As a fellow cat lover, I just wanted to provide a few more pointers that may be helpful for you:Here is the IRS guidance on the language for the nonprofit charter (articles of incorporation/certificate of incorporation): Suggested Language for Corporations and AssociationsWhile it is no where written, you want to aim for at least 3 directors that are not related by blood, marriage, adoption or business. Related directors can greatly lessen the chance of IRS approval, especially if a majority of the board is related.If you have a social security number, you can apply for an EIN online here: EIN Individual Request - Online Application. It is free and should take under 5 minutes.Many states will require you to hold the initial organizational meeting after the corporation is formed, and not before, in order for corporate action to be properly authorized. Check state requirements. There is also often the option of taking corporate action by written consent in lieu of meeting, which might be more convenient for everyone involved.There is also a Form 1023-EZ which is an expedited short form 501(c)(3) application. You should check the worksheet in the 1023-EZ instructions to see if your nonprofit will qualify. Turnaround time is much quicker with the EZ application.The IRS strongly recommends having a conflict of interest policy. The state you form the nonprofit corporation in may also require a conflict of interest policy to be in place (New York is one of them). There is a sample conflict of interest policy in Appendix A of the Form 1023 instructions that may be helpful for you to reference.If your nonprofit will be getting donations from the general public (or government assistance), you may want to make sure to select “public charity” in the Form 1023/1023-EZ. If you don't choose “public charity,” the nonprofit will be classified as a “private foundation,” which is much more highly regulated. Of course, you should take the time to decide what classification will be better for your needs.After you hopefully receive a positive IRS determination letter, make sure you check if your state requires your nonprofit to register as a charity. If so, you'll need to do that.Getting the 501(c)(3) acknowledgement from the IRS exempts the nonprofit from Federal taxes, but not state sales or franchise taxes. Many states will require you to separately request sales tax and corporate franchise tax exemptions. Check with the state tax authority to see what is available.Hope this helps!

Do you know that NodeJS is written in C++? We work with Nodejs through Javascript but NodeJS itself is written in C++. How does that even relate to our choice of web programming languages?Sheer power. C++ provides deep access to Operating System (OS) features such as I/O. That means sheer power through Javascript.From C++ to Javascript. That power comes from the fact that NodeJS is built on the foundation of the Google Chrome browser technology namely V8 (also written in C++). V8 is the magic box that turns your Javascript code into usable features on a web browser.NodeJS takes that one step further. It harnesses features already offered on the V8 engine and then add on some of its own through C++ and plain vanilla Javascript. Now that we have a full featured web engine with enhanced access to the OS and programmable through Javascript, what can we do with it? Run it as a server of course!Backend what? Previously Javascript may have been stereotyped as a language for making client-facing features such as interactive menus and animated buttons. In addition, some would not have considered Javascript as a true programming language because of its quirkiness and deviations from other established programming languages such as Java (they may sound alike but they are not).NodeJS changed that. NodeJS made Javascript usable as a server-side language. In other words, we can now use Javascript to do things that were previously done only through PHP, Python, and other backend languages. How neat is that to use the same programming language for both frontend and backend work? Very.While that does not take away Javascript’s quirkiness, it does provide us with powerful access to features from V8, C++, and NodeJS’s very own customised Javascript core. Developers can further exploit this connection to do amazing things that were previously clunky to implement through other languages. One example is concurrency.One too many instances. In a conventional application, when users (frontend clients) request for resources (data) from a server (backend), the server goes about getting that resource. That takes time though.Meanwhile, if we have another request, the server may have to wait for the prior requests to be completed before processing a new one. Alternatively, the server may have to spawn a process so as to not delay the new request. Either way, more resources are consumed.The problem can be likened to an overbooked restaurant situation. Spawning new processes to serve additional requests is akin to hiring additional waiters and chefs to fulfil additional orders.NodeJS to the rescue. Rather than adding more waiters and chefs (i.e. servers) to an already overbooked restaurant, how about changing the way we fulfil orders? We could use NodeJS to achieve that through a technique called promises/observables. Not stopping at current requests yet to be served (pending for whatever reasons), NodeJS could continue to process new requests.We can liken this to using the same waiter to take new orders while waiting for the chef to prepare unfulfilled ones. In tandem, the chef does not have to wait for one order to be completed (e.g. boiling soup) before starting work on newer ones (e.g. baking pizza). It also helped that nodeJS itself is blazingly fast.Is NodeJS so performant that it can eclipse PHP and other web programming languages? NodeJS is not a programming language. NodeJS is a server-side application, written in C++, that made it possible to code