PDF Editor FAQ

Why do some Asians, such as Chinese, Japanese, or Koreans, don't like black people or would not want to date them?

It should be obvious. For decades, many of us who lived in the US, we faced crime and have been victims to it. S Korea never had experience with black people, except with soldiers. We got a lot of news from relatives in the states, a lot of it was negative and it spread like a wildfire in our small country. I’ve known over a dozen Korean liquor store owners who have been shot or killed by black people.https://www.google.com/amp/thethreewisemonkeys.com/2011/08/30/young-american-man-erupts-on-bus-at-older-korean-man/amp/Three American women are being investigated by South Korean police over alleged assault viral videoVideo shows several passengers on a South Korean subway train moving away from a group of women whose cursing and antics became aggressive.https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.newsweek.com/south-korea-americans-subway-viral-video-harassment-assault-gangnam-anyang-872491%3famp=1Today, I watch the news and in the last year there have been negative instances of American black people being racist, rude, and even physically attacking Koreans on the bus and subway. One was an ignorant misunderstanding and one was bc someone asked three women to be quiet. The whole country saw this, of course it taints their image more. I was glad to hear that they were charged and the women even lost their jobs as English teachers. When this happened, all the academies stopped considering all black applicants for awhile, especially since parents are sensitive when it comes to their children.Dates? I’ve heard a flurry of reasons, but ultimately most Korean women find Korean men attractive. Communication and cultural understanding is important too!

Do you regret moving to Las Vegas?

Yes, I do regret.Be aware if you move to Las Vegas:Vegas is a city that attracts people from all over the world to look for dreams or a good job. This city its well known for being the entertainment capital of the world. Offering a great variety of Casinos, Luxury resorts, live shows, singers residences such as Celine Dion or Jennifer Lopez entertain with their shows. Also, people might consider to move here due to job opportunities in the hospitality or entertainment industry. However, there are stones on the road which make this path stenous. The State of Nevada is known as an income-tax-free state. However, what some people don’t know is that in Vegas they will always find ways to nickel and dime you. Job seekers need licenses for everything. There is no freedom in working some trades or skills as they make it hard for the applicant to get licensed. For instance: if you want to register your car Nevada you need to pass a smog check. If it does not pass twice, the DMV can exempt you if you pay at least $450 to a certified mechanic by the city, plus registration fees(vary by vehicle) would be an estimate average of $700. Another sample is doing Uber, as a Uber driver you need a business license with the city, estimated in $200 per year. To serve alcohol you need a tam card $35. To handle cash you need a Sheriff’s card $45. Most of jobs request money in advance and out of the candidate’s pocket. The job market and economy is very poor. Despite Las Vegas getting abundant money from tourists. Most service jobs are low paid. Most hotels and casinos are managed by three major corporations. These jobs are unionized which makes it hard for someone to get hired. However, there are many postings for part-time jobs. Companies prefer to hire part-time to avoid paying benefits which cut payroll costs. I have spoken to some people who have to work 2-3 jobs in order to make a decent living. Some make modest incomes thanks to tips. Or if you work in the adult entertainment industry you might make good money. Other big job industries are call-centers and warehouse-fulfillment centers but they have big turnover rate.Housing in Vegas is more affordable than other metropolitan areas such as Greater Los Angeles or the San francisco Bay Area. After the economy crashed. There are plenty of new developments everywhere in the valley including the gentrification of Downtown which is being made by a high-tech tycoon (this elevates rents). But, rents are not as cheap as they used to be. Checking rental prices such a 2 bedroom apartment is a gated community with pool, clubhouse, extra amenities would be $1100 to 1600 depending on the area. Most of people live with roommates. Most of new houses are purchased by people from California that bring plenty of cash after selling their homes in coastal areas.Regarding entertaiment, the city never sleeps, offering all types of entertainment: mainly casinos, bars, nightclubs and live shows. People who like to gamble or drink can ruin their life as casinos, bars and liquor stores are open 24/7. There is gastronomy from all over the world for all kind of budgets as same as bar options. As a conclusion, If you are moving to Vegas do good research before making the decision. I lasted two months without finding any job. Moved to Phoenix as had an offer here thankfully. Make sure to bring a good financial cushion to support yourself while looking for employment. Despite there are many postings on job sites, there is many people out there unemployed.Good Luck!![Note: based on what I observed and experienced.]

Are there any 50 year olds trying to get a job and experiencing ageism?

Oh yes. It is tough when you break 50 and sometimes even in your 40’s. Experience and degrees don’t seem to matter. You are “overqualified” which is an euphemism for too old.I’m 58 and just last week got my first full time job with a company after 10 years of looking. I had a few temp jobs along the way and worked for a friend for a few years, but sent out literally thousands of resumes without a bite. I changed my resume to hide my age by emphasizing my experience and removing dates, but employers are hip to that trick. The few times I got an interview I could see the face on the 30 something interviewer change the moment I entered the room and they saw my grey hair. Their attitude was suddenly was “How fast can we get through this?” I received a few cursory questions then “we will get back to you” and they never did. The funny thing is that our phone interviews went very well. I guess I sound younger than I am, but the in person interview was essentially over as soon as they saw me.Even landing my current job took much work. I started part time with the company a bit over a year ago and immediately started applying for full time jobs within. Though I was supremely qualified and trying for everything from entry level positions, to middle management, nada until last month. They were desperate for qualified people, yet ignored my applications for full time work for almost a year, despite the fact that I performed very well in my part time position.I worked in IT for nearly 40 years, including computer operations, programming, systems administration, systems analyst, QA testing and more, but could not get a bite in the IT world, even for entry level jobs. I once earned a low 6 figure salary and now I am working for a fraction of that, about what I was making when I was 22 and I’m happy to have the job.My trainer tells me how hard the job is and that I have so much to learn. Sure there are things to learn, but this is a piece of cake compared to what I used to do. I figured out their computer systems in about two hours and am already doing things that it takes younger hires months to learn. There is something to be said for experience. My younger brother, who has a degree from a top university, lost his job on Wall Street a few years ago. He got a temp job that lasted a year, but spent two of the last three years looking and just recently landed a job, at a fraction of his former salary.Another friend is now in his late 50’s and in IT and has some of the most desirable skills in the current IT world, still had a very hard time landing a new job. He worked a few consulting gigs before he landed his current job. He was out of work for over a year before he landed that job.Others my age and some a little older, whom I have worked with (absolutely brilliant IT people), are now working as landscapers, in liquor stores and at Home Depot. They gave up after years of frustration.Ageism is a dirty little secret. It is probably stronger than any other “ism” when it comes to finding a decent job.
