What action needs to be taken in case an adopted child is adamant to go to his/her biological parents at the age of 20?

Unfortunately nothing. They are of legal age.My older brother and myself were adopted. My parents made the decision to tell us that we were adopted as soon as we could understand. I do not ever remember my parents sitting me down saying they had something to tell me. I have just always known I was adopted. My Mom told me that when my brother and I were little she would tell us stories about babies being adopted. Her stories were positive. Her stories were filled with love. She also told us when we turned 18 that we could search for our biological parents if we choose to. It was our right. When I was 22 I decided I wanted to search for my biological mother. I was adopted through the Children’s Home Society in the county I was raised in. It required myself and my mom to have signed notarized waivers from each of us in order for them to start the process. Even though I was of legal age my mother still had to sign one. They would not have been able to give my any information without hers. I believe the reason for this is what I was signing was permission to release my identity and my parents identity if my birth mother or birth father inquired about me.The first thing I expected to receive from the CHS would be un-identifying information about my birth parents. Things like nationality, how old they were, if they were married or not, what kinds of things they enjoyed doing and if they were good at any certain things, for example, if they were very gifted artists.I got a call from the CHS about 2 weeks after mailing the waivers to them. The woman on the phone was just calling to let me know that she received the waivers, that they were in order. She said she also was calling to let me know that my birth mother had sent in a waiver to them about 3 months earlier, that she was looking for me too. I was stunned. That was on a Friday. The woman told me she would be sending out a letter to my birth mother asking that she please give her a call. She also was going to leave her a message at her home. The woman told me she was not able to give me her phone number or anything yet, that she wanted to speak to her first. She was able to give me her first name, Carol. The weekend was very long. It was probably the strangest time in my life, those few days. I had always known I was adopted. I had my parents, life was normal until then. I felt very insecure. Reality was staring me right in the face. I came from somewhere else, from someone else. I felt like I didn’t know who I was. I spent most of my weekend at my parents house. I needed to hang on tight to them.I thanked them for loving me enough that I could do this. I also told them I would be sharing this experience with so many people. My friends, co workers, family but I needed them to go through this with me.I met my birth mom the next week. So began a new relationship in my life. I had many life long questions about my self answered. The missing pieces to my puzzle were put in place. What my parents did by not trying to stop me from finding my birth family was the most unselfish, loving act anyone could possibly do for another. I can’t imagine the fears and insecurities they must of felt. If they did, they never let me know. They didn’t want to influence my decision at all.I adored Carol and all the family I gained. She gave me life. But she was not my mom. Nothing could replace my mom and dad. They were wonderful with Carol they welcomed her with open arms. What a loss my life would have if my parents tried to keep me from finding her. I was so lucky because I had all 3 of them. I never had the thought or desire to walk away from my parents and go be with Carol. I truly believe meeting her gave me more love for my parents.I think any action you could take to prevent an adopted child who is 20 to go to their birth family is not to prevent it at all. Leave your heart open, let this child go explore who they are. They need to do this. They need to know things about who they are. It will help them succeed in life. Having a closed heart could cause you to loose them, just what you don’t want.I wish the best for you… for the adopted child… and the birth family.I believe adoption is a helpful solution. It has it’s happiness for the people who are adopting. Overall my feelings about adoption are not good. It is full of lifelong pain and hurt.

As a police officer, would you ever console someone by giving them a hug, and could you get in trouble for it?

Yes, I have done so on many occasions and no, you could not get in trouble at the time (the 70s to 90s).Now with the rabid nutcase feminists, you would probably need a signed and notarized waiver.

How do I file an uncontested divorce in Texas?

As best as I can recall, if you want to do it yourself, you will have to get the proper forms, file a petition, pay the filing fee, file the petition, let your spouse see the petition, get your spouse to sign a waiver so service isn’t necessary; after that, I’m not sure. I think you just file the signed, notarized waiver with the court where you filed the petition, and ask for a hearing for an uncontested divorce. The clerk of the District Court where you file the petition should be able to give you some information about that. However … I haven’t done family law in a number of years, so perhaps you need advice from someone who’s more up to date than I am. The procedures may have changed. I had an uncontested divorce in Texas, but I had an attorney representing me, since I worked for one.
