Can people in prison refuse to see visitors?

Yep, you surely can. The same provisions in the California Title 15 that gives you a right to receive visits also gives you a right to refuse visits. Here they are in fact from the CDCR Title 15:“3170. General Visiting. (a) These regulations are made in recognition and consideration of the value of inmate visitation as a means of increasing safety in prisons, maintaining family and community connections, and preparing inmates for successful release and rehabilitation. It is the intent of these regulations to establish a visiting process in the institutions/facilities of the department that is conducted VIA THE TITLE 15, DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS AND REHABILITATION §3170.1 in as accommodating a manner as possible, subject to the need to maintain order, the safety of persons, the security of the institution/facility, and required prison activities and operations. (b) The privacy of inmates and their visitors shall be respected subject to the need to verify the identity of an inmate or visitor; enforce laws, regulations, and procedures; and/or ensure the safety of persons and institution/facility security. Video-recording devices may be utilized in visiting areas, excluding family visiting units or confidential attorney consultation areas. (c) Visits with inmates may, without prior notification, be terminated, temporarily suspended, or modified in response to an institution/facility emergency as determined by the institution head or designee. Emergency modifications of the visiting schedule shall be posted at the institution/facility as soon as practical and will be included in the automated telephonic visiting information system. (d) Devices that do not allow physical contact between inmates and visitors shall not normally be used, except as provided in section 3170.1 or as necessary in the following circumstances: (1) Physical contact with a visitor(s), or with other inmates, will seriously endanger the safety of persons or the security of the institution/facility, (2) As a temporary measure for willful failure or refusal to abide by visiting regulations. (e) Each inmate and visitor is responsible for his or her own conduct during visits. Any violation of laws, regulations, or local procedures governing visits may result in termination, suspension, revocation, or denial of visiting with the person or persons involved, as described in section 3176. Such violation may also result in exclusion from the facility, as described in section 3176.3. (f) Reasonable accommodation shall be afforded visitors and inmates with disabilities to facilitate their full participation in contact, non-contact, or family visiting as provided in these rules. What's the strangest or most unusual restaurant you've ever visited?

Here I'm writing about an Indian Restaurants. When it comes to dining out, quality food and a comfortable ambience is not enough nowadays- it is too mainstream. To break the monotony, some people have dared to think out-of-the-box and come up with themes that have the power to tickle a customer's fancy/fancies.For all you kooky food-lovers out there, we have rounded up a list of all the oddball eateries in India.1. Kaidi Kitchen, Chennai - Get the feel of eating in a jailEver wondered how eating in a jail would feel like? Of course, who wouldn't imagine going to jail at least once in their life! *duh-uh* Looks like this restaurant is built for two kinds of people - for the ones who have never been to jail AND for the ones who want to re-live their experience in jail. We cannot think of any other reason. With the staff dressed as inmates and jailers, it sure is an arresting experience.Source: divasays2. Nature's Toilet Cafe, Ahmedabad - Eat while you sit on a potLooks like a Sulabh Toilet Museum to me that serves food - it connects the two essential human body processes in the quirkiest way possible! Why, you ask? Maybe it's for people who have a fetish for sitting on toilet seats and eating. *Imagination just got hijacked* This cafe owns a toilet garden which boasts a collection of more than twenty lavatories and urinals which date as far back as the 1950s. (Sulabh museum, we told you!)Source: hungryforever3. Silver metro, Bangalore - Eating inside this metro is not prohibitedYou have traveled in metro trains, but have you dined in one? This unusual dining spot in Bengaluru looks exactly like the interiors of a train with its walls painted silver. The only difference is that people in this metro welcome you with food and warmth instead of people pushing you, (almost) sitting on your lap and stinking of sweat in real metros.Source: Burrp4. 70 mm, Hyderabad - Experience the thrill of cinema and admire itDo you love food and are a big fan of musical and melodramatic flicks? Well, then 70mm exists just for you. From Mother India, to Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, all the iconic posters of these legendary Indian movies have been immortalized on the walls of this restaurant. Oh! They also screen famous Hindi movies in the restaurant! NEEEEED of the hour.Source: bhaskar5. Seva Cafe, Ahmedabad - Pay whatever you want to, for othersIt works on the principle of gift economy - the meal you will have in the restaurant has already been paid for by someone in advance, and you can return the favour by paying for someone else’s meal. Customers are also encouraged to help out in any other way in the cafe they want to. Tax free, stress free meals.Source: servicespace6. Hijackk Restaurant, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Surat, Rajkot - Enjoy your meal(s) on wheelsThe venue is basically a double decker, mobile bus - fully air-conditioned with an upper and lower deck, hosting a seating capacity of around 44 people. The Bar Stock Exchange, Mumbai - The prices of beverages rise and crash just like the stock marketThe prices of beverages at this place rise and crash just like the stock market. The drinks cost cheaper when the bar opens and the prices start peaking after a while. A drink may even become dirt cheap or super expensive depending on the increasing or falling demand for it. Cross Cafe, Mumbai - Of all things, they found inspiration for the decor in Nazi propagandaDaring, because it was formerly named Hitler's cross. Sigh!Source: hungryforever14. What is it like to visit someone in jail?

