This requires first to have both chambers of congress be in controlled by 2/3rds politicians who not only support gun control, but support an outright gun ban. Almost no politician publicly supports it, but some will in private. You then need to repeat the process with 3/4ths of state legislatures, which means only 12 states can vote against it. There are currently 13 states who don’t require permits to carry a gun, so you need at least one of those to do an about face, along with the remaining 38 states voting for it, with almost none supporting a total ban.Step Two: Repeat the exact same thing for the fourth amendment. In even in the most anti-gun state in the country, a single politician calling for a repeal of the fourth amendment will lose their career in a heartbeat.Step Three: Mobilize every federal officer you have. Wait for the large portion to resign in protest, especially at the thought of breaking the fourth amendment. You’ll need every one you can get, because you can’t mobilize troops to do it unless you want to go through another legislative storm like steps one and two, and forty states also have the right to bear arms in their own constitution, which all state and local officers swore to uphold. In many cases, especially the more conservative states, the police may actually actively work to prevent the federal agents from coming in, either to protect the right to bear arms or the right to prevent a search and seizure without probable cause.Step Four: After all that, we’re finally at the hard part. Have the fraction of federal agents who are willing to go through all this go to every household in the country, all 125 million, and search the entire residence for guns. They also need to dig up all the yards looking for buried guns, as well as pretty much the entire wilderness. Plus they need to constantly recheck homes, to make sure everyone doesn’t just store their guns in the homes that have already been check. They should also do their best to avoid being shot this whole time.TL;DR: you’d need to get congress and 38 states to agree to ban all guns and make it legal for police to search peoples homes for no reason, then you need to mobilize every FBI/ATF/DHS agent who doesn’t resign, and they’d have to search every house in the country multiple times, forever.
