PDF Editor FAQ

Did whites in South Africa really buy the land when they first got there or did they take it?

One of the biggest lies is that white people stole black or bantu peoples land. This is not true as blacks still occupy most if not all the land they originally owned in South Africa. The Xhosa lived and still live in the Transkei and Ciskei. The Zulu's still live in Zululand and the Tswana's in Bophuthatswana and the Venda's in Venda. The only people who can complain that their land was stolen is the original inhabitants of Southern Africa , the Khoikhoi and San people. Blacks and whites who were agriculturists arrived in Southern Africa thousands of years after the Khoikhoi(pastoralists) and San(hunter gatherers)and displaced them in all areas of South Africa. The San .The Apartheid goverment wanted every group to rule themselves in their own area To this end it spent billions building free schools , houses, hospitals and Universities in black areas and townships. People were in fact moved to achieve this goal of self rule for every group in their own area . These removals were never done without offering alternative land and houses in return and was also addressed during the land restitution process from 1996 to 2011 when more than 76000 land claims were finalised and people either recieved land or money as compensation for land taken or removed from during the Apartheid years. What is not known is that Apartheid South Africa spent billions acquiring land for black people from whites in the Apartheid years . This was done to make the black areas larger and economically viable and to prepare them for independence. It was also done to establish the new black townships near the white cities and towns.Black South Africans ended up with more land during Apartheid than they had before Apartheid started.Ultimately Apartheid failed because black people flocked to Apartheid cities and towns in their millions from all over Africa for jobs and a better life . A life better than anywhere else in Africa. They soon out numbered whites in what was previously considered white areas .The Apartheid government realised that self rule by whites in their own area was no longer viable. So when Communism fell in 1989 they siezed the opportunity to release Mandela in 1990 and to start negotiations with the ANC. In a 1992 referendum 68 percent of white people voted in favor of negotiations with the ANC. In 1994 white South Africans handed black people control of the richest and most advanced country in Africa. In South Africa land has to be bought and registered in the deeds office . Land has been bought and sold for nearly 350 years . Most land in South Africa has been bought and sold many times over . The present owners have no ties to the original owners. Most of the land is also being paid off to the banks by the present owners.Unless you have cash you have to loan the money and pay back the bank. In addition owners also have to pay high rates and taxes to the municipalities . These high rates and taxes have made owning land exspensive.Land as a rule was never just taken from one owner and just given to another. The Dutch of the Dutch East India Company were not colonisers who could rely on a army . They were businessmen and farmers and mostly obtained land through purchase agreements. Land was plentiful and cattle rather than land was the cause of early conflicts. In ancient times black land was held by the Chief on behalf of the tribe .The Chief controlled the land use while the tribe lived on that particular piece of land . When the tribed moved for new grazing or for safety the Chief would control the land usage on the new land .The Chief could give and take land away as he saw fit. Black land ownership was tribal , transient and there was no registered black land owners in ancient times. It is also not true that whites stole 80 percent of the land in South Africa . Eighty percent of South Africa is arid or semi desert and there were no permanent human settlements in the 1600's to early 1700's . The arid land made farming and permanent settlement of land difficult . Permanent settlement only became possible when Europeans started arriving with the ability to extract ground water .Karoo WindpumpSome land was also unoccupied after the residents fled or were annilated during tribal wars. During the Mfecane - Wikipedia some 2 million people were murdered and chased out of the Transvaal and Freestate by the Zulu's of King Shaka . The Zulu impi’s plundered and murdered as far as they went and left the land desolate and void of people. The white Voortrekkers of Dutch descent started farming on this vacant land .These areas later became the Boer Republics of the Orange Free State and the Transvaal. So to repeat the above , contrary to ANC divide and rule election propaganda, black or bantu people were never evicted en masse from their lands by white people .The ANC goverment is now again started accusing whites of stealing the land and beating the Expropriation of property without compensation drum . To be