12 Friends and I were waiting for a bus..down at the intersection below us a car ran a redlight and hit another car…I said look a tire flew off..then it got up and stumbled..I ran down..the tire turned out to be a 6 year old boy..it looked as if someone took a pick and carved out his stomach..he was on dry grass and smelled like gasoline…then the idiot who caused the accident threw a lit cigarette on the grass..the boy caught on fire..I picked him up and held him close to me and close my jacket on him..got the flames out..when the pare medics took him from me I was covered in blood..the cops asked me if I saw what happened I said yes..and pointed to the jerk and said he ran a red light..and he threw a cigareette butt on the grass and told them about the boy…they arrested the guy and the cops drove me home…when my mom saw me she screamed ..the cops told her what happpened…around 6 that night it came on the radio the boy died…my mom came to me..and said you did all you could…I cried for so long…I never forgot that…and I can still see it in my mind..the whole thing..

I know of three things that might contribute to it. One is that in the US the definition of a “live birth” is a little different than in other countries (thanks abortion lobby!). US statistics tend to define “live births” to include seriously premature births in which the baby dies as a “live birth” even if it occurs so early that the baby never had a chance of living.Another reason is cars. European countries are much smaller, more people live in densely packed cities, and they don’t drive as much over there. Americans drive a lot more miles every year and have a correspondingly larger death rate in traffic accidents.Similarly, the US has far more rural residents living many hours from a big city and often very far from hospitals. While city dwellers are usually just a few minutes ambulance ride from a hospital, it might take an ambulance an hour to get there and an hour to get back to the hospital. In cases of severe accidents and crisis problems (like childbirth complications, heart attacks, strokes, and physical accidents) can take much more time. The better way to c on pare medical treatment in the countries (if that is your intent) would be to compare outcomes for patients of a given kind like premature births at 30 weeks or cancer survival for stage 3 lung cancer at five years.
