I had a company do that to me. Actually it worked out well. I put in my two week notice, the next morning they called me in to HR. I didn't realize they were going to walk me out the door. They handed me a check for the two weeks, and let me clear my desk. In that case I did allow an exit interview, since they were still honoring my pay.But if they do not let you finish and do not honor the pay, then screw them. You owe them no loyalty! Walk out the door and tell them to shove their exit interview.Seriously. If at anytime you are NOT comfortable with an exit interview just decline. They CANNOT force you to answer questions. Just walk out.

When I was a fresh graduate, I interviewed for one of the largest oilfield service providers (let’s keep it anonymous).I passed a couple of rounds until I reached the ‘group interview’. We were about 10 or 12 in the room. 2 girls and the rest were all guys, which was not uncommon in the oil and gas industry.This was a tough interview since it involved a number of things (all done in a big meeting room in front of each other):Each one of us presenting briefly about ourselves and discussing our weaknessesAnswering questions about ourselvesAnswering situational and hypothetical questions that involved not only ourselves, but other candidatesIt was all ok until one male (this will be important) candidate was asked the following question:“What would you do if you’re in the middle of a work day in the field, in the middle of the desert, hours away from any office or establishment, no bathrooms nearby, and your female coworker (interviewer points at the other female candidate in the room) wants to go to the bathroom?”We all sat their befuddled and could see the male candidate sweating and stammering unable to answer. The interviewer looked at everyone else to answer but no one had any idea. We tried to answer but it was a difficult situation.After some awkward silence, the interviewer said that a few years ago management had noticed that they had received a significant number of resignations (over a few months period) all from females and coincidently they all had worked in the same site.After endless exit interviews, finally one female spoke up and said that she was leaving because of the long work hours and absence of a bathroom in the site, which had affected her health. The interviewer said that after her exit they installed bathrooms in all their sites and made sure the site conditions were good for all the workers there.This is why companies do exit interviews, to see causes of employee dissatisfaction, improve their systems, and retain employees.

I decided to shift my base to Dubai for personal and professional reasons. However even before going to Dubai I was warned by many people about the slow down and people losing jobs. Somehow I had this gut feeling, that no matter what someone says I want to go. And so I did. I started going for walk-ins, calling companies and mailing my resume. None of the interviewers had yet asked me the dreaded quotation.. Finally that moment of truth arrived when the interviewer sitting across the table asked me," Why are you here in slow down when people are losing their jobs."I had thought of this question but not about the answer. I took a deep breath in and told myself this is make it or break it point.. And surprisingly I had an answer, that too a logical one. When the interviewer asked me that question I answered in my mind "Why did u call me for an interview if it's slow down time" :p That's when I got the answer and I said," I am aware that people are losing jobs and there are fewer vacancies but the fact that there are vacancies means companies are functioning it's just that the focus is on hiring quality people, so I am not worried..."*No prizes for guessing. However I would like to dish out some news won't say it's bad news because I know il get another opportunity.So I was in Dubai on a 3 months visit visa, attended almost 2 interviews a day and got a few offers. I decided to join this company hence I exit to india and waited 2 months for my work visa to come. Somehow the Ministry of Labour decides not to pass that particular company's visa quota. And guess what by then i had rejected all other offers #smart me Ehh!!!!Now I am going back on 30th June for a month to hunt for another one! Wish me luck.. :)This time I plan to make vlogs on how to get a job in Dubai in 30 days!!!
