Donald Trump is no authority on academic achievement. He was asked to leave Fordham after two academically mediocre years. A generous donation from father Fred landed him a spot as Penn undergraduate transfer.His two years at Penn were equally undistinguished as witnessed by professors, classmates, and the official class record.Trump continues the lie that he has an MBA from the prestigious Penn Wharton Business School. He does not.Now… Barack Obama Graduated from Columbia… Graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard Law School… Was Editor of The Harvard Law Review… Was Professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Chicago.Remind me again… Which academic credentials and affirmative action are you questioning?Finally… Name another POTUS who has been asked to release his college transcript. Let’s first get Trump to release all of his tax returns as Obama has. I am sure Obama would have no problem matching his academic transcript with Trump.

The “real story” is that because of privacy law, no college transcripts can be released to a third party without the written consent of the student/graduate. This applies whether the student is president of the United States or Johnny Nobody.Donald Trump would dearly love for all of Obama’s college records, not merely his grades, to be made public because, racist that he is, he probably thinks the records contain evidence that Obama was admitted to Ivy League schools only through affirmative action. That’s not necessarily so, and anyway, coming from the father of two children who attended his own alma mater (Penn) and thus may have been admitted as legacies instead of on merit, that’s especially rich in chutzpah.Having been forced to release his birth certificate because Trump stirred the birther pot so vigorously, Obama is simply refusing to let Trump yank his strings again and has chosen not to authorize Occidental College, Columbia University, and Harvard Law School to release his transcripts.What is known about Obama’s grades is that he was the first black editor of the Harvard Law Review, a position which is filled blindly, meaning the selection committee can see an application but not the applicant’s name to it. Therefore, Obama’s appointment had nothing to do with affirmative action. And he graduated from the law school magna cum laude.Trump didn’t graduate from Penn with any honors, with the possible exception of Most Likely to Contract an STD.

I wouldn’t think anything.The reason I wouldn’t think anything is that I don’t yet know anything of value. Of critical importance, I don’t know the age of the child. I've also, over the years, heard reports like this, then seen the child.Very often these reports are distorted, wildly inaccurate, highly biased, and made by a person without first-hand knowledge. And typically there’s an agenda other than the child’s welfare. They usually contain a grain of truth, worth considering and exploring, but I’d want to see reports from neutral, professional sources before starting to think about the case.Of course, if asked, I’d see the child and begin an evaluation. With the consent of the person with legal custody (decision-making authority for the child), I would get releases for health records, school records, and police records, and records for any previous evaluations or mental health interventions.After doing all of that, I’d consider everything, and watch closely for signs of convergent validity and reliability of reports, together with my in-person evaluation of the child, possibly in a family context, and formulate recommendations, if any.
