PDF Editor FAQ

Are there any private healthcare insurance companies in countries with a single payer healthcare system? Are they still competitive in these countries?

Yes. There are a lot of them in Canada. They offer extension plans, above and beyond what the single payer system covers. For example, I see one of the top rheumetologists in Canada. That doctors visit (now only once a year because yay good drugs!) is covered completly under OHIP, the Ontario single payer plan. The drugs I need are covered by a plan selected by my employer and paid for by a combination of paycheque deductions and my employer. That plan covers things like travel medical insurance, drugs, extra hospital benefits like paying for a private room, orthotics, dental, orthodontics, etc.Companies that offer this in Canada include Manulife, Blue Cross, Green Shield, Sun Life, Great West Life, and State FarmThe Swiss system only has private companies, but everybody has to be covered and the prices are regulated.

What are the proven health benefits of green tea?

Weight Loss. Green tea increases the metabolism. The polyphenol found in green tea works to intensify levels of fat oxidation and the rate at which your body turns food into calories.Diabetes. Green tea apparently helps regulate glucose levels slowing the rise of blood sugar after eating. This can prevent high insulin spikes and resulting fat storage.Heart Disease. Scientists think, green tea works on the lining of blood vessels, helping keep them stay relaxed and better able to withstand changes in blood pressure. It may also protect against the formation of clots, which are the primary cause of heart attacks.Esophageal Cancer. It can reduce the risk of esophageal cancer, but it is also widely thought to kill cancer cells in general without damaging the healthy tissue around them.Cholesterol. Green tea reduces bad cholesterol in the blood and improves the ratio of good cholesterol to bad cholesterol.Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. It is said to delay the deterioration caused by Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Studies carried out on mice showed that green tea protected brain cells from dying and restored damaged brain cells.Tooth Decay. Studies suggests that the chemical antioxidant “catechin” in tea can destroy bacteria and viruses that cause throat infections, dental caries and other dental conditionsBlood Pressure. Regular consumption of green tea is thought to reduce the risk of high blood pressure.Depression. Theanine is an amino acid naturally found in tea leaves. It is this substance that is thought to provide a relaxing and tranquilizing effect and be a great benefit to tea drinkers.Anti-viral and Anti-bacterial. Tea catechins are strong antibacterial and antiviral agents which make them effective for treating everything from influenza to cancer. In some studies green tea has been shown to inhibit the spread of many diseases.Skincare. Green tea can apparently also help with wrinkles and the signs of aging, This is because of their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. Both animal and human studies have demonstrated that green tea applied topically can reduce sun damage.

Do millennials have it tougher than previous generations?

Do millennial's have it tougher than previous generations? No, and really that is a silly question. Its all the rage now for some people to proclaim loudly on social media how much better everyone before them had it. Victim mentally is in vogue now and claiming martyrdom status is like a badge of honor.Stop right there and think about what I just said.“Its all the rage now for some people to proclaim loudly on social media”That right there. If your venting your anger at the world on twitter, Instagram, Facebook, or even quora on your $800 phone or $1500 dollar computer you don't have it tough.Tough just 60 years ago meant living on the street, having no heat in the winter, and not enough food to eat. Tough now means you have to use a Government phone with limited minutes. The definition of what tough is seems to have gotten dilluted over the years.Life is not tough unless you cant eat, have no heat, and have no hot water. If you have all those your life is less tough then most peoples throughout history. In most liberal states you can now go cradle to grave not holding a job without starving. That has never happened in the course of human history. This is not a poke at millennial's. Very few generations have it tougher then the ones before them. It is rare that someone has it tougher then their parents. My life was easier then my fathers, his easier then his fathers etc. etc. Technology, social welfare etc have improved almost every decade.I cant even fathom the job my father did pouring molten steel, iron, and cobalt for a living. He regularly came home with burns all over his body from the dangerous work he did. He would have been checking himself in to a hospital every week now.I still remember his hands, they were like sandpaper. He had callouses on top of callouses. If he ran his hands over my arms it felt like wood.He had polio as a child and one leg was slightly shorter then the other. Today he would be able to claim disability. Back then it was just considered bad luck, and you better hope they don't notice at the steel plant, textile mill, or coal mine or you might lose your job.His father worked the railroad splitting and laying rail across the country. He swung a mallet 10 hours a day in the blistering sun. After he was done he could enjoy a meal at a local diner…… If he could find one that let “colored” people in.If you lost your job during my fathers lifetime you (maybe) got a couple weeks of unemployment and a couple more of food stamps. When that ran out you had better have found a job or you and your family where living in a box.If you lost your job during my grandfathers time they gave you some change and you had better hope you saved something up to tide you over until you found a job or you and your family where living in a box.No such thing as benefits for life for the non working has ever existed, until this generation. One of the arguments people like to make is the one parent earner could support a family. What they fail to realize is what that male usually had to do to earn that money. Most young men of the millennial generation are not willing to do that type of work regardless of how tough they say they have it.Case in point:The Dakota Oil boom isn't what it was 10 years ago but they are still begging strong young men to come and work the oil fields. The pay is great, the medical and dental benefits are top notch. But the work is physically demanding, its dangerous, the hours suck and so does the weather. If life was “tough” they wouldn't have to beg guys to show up to earn over 100K a year.In a perfect example of how “not tough” life is now in a post similar to this one of the young men complaining about how tough they had it went so far as to comment “who the hell would want to live there?”How “tough” can his life be if he says no to a good paying job because the weather isn't like California? Apparently life has gotten so “not tough” males in this country can look down on physically demanding labor.Me, my father, my grandfather and probably every other male in my family tree before them would have been on the first thing smoking headed for those jobs. The truth is 100 years ago most of us that are male and working class would be working in a dangerous hot, cold, dark place. Today we complain about jobs were you have to stand for more than 2 hours. Not being able to get a home loan (the most frequent thing brought up by those that think they have it tough) or putting yourself in debt for life to get a college degree in social sciences doesn't make life tough. If you couldn't eat because of those things then that would be tough.Oddly though I have never seen a person that looked malnourished complain about student loans or housing costs.
