The greatest gladiator match in the history of the world - Son of Skull Island Vs King of Monsters.Some movies aren’t looking for anything logical. They aren’t meant to be appraised, analysed or reasoned with. Some movies just want to bring a smile to your face.This is one of those movies. I was as giddy as a schoolboy throughout the length of this trailer. I need this movie. The world needs this movie.It’s probably not going to be great; I doubt it will be particularly good either. The human element in these movies has been handled with frankly pathetic results.It’s unbelievably trite stuff (particularly in the Godzilla movies). And it drags these movies down, and it probably will happen here as well.But in all honesty, I couldn’t care less, because here’s a movie called Godzilla Vs Kong.Everything else, and I truly do mean everything, is nothing but a prop, a side-show to keep us occupied till the main event begins.I have read all manner of theories floating around about the actual mechanics of the fight. Again, it’s superfluous.Whatever Martha-ex-Machina shenanigan the movie pulls to resolve this greatest of duels, it will have been worth it just to see these titans duke it out on screen.One hopes the movie is semi-coherent and the human element is handled with something approaching deft.My hopes for the latter are slightly raised than usual since Godzilla Vs Kong is being helmed by Adam Wingard of The Guest fame.And yet, truth be told, I’m perfectly comfortable even if this turns out to be a steaming pile of trash.It’s called Godzilla Vs Kong, however terrible it is, I’m going to enjoy the hell out of the titular battle. And if the padding turns out to be good, well that’s a mighty fine bonus.This is peak popcorn fodder. It’s that kind of movie. It just wants you to have fun. And I very likely will.Here we go. Give it a 100 never nothing less.

I had a one year contract with a movie trailer company that was about two weeks away from being done. A job came in. It happened to be something right up my alley, fantasy vfx, mathematical, physical dynamics, etc. so I started in on it. The vice president I answered to told me I could finish as a freelancer if it went beyond the contract period.The company owner overruled him so at the end of the contract I was out and the job was unfinished. It took me about a week to pick up a very demanding freelance job so I dove in to that.The trailer company went to an animation production company I knew well and they started from scratch. At that time the production community in LA was small, and everyone knew each other so news got around. After two weeks of trying they had nothing to show and time was wasting.A designer who was still at the old company (and who kept me appraised of the situation) showed the contractors and the bosses my work and said this is what we need. The contractors said this work was better than what they had done, and if that is what you want, why aren’t you using him to do it? They were given some excuse, and the bosses were embarrassed in front of their own employees.That led to the weirdest telephone call of my career. I was already working about 80 hours a week on this crazy new job when the vice president called me and asked if I would come back. I said no, I’m on another job and can’t get away. He insisted I reconsider, and I told him the contract was up, they didn’t want to continue so I moved on to the next job. Then he said the owner asked personally for me to come back, as if that would persuade me. I answered he was the one that wanted me to go, and I accepted his decision and made my move to the next job. No hard feelings, just business. Could I at least come back for a meeting? NO!This was a trailer house that had been coasting on the past work of the boss for many years and though he was very respected in the trailer and title business, I was primarily a vfx guy and didn’t care if I ever did another title or trailer.Soon the other designers who were sick of doing all the work for none of the credit quit and started their own very successful business and I continued, unscathed, to do vfx work in LA.

Based on my appraisal of every major MCU character across film, Netflix and SHIELD, here’s where the Black Order ranks.They’re essentially on the level of Thor and Hulk, since they have magic space weapons or are similarly powerful. Ebony Maw’s ability is unclear but the trailer suggests he may be using sorcery to challenge Doctor Strange.While Ultron’s threat level as a whole was fairly high, his physical power was only on par with the average Kree, Dark Elf, or Asgardian. I think each of the Black Order members could effectively tear Ultron apart. They are the greatest threat the actual Avengers have seen. An experienced, coordinated, evil, galactic military strike force super team. And that’s without Infinity Stones in the equation.Thor, Doctor Strange, and the Guardians have faced equal and greater threats than the Black Order’s individual members, but remember that they are not technically Avengers.
