Is it fair to fire someone who already turned in their 2 weeks notice to quit?Sure, go ahead and fire the guy who quit. In the US, the employer can be held to unemployment compensation then, at least for the notice period. The employer gets the ding on his unemployment compensation and the employee gets a few extra bucks.It’s better and cheaper in the long run to allow them to work out their notice, or to accept their resignation and pay out their notice.

I actually did this in 2017.I quit from my then employer without having any other job opportunity in hand.I had issues with my team and manager precisely.Manager was giving me lots of work, even when other teammates were sitting idle.He made me sit till late hours in the office, because he used to setup conference calls with other colleagues who were working from United States.Those conference calls were useless totally.He used to have four meetings a day, just to take status of work. Each meeting used to continue for one hour which made 4 hours in a day totally useless.Even when I used to complete all the work assigned to me in time, still he didn't give me good salary hike.When I asked the reason, he just gave me lame reason.Gradually I began to realise that I can't work in such toxic workplace. No matter how much work I do, I was not being appreciated, instead I was being assigned more and more work.One day, he assigned me tons of work to be completed in two days. I requested him to spare me from meetings in which I am not required, so that I can focus on work.He denied.There were other people in my projects who didn't have any work. So I asked him to divide the work equally among teammates.He denied.I took a deep breath. I typed my resignation very next moment and sent to him.There were many unfair things happening with me there. So I lost my patience completely. I couldn't wait even for one day to find another job to quit from my then employer.As soon as my manager got my resignation, immediately he called me and asked for reason.I told him. He asked me to reconsider my decision. When he got to know that I didn't have any other job offer at the very moment, he laughed at me.He told me that I was making a stupid mistake. No company will give me job opportunity as I resigned from my job without having another job opportunity.He told me - “Shubhangi, you are ruining your career”.I told that I would not change my decision at any cost.As per company's policy , I had to serve three months of notice period. Each day my manager and teammates discouraged me for my decision.They told me that I would not get any job opportunity.They kept asking me to withdraw my resignation. They were ready to give me salary hike too. But I was determined.It was not just about money, it was the workplace which made me to quit.After that, I started applying for job. I kept preparing for interviews. That time, market was not good. I was getting very less interview calls.Some interviewer showed concern on my decision to resign without having another job opportunity.But I was determined.As fate would have it, I got an amazing job opportunity on the last day of my then employer.I told to my manager about that. He didn't look impressed.Who had the last laugh, guess?

The day I joined IBM India (Noida) I realised I made a blunder leaving HCL. Just next day after my joining the Talent manager tagged me to a project where my responsility was to monitor a specific IBM tool and create Excel sheet reports.Next day I went to him and told him the job profile doesn't match with my skill sets. I still can't believe the reply I received from him. He said “ this is not a restaurant that you have the Liberty to choose your own food” and I will be allocated to the right project when there is availability.I was completely shattered ! My turmoil doesn't end there. I had to do night shifts throughout my entire tenure of 10 months in IBM.One day I said to myself “enough” and I resigned within a week. Everyone felt it was an immature decision except my parents.Fortunately my notice period was one month as per IBM policy as I didn't complete an year. I came back to Kolkata my hometown and spend quality time with my parents. Also I used to update my Naukri profile on a daily basis and offers started pouring in. Finally after 3 months of unemployment I got an excellent offer from CTS Hyderabad.It's almost six months now I am here in Hyderabad and can't express how much happy and motivated I am. I work in an excellent project with awesome team mates and a superb manager.Also CTS gave me 43% hike from my last drawn salary.One thing I have understood now “ The only risk in life is not taking any risk”Cheers !!Edit :- I think I somehow deleted my answer during uploading couple of pics.
