Will we still have our pensions index linked as in the uk. Will we still receive the Spanish National Health free at the point of service(as in the uk but far better service). If we have to return, what will you do with us. Your nhs cannot cope now and when your eec staff leave as they are doing now. It will get worse. I will not see Boris’s 50 new hospitals built. Nor will he unless he brings in the Chinese. Oh no he does not want low paid foreigners doing British jobs(that no British workers want).You ask what has changed for me. The answer is my life and life expectancy thank you.

Something hilarious happened to me during my first week after orientation at Google.I was at my team’s first all-hands weekly meeting, and I was introducing myself to all of my new teammates. Naturally, my manager asked me to stand up, introduce myself, and give a little background about my professional history.I went chronologically backwards, starting with talking about my 5+ years at Box, 3+ years at a startup in San Francisco, and ending with my undergraduate experience as an EE/CS major at UC Berkeley.The moment I mentioned “UC Berkeley”, one of the Staff engineers immediately proclaimed: “oh wow, that’s a good school!”.For those of you who don’t understand why this is hilarious to me, let me explain:1). Getting to the level of “Staff Engineer” at Google is notoriously difficult (arguably, the title means less and is easier to achieve at many other tech companies due to a phenomena called “title inflation”). Most engineers at Google will never reach the Staff-level.2). Graduating from UC Berkeley EECS is, by comparison, a cake walk.The purpose of this anecdote is to express that there are many folks at Google who don’t seem to have the same sense of brand-name weight for various institutions as, say, I do.

Only students, alumni, faculty, and staff have access to UC Berkeley computer accounts. The two most popular types of UNIX accounts are managed by the student-run Open Computing Facility and the instructional EECS network run by the Electronics Support Group. All students and student groups can get OCF accounts for SSH access to ocf.berkeley.edu and the accounts remain active after graduation. EECS accounts (available only to EECS/CS majors and minors) provide access to several *.{eecs,cs}.berkeley.edu machines and remain active until a few months after graduation.There are also some research machines and clusters available to those with EECS research accounts, managed by Instructional and Research Information Systems. The university-wide Information Services and Technology group provides hosting, email, and other IT services to departments outside of EECS but at a price. There is some rule that berkeley.edu subdomains have to point to campus machines so IST's hosting is sometimes the only choice.There are no accounts available to the general public but you probably wouldn't want one except for lightweight web hosting. From what I remember, even the better machines such as the Mac Pros had ulimits set so as a student the best way to get access to high-end computing resources was to ask Amazon.com (product) for an AWS/EC2 grant.
