School Monitoring: Fill & Download for Free

Everywhere I’ve taught, the students have had 1:1 tech: either a school-issued iPad, Macbook, or Chromebook. Each school monitors these things differently.At one school, monitoring was done via student login to Google Chrome. That is, the students were issued a school email address, and they had to use it to log into their machine, and while they were logged in with that email address, we could remotely monitor that machine.The idea is that a teacher can be at their desk and see what the students are doing on their laptops without having to walk behind the student.And so it was that one day I assigned something online to my students, and sat at my desk to grade papers while they worked on it. About 10 minutes into it, I decided to spot-check to see that the students were all on task. I told the monitoring program to do a screen grab of all of the students’ laptops.Twenty five screenshots popped onto my screen: 24 of the assignment the students were supposed to be working on, and 1 screenshot of hardcore porn.According to the monitoring program, one of the girls sitting about 5 feet away from me was watching hardcore porn at that moment.So I got up and walked behind her. She was doing her assignment like everyone else. Definitely not watching porn.I went back to my desk and did another mass screen grab. Same results.The monitoring software also tells us what websites the students have open. I checked hers, and it showed 8 open websites, including her assignment, the porn, Amazon, and a few others.It took me a few seconds to realize what was happening.“Emma*,” I asked… “Do you ever check your school email on your home computer?”She said she did.She’d logged onto her school email on her home computer and didn’t log off, so the monitoring software was also still logged into her home computer. And someone at her house was watching some hardcore porn in the middle of the day.They were watching it on Chrome, that’s how the monitoring software picked it up. Had they logged out of Emma’s profile, or used a different browser, the software wouldn’t be able to track it.I wrote a very tactful email to the parents explaining the situation. I emailed both parents to the email addresses we had on file for them. I did not tell the student.The mother emailed me back within a few minutes, saying she was mortified and apologized and said she would “tell whomever is at home to log out of Emma’s email.”The father emailed me back within a few minutes too, saying he was at work and he would “tell whomever was at home to knock it off.”The thing is, Emma was an only child. I know only three people lived in her house: the parents and her. So it was one or both of the parents that were doing that in the middle of the day.None of my business, really. Whatever floats their boat.Before that day, Emma’s mom would sometimes chat with me in the parking lot after school. A lot of parents did that while they picked up their children… it was no big deal.After that day, she never left her car when picking up Emma. She made it a point not to make eye contact with me from inside the car.*Not her real name.

It was probably our physics class and our teacher was absent .A moment of joy for our entire class .Some started gossiping , some were sitting on the tables , some on the teacher's desk . One guy on the teacher's chair ( this was a different kind of pheel) . Some who didn't want to sit at all were out of the class roaming . ButThen suddenly our class monitor comes and tellsThis period will be substituted by this really strict P.T teacher , and he is on the way to our class so all of you take your respective seats as soon as possibleSo I went and sat with this freinds of mine and this teacher comes and orders all of us not to speak a word , litteraly not even a single word .Now , I was sitting with this freinds of mine and I clearly don't remember what it was but I really had to discuss something important something interesting with him , so we couldn't let go of this free period following some stupid instructions .So me and this freind of mine were so engrossed that we didn't even notice that sir was looking at us for quite some time . Oh ! Did I mention that freind of mine was a boySir: you boy sitting on that 2nd last bench stand up .Him: yes sirSir:for how long have you been studying in this schoolHim: sir , for almost an yearSir: what was your last schoolHim: Donbosco school(For those who don't know Donbosco school of my city is a boy's school .)Sir: oh ! That is why you can't stop talking to a girl . Students like you are a burden on this school . Tell me in this one year what did you do for our schoolHim: sir, this is my badge I am the prefect ( something like school monitor) . I took part in the school unison . I am in the school band team . I also went to Goa and Mumbai for representing our school in IIMUN .In low voice .. the biggest achievement ( the hottest girl from Commerce is my girlfriend .The entire class started cheering for him 😂,. I swear Sir 's face was worth seeing 😂😂Meanwhile , sir was struggling to find a comeback … sir finally spokeSir: tum achha ladka hai . Ekdam Bumrah jaisa khelta hai , smajh rahe ho . Khelte acche ho lekin finishing nahi aata hai Karne .Translation ( you are a good boy but you play like Bumrah you know how to play but can't finish the game the way he started ) 😂😂Him: sir, abhi 10 over toh bakki hi hai 😂. He clearly nailed it confidently