clear this can already be done in terms of section 25 of the Constitution. A Constitutional change is actually not required. The ANC and EFF's renewed hype around Expropriation of land without compensation has already caused massive economic damage. Investors refuse to invest into property that can be taken from them at anytime and without compensation . Without new investment the economy has become stagnant and we have seen unemployment grow from 22,4 percent in 2008 to 29,1 percent in 2019..The ANC comrades have no intention of giving real land ownership with title deeds to the black emerging farmers . Every new black farmer will tell u that he recieved the farm on some kind of a lease or group scheme from government and without ownership he/she is unable to raise capital to farm with .The ANC government owns 25 percent of all the land in the country which it could already have redistributed if it really wanted to.The ANC government is also sitting on 973000 hectares of land which it acquired during the land redistribution process from 1996 to 2011 which it has simply neglected to transfer .The ANC has had 26 years to effect land reform .The land reform program was however mismanaged and it failed because of a lack of political will and because of the incompetence and corruption of ANC officials .The ANC is a seriously corrupt organization that has stolen 1, 5 trillion rand, that is a 100 billion US dollars without any consequences. The ANC and its officials have already been caught stealing land from black emerging farmers like Ivan Cloete and many others. Any land distribution process should be under the direct supervision of the courts and should end in the recipient recieving title deeds and ownership. Leases that can be changed ,manipulated and cancelled at any time is not a suitable vehicle for farming that requires large capital investments over many years to be successful.Bringing it up now is a pre- election ploy to get the voters to forget the VBS Bank heist and State Capture and the theft of Covid-19 funds and food parcels and for voters to still support the ANC in the 2021 municipal elections.Khoekhoe - WikipediaAfrican pastoralist indigenous group Nomadic Khoikhoi dismantling their huts, aquatint by Samuel Daniell (1805). Khoekhoen [a] (or Khoikhoi in the former orthography; formerly also Hottentots [2] ) are the traditionally nomadic pastoralist indigenous population of southwestern Africa. They are often grouped with the hunter-gatherer San (literally "Foragers") peoples. [3] The designation "Khoekhoe" is actually a kare or praise address, not an ethnic endonym, but it has been used in the literature as an ethnic term for Khoe -speaking peoples of Southern Africa, particularly pastoralist groups, such as the !Ora, !Gona, Nama, Xiri and ǂNūkhoe nations. While it is clear that the presence of Khoekhoen in Southern Africa predates the Bantu expansion , according to a scientific theory based mainly on linguistic evidence, it is not clear when the Khoekhoen began inhabiting the areas where the first contact with Europeans occurred (possibly in the Late Stone Age ). [3] At that time, in the 17th century, the Khoekhoen maintained large herds of Nguni cattle in the Cape region . Their nomadic pastoralism was mostly given up in the 19th to 20th century. [4] Their Khoekhoe language is related to certain dialects spoken by foraging San peoples of the Kalahari , such as the Khwe and Tshwa , forming the Khoe language family. The main Khoekhoe subdivisions today are the Nama people of Namibia, Botswana and South Africa (with numerous clans), the ǂNūkhoeǃhaos of Namibia, the !Orana clans of South Africa (such as ǀHõakhoena or AmaNgqosini), the Xirikua or Griekwa nation of South Africa, and the AmaGqunukhwebe or !Gona clans which fall under the Xhosa-speaking polities. [ citation needed ] The Xirikua clans (Griqua) developed their own ethnic identity in the 19th century and settled in Griqualand . They are related to the same kinds of clan formations as the Rehoboth Basters , who could also be considered a "Khoekhoe" people. History [ edit ] Early history [ edit ] The broad ethnic designation of "Khoekhoen", meaning the peoples originally part of a pastoral culture and language group to be found across Southern Africa, is thought to refer to a population originating in the northern area of modern Botswana . This culture steadily spread southward, eventually reaching the Cape approximately 2,000 years ago. "Khoekhoe" groups include ǀAwakhoen to the west, and ǀKx'abakhoena of South and mid-South Africa, and the Eastern Cape. Both of these terms mean "Red People", and are equivalent to the IsiXhosa term "amaqaba". Husbandry of sheep, goats and cattle grazing in fertile valleys across the region provided a stable, balanced diet, and allowed these lifestyles to spread, with larger groups forming in a region previously occupied by the subsistence foragers . Ntu-speaking agriculturalist culture is thought to have entered the region in the 3rd century AD, pushing pastoralists into the Western areas.