When my husband was still in prison I went to see him. It was a 2 hour drive to the prison he was in (from his 30 year sentence), visiting hours were 8am to 3pm so I'd leave at 6am to spend as much time there as possible. I had to make an appointment at least a month in advance but they only have certain windows to make the appointments. For example, to see him in January, on a Saturday, I had to schedule time in October. Twice a month was all I could do, tops, to maintain my home and sanity. Before you can visit someone, they have to add you to their visiting list. They're only allowed to have a set number of people on their lists but most inmates receive very few, if any visitors. I don't know of anyone that's ever maxed out their list. You have to fill out an application and a copy of proof of residency and a copy of a state ID (I used my driver's license). It can take up to 60 days to get tenatively approved. Once your application is in that stage you can make an appointment. What to wear: no yoga pants, no sleeveless tops, no open toes. Nothing tight or low cut. No colors like the inmates wear, no underwire bra, I'd just be as conservative as possible. I understand. It's a prison. Visitors have been caught not only bringing in contraband (drugs and cell phones) but actually having sex on visits. Prison is not a democracy, and if you don't dress in a way they feel is acceptable, they will turn you away. And then you're off to the store to buy new clothes or just going home.Once I'd arrive I'd add money to my card for the vending machines. The machines only take those cards as payment. It's a white card the size of a credit card, that gets loaded with cash in the lobby in a machine. Then, sign in, wait to be called, and put everything except that card and the driver's license in a locker. Once I'd be called I'd go through a metal detector, and my hand stamped with ink that's invisible to the naked eye but shows up under a lamp. The guards check your hand for it when you leave to make sure you're not an inmate waltzing out with the visitors. Once you're past the metal detectors they give you a pass to go to the visiting room. The pass is held up for the guard to see on the other side of the door and you're buzzed in. The guard in the room tells you your seat assignment and before experienced visitors sit down, they buy anything they want from the machines for the entire visit because by 12 o'clock those machines will be empty. The inmates can't leave their seats so I'd get food and drinks for us and put it on the table. The inmates all sit on one side and the visitors on the other side in rigid plastic chairs. The table has a 15" surface area and is knee high. There are no windows and no natural light. It can get very noisy and there are guards walking around, listening and watching. We were allowed a short hug and kiss hello and goodbye. Maybe brief hand holding during the visit. Again, prison is not a democracy and I'm sure contraband is an issue. We weren't allowed to touch in photos so I hated having pictures done. I didn't want a photo of us standing side by side likes something from American Gothic but with Mickey and Minnie mouse for a backdrop. The visit itself is good, but the room is filled with every emotion you can imagine - joy, tears, shame, anger, and everything in between. I noticed that the younger inmates, guys in their late teens/early 20's had females their age. Guys in their late 20's/early 30's had family, usually a mother figure with a young child. I assumed it was the inmate's mother and a child the inmate had. There were very few inmates in their 40's and older with visitors but they'd have an elderly parent or one visitor, and those visits were less animated and quiet. If you have to use the bathroom, you have to wait for a guard to open the door. And, of course there aren't mirrors in there. The end of the visit was hard, I never got used to watching him line up to get strip searched before going back, and leaving alone for a long drive home back to my normal life.I imagine some people are wondering why I did this instead of just moving on with my life. I met my husband when I was 10, he was 16. He was like a very protective older brother. His home life was absolutely horrible. When he finally got arrested and went to prison I felt profound grief, like I heard he'd died. I got married, got divorced, and thought about him often over the years. I wrote him to see how he was doing and he wrote me a very nice, thoughtful letter back. Eventually I went to visit him and found that he was funny, intelligent and someone I could spend hours talking to. The rest, as they say, is history. Now, living with someone that spent a long time in prison is a post for another day.
