Edited to add: until recently, it was believed you did in fact need to re-vaccinate annually. It’s only with the improved titer testing and studies that it’s been discovered every 3 years is sufficient for the core vaccines, once the initial series and the first annual followup vaccines are completed.2. They won’t tell you that ALL rabies shots are 3 yr shot, not 1 year, even the yearly shot. (I called Pfizer and asked them)This is a LEGAL issue. Many states require that after your first rabies vaccine, you must get a booster within 1 year. Not 1 year + 1 day. After the one year booster, you can then get it every 3 years, provided you are not even 1 day late and the vaccine is labeled for 3 years.3. And you can buy the shots for about $15 at TSC and that INCLUDES the syringe. You can also buy the shots from pet catalogs.You have no idea if those vaccines were properly stored in a cool temperature while waiting for you to come purchase them. I know TSC sometimes has power outages and the vaccines end up warming up, losing their efficacy (I know someone who works at a TSC).If your animal the vet vaccinated has an allergic reaction or comes down with the disease your vet vaccinated for, the manufacturer will pay the associated medical bills. You do the vaccine yourself and you’re out of luck.I am constantly shocked by the anger and negative attitude people have for vets. They work their asses off getting their education and degree, they work their asses off caring for our animals, even those of people who bad-mouth vets, because they care for animals-that’s why they became vets! The suicide rate for vets is very high-think about it-they deal with all this crap from people, deal with seeing folks refuse to do the right thing for their pets because it’s too expensive, then blame the vet when the animal suffers and dies. Vets are not evil monsters out to rip everyone off and become rich.
