PDF Editor FAQ

As a car dealer, has an unkempt person surprised you with the car they could afford?

More than once! When Toyota introduced the Supra it was a big big deal. A crew from Corporate came to every dealership and spent hours showing us every special detail of this new sports car. The starting price was $66,000.00! Each dealership received one Supra. As instructed by Toyota the vehicle was placed center stage in the middle of the showroom. We were instructed: Serious buyers only! There was an easel set up next to the car explaining due to the high cost and uniqueness of this car test drives were dependent on credit check. Customers were asked to understand the need to keep mileage as low as possible for whomever would actually want to purchase the car.The curiosity was incredible and the majority understood why every Tom, Dick and Harry weren’t going for a fun ride just for the joy of it. An older couple came on the lot and headed straight for the showroom. The husband seemed in awe of this new Toyota. Neither husband nor wife looked as though they had combed their hair or ironed their clothes. They were both covered in cat or dog hair. Not one sales person approached them. I was no longer in sales but as Customer Relations Manager I didn’t want them to get the wrong impression of our dealership so I strolled over to welcome them and see if I could be of any assistance. The husband asked me a multitude of questions which I happily answered. Then he asks; so do I go through finance and once I prove I can pay for it can I take a test drive?Absolutely! I quickly filled out a work sheet and got them into finance. All the sales people were giggling. Better I waste my time than them waste theirs. The looks on their faces was priceless when the finance manager announced I should prepare for a test drive. Within the hour they had signed all the contracts and laid out a $25,000 down payment. They didn’t even try to negotiate price. It was the largest commission I ever received and I was no longer even a sales person. It was also the first Supra sold in our five-state region.Never judge a book by its cover.

Should English classes stop teaching Romeo and Juliet, given that it glorifies what would today be considered a child marriage?

No.Have you read some of the other things that the kids are reading in school these days?I can’t think of any novel that high school students read that doesn’t have something not G-rated in it.Two years ago, I was given a class set of “The Truth About Alice” from Scholastic. This is a company whose job it is to give teachers books to read with their class. They pretty much dominate the school novel industry. This novel had rave reviews from all of the teachers who used it. This book won national awards from teachers and teens alike. What’s it about? Here’s the summary from Amazon:Everyone knows Alice slept with two guys at one party. When Healy High star quarterback, Brandon Fitzsimmons, dies in a car crash, it was because he was sexting with Alice. Ask anybody.Rumor has it Alice Franklin is a slut. It's written all over the "slut stall" in the girls' bathroom: "Alice had sex in exchange for math test answers" and "Alice got an abortion last semester." After Brandon dies, the rumors start to spiral out of control. In this remarkable debut novel, four Healy High students tell all they "know" about Alice--and in doing so reveal their own secrets and motivations, painting a raw look at the realities of teen life. But in this novel from Jennifer Mathieu, exactly what is the truth about Alice? In the end there's only one person to ask: Alice herself. Many older novels revolve around violence. Many newer novels revolve around sex.If you want to write a hit “young adult” novel these days, you have to have one of these elements:sextingat least one LGBTQIA+ character whose parents don’t approve of that lifestyleunderage drinking or drug userapeAnyway, the reason I bring this up is that it’s entirely unfair to single out Romeo and Juliet for glorifying something that maybe parents don’t want glorified to their children. Every book does it. There’s always going to be some parent who doesn’t like something in one of the books the school assigned for their child. It’s just the way it is these days.

Why don’t the members of the National Rifle Association admit that the reason for being armed resides in fear?

1st I’m a Canadian. I don’t own a gun in Canada.I think the NRA is fearful for the present citizens of the US but also those who will follow them. This is a long answer, hopefully worth reading, but the short answer is this; Canada accepted common sense changes. The NRA or most any citizen of the US would not want to live like. There are some ‘common sense’ changes to gun laws that could be incorporated. We did that. We banned machineguns. Then we banned my old army rifle, the FNC1. At one time you could buy it in a catalogue of our biggest department store. (Great bear gun.) It had never been used in a crime. But they banned it.We have 3 rules. Permitted with a licence. Restricted (only usable on a range and can only be at home, on route to, or at the range) and Prohibited. You can’t use them anywhere, Can’t sell them to anybody who doesn’t already own one.)There are some exceptions for museums and stuff, but that is the general rule.I went to a sportsman show and found a Steyr AUG. Cool gun, available with a basic permit. Then overnight they became Prohibited. Nobody could buy them anymore. The store owners who had them had a rifle they couldn’t sell.Guys who bought them to hunt coyotes now had a gun that they couldn’t even take to their local range.2 years ago, a RCMP guy decided that a rifle should be banned because it looks like an AK47. This time, he did not allow it to be ‘grandfathered’. If you owned one, you were a criminal. You had to somehow get it to a police station so it could be scraped. The Government basically seized your property without compensation. (this was later overturned.)Around that time, there was a flood. The RCMP got the army to drive them into the flood zone. They had a list of who registered their guns. They drove to their homes, broke in the doors with crowbars, and without warrant searched the houses for the guns, including peoples closets. Nobody was ever arrested for this.Nobody paid for damages. The owners had to sue to get their guns back.Last month a man in an isolated home heard 2 guys breaking into his car. He is a small guy, middle aged. He brought a gun. One of the thiefs turned on him. He shot the thief in the arm. The homeowner was put in jail. His sentence will likely be longer than the thief (already on 2 sets of probation. ).Me, I’m out of the army so if I want to compete, I need to get a rifle. For that I will have to take a course. I won’t have to prove I’m competent, I will have to pass a test, answering an acronym (prove) and actually look down the business end of a barrel of a gun. That course will cost me $300 and 2 full days. Then I will wait 6 months while the cops investigate me. Sure, there are good reasons to refuse me; if I have a criminal record, mental instability etc. They will also refuse to give me a gun if I have been assaulted or had a robbery in the last 6 months.Let me say that another way. If they think I need a gun, they won’t let me have one. Then, every day my name will be run through a criminal investigation database. If the police want to take my gun for any reason, they can come into my house without a warrant. So, if you want to know why the NRA is fearful, just look at Canada.