backend applications in Javascript. As such, comparison between NodeJS and PHP would not be meaningful. The real question is whether we could do similar things with other programming languages.While Concurrency / Async pattern programming is one area that NodeJS does particularly well, it does not mean we cannot do the same with other languages. PHP and other languages now offer similar capabilities one way or another.Relevance of a programming language is not dependent only on sheer features and performance. It is also dependent on adherence to best practices, extensibility and community support. PHP has that advantage. The latest iterations are also getting faster and better.Great support community. Like any good programming languages, the PHP community is one of the most vibrant. You are just as likely to find ready answers on Stack Overflow as there are people ready to help. It is a great introduction to web programming especially if you are not from a C / Java background. You will also find many established PHP stacks and tools that may already have solved your problem. You can learn techniques such as:Loops, Operators, and ConditionalsInheritance and Objected Oriented ProgrammingDatabase and Schema designMVC frameworks and programming patterns (e.g. Laravel, Symfony, and Zend)Different yet similar. With different ways of solving the same problem, the deeper question is really on choosing the right language that gives you a better learning experience. If you want to pick up a general-purpose language that has a ready codebase, PHP and Python are excellent candidates. If you need unbridled performance, or already know C/Java and plan to dive deeper into web development, then Javascript is a new programming paradigm that you should really explore.Different but just as good. Both PHP and Javascript are cornerstones to many modern websites, CMS engines, and web applications. From a big picture perspective, we are really looking at the progress of web development as a whole. Here are a few reasons why you should take up javascript:React-centric design pattern. Every web component is a tiny stand-alone feature that has the ability to interact with other features. This make for a better developer experience as we no longer need “tall” applications that are harder to test and maintain. We now have the option to build smaller yet robust features that can be easily add or discarded without breaking the code.The other great thing about the web component pattern is that it makes the browser DOM manipulation at runtime so simple. What it means is that apps can now perform and behave more like an natively installed app rather than stale webpages that needed constant reloading.Alongside the rise of Nodejs, the community has created tons of solutions that make the developer experience such a joy. Currently, NPM and Webpack are two popular choices to find and assemble code in a productive way. We also have frameworks, with varying degrees of opinionated approaches, to jumpstart your application. React, Angular, and Vue are popular choices.Typescript. A syntactic version of Javascript that supports past and future versions of Javascript to write better code. C and Java developers should feel right at home with Typescript.Functional Programming. Like any conventional programming languages, we pass parameters imperatively into PHP functions and methods. Javascript on the other hand let us pass anything, including functions itself, into other functions. That give us access to an entire new category of programming pattern called functional programming. That is awesome.GraphQL. Simplifies data querying by providing us with the ability to script queries through the shape of the data.At its core, NodeJS is all about Javascript. Javascript has evolved pass its humble beginnings since 1995 and it is not showing any signs of slowing down. While the language do come with its own brand of quirkiness, understanding it intimately should help us see through its oddities as strengths.Mighty as it is, NodeJS is not a programming language. It is a Javascript programmable application. If you need to work with NodeJS, you will need to know Javascript. That is inevitable. Understanding that should help you make a better assessment.Meanwhile, adoption of Javascript should not preclude you from learning PHP. The fact that PHP is so easy to pick up does not mean that it is any less a powerful language.While choice is a good thing, it can also get a little confusing. Understanding the fundamental ideas behind each programming languages and frameworks should help us make better choices. I encourage you to start with any but look forward to learning more.

Again, 15 is not old! I put down my 34 yo horse in May! It depends on where you live. There is a rescue called Midwest Horse Welfare Foundation in Pittsville, WI. My next horse will probably outlive me and if that happens, this is where he will go. This rescue has been in business since 2001. They take the very best care of their charges; veterinary care, training, etc. The organization is completely volunteer - no paid employees! They refuse 50% of their adopters due to unsuitability for the horse in question. Things like the horse may be green and the applicate inexperienced. An adopter does not actually own the animal for 5 years and must submit a veterinary report every year. If the adopter fails to care for the animal or no longer wants it, the animal can be returned to the rescue. A visit is made to the stable or farm where the animal will live prior to the final adoption. This makes a lot of potential adopters mad but it is certainly the best thing for the animal. This gives the rescue a full 5 years to access the level of care and commitment that the adopter has toward the horse. Very old animals with health problems just stay at the farm until they die. No, you will not receive any compensation for your horse but you may be able to use his value as a tax write-off!
