Can I talk to my therapist about my illicit drug use?

Question: Can I talk to my therapist about my illicit drug use?Answer: Absolutely, and you should. The only time a therapist is obligated to tell parents is if you are under the age of a minor as defined by your state or if you are no longer a minor and one of the following is true: (please note ages vary based on each state’s definition of a minor and each state’s laws regarding confidentiality differ so this is specific to Texas):You are threatening to harm yourself; You are threatening to harm someone else; You’ve put the welfare of a child in danger; You've put the welfare of an elderly or disabled person in danger; You are a danger to the public.Otherwise, s/he would be in violation of the sworn oath she took and could have her license revoked.I told my therapist some outrageous things, but as long as I wasn’t violating one of the above criteria, she was obligated to maintain confidentiality. In certain circumstances, a patient might give their therapist a medical release that would release the therapist of maintaining confidentiality. For example, I gave my therapist a medical release stating that if I were to disappear, I give her permission to discuss my therapy sessions with authorities and my parents. This was close to the time I escaped a domestic violence situation, and he attempted to kidnap me. If I disappeared, I wanted authorities to know it wasn’t of my own doing.I don’t wear this as a badge, but as an example of why it benefits you to be honest with a therapist in any situation including illicit drug use. It gave me great comfort and a sense of safety having a therapist as an ally with the added bonus of the oathe she took and the law protecting my right to privacy. My circumstance was not unique by any means and thousands of people have those same conversations.

A close friend (45 y/o) died suddenly yesterday at home. The autopsy couldn't find anything wrong with him. How is this possible?

As a funeral director, i usually can’t get final results from the medical examiner for weeks. I have waited months. They released the body, but they were nowhere near done with their investigations. They had taken numerous samples for microscopic analysis, lab work to be done, things to be cultured. It takes time. But they often do not want to delay the funeral, so they will release the body with the cause of death as “pending” (in Texas, there is a box for “undetermined” - it happens). Later, after all the results are back, the certificate will be amended. That could be what happened. Or, since this is SO soon, it could be a privately arranged autopsy, requested by the family, or perhaps by the hospital with the family’s consent. Should that be true, the scope of the autopsy might be narrow. A medical examiner will be looking for absolutely anything, whereas a private pathologist will be looking for what he was asked to look for.But either way, the timeline is very, very short. I would expect the wheel is still in spin.

Who is the most underrated and most interesting criminal?

I can't say he is the MOST interesting, but he was rather entertaining.Steven J RussellHe is an American con artist that has escaped from prison four times. To land himself there in the first place he posed as a millionaire to legitimize a seventy five thousand dollar loan he was attempting to take out and the bank officials got suspicious. They called the authorities, and Russell feigned a heart attack. He was taken to the hospital under watch, so he called the hospital on his cell phone posing as an FBI agent and told them he could be let go. They complied, and he walked out.At some point he is fired from his job in executive food service for the simple fact that he was homosexual. He fakes a slip and fall, gets caught and arrested for fraud, netting him a six-month sentence. This brings us to escape number one. In this escape he had squirreled away a spare set of civilian clothing and a walkie-talkie. Wearing these he convinced the guards he was an undercover police officer and walked out.He escaped after only four weeks in prison and his motive was to care for his fatally ill boyfriend. They went on the run to Mexico for a period of a couple of years until his boyfriend's health was too far gone. They returned and Russell was re-arrested. After only being back for three weeks, his boyfriend died. Now to the second escape. After being remanded again to prison he met a man named Phillip Morris. Falling hard he wanted to be able to provide for him all the luxuries that he otherwise would be unable. After they were both released Russell falsified his resume to land a job as the CFO of North American Medical Management. He embezzled eight hundred thousand dollars in his role with that company in four short months. He and Morris were rearrested for the crime.Determined to be a flight risk his bail was set at nearly a million dollars. This was far outside his capability to pay, which was sort of the point. However, he was not satisfied to let it stand. He phoned the county clerk and posed as a judge. He successfully lowered his own bail to forty five thousand dollars, paid it and left.He was free only three days, but hey, it worked. Next, in preparation for the third escape he begins to acquire and hide away green highlighters as well as extra prison clothes. He used the green highlighters to dye the clothing to match doctors scrubs. He did this in the toilet of his own cell. Clearly the prison hadn't learned to keep a better eye on him. Donning these scrubs Russell walked out of the prison, once again, right past the guards. He met up with Morris who had already been released and they fled to Mississippi. He was rearrested ten days later. The last escape and his final hurrah... at least for now anyway. Now he has received a cumulative sentence of forty five years in Texas and this does not look something he wants to serve. He begins to lose weight on purpose and used laxatives to simulate the symptoms of AIDS. He then uses a prison typewriter to falsify his own medical records to show that he indeed has AIDS and is in the final stages. The prison agrees to release him on a special needs parole to hospice care for his final months. He goes even further however. He then calls the hospice in the guise of a doctor offering access to experimental AIDS treatment for volunteers. He of course signs right up and is released from hospice care to participate in non existent procedures and later sends certificates of his own death to the prison. In prison again he is under observation twenty three hours a day and is serving a cumulative one hundred and forty four year sentence. Ninety nine years for the escapes, and another forty five years for the subsequent scams. His release date is set for July 12, 2140.While he may not be the most interesting, he may not be the best, he is certainly under appreciated and his escapes were nothing short of brilliant. Staying under the radar was not his forte when he managed to get out, but getting out he seemed to do with relative ease.
