PDF Editor FAQ

What is your salary? Are you happy with it?

I started my carrer when I was 18 just after completing my 12th in 2016. It was a situation when we were not financially stable. So I gave a interview in a company where generally they don't allow anyone without graduation but don't know how they gave me an opportunity to work with them. They offered me 13k per month. And I was so happy. But there were some additional incentives also so I could manage 18–19k per month. After a year I got promotion in Jan 2017 and I became the youngest Financial Analyst. I didn't get that much hike it was just 20% on my basic (13k) But now I had 2 direct reporting and both were of in 25–26 age group and I was just 19 😊. This time in early 2017 I was getting 21–22k. But people around me thought that I am working in call center but it wasn't. Actually this was the brokerage firm where I had to deal with people to open their demat account and had to put trades on their behalf.Fact - in this company there was so much attrition because of sales pressure. Then in Dec 2018 I went to Pune for searching a job. So I gave an interview in Eclrx (name changed) and cleared all 5 rounds and out of 59 people 2 were selected that was me 😊 and one more guy.Now I was working in a group there all were seniors ( average age of that group was 32 around) and I was 21 so it was quite difficult to make friends there So they all were my elder brothers. all were so helpful. It was a Data management group for New York based Hedge funds. But here my salary was just 14700 per month. And in the same group average package was 10 LPA. It was quite difficult to manage with just 15k where I had to pay 5500 as rent and 3000 for food 600 for travelling. I never used to party and always be at my PG on weekends.I did that job because I knew there was a career growth. I learned lot of things which is very useful in investment banking. Initially my manager thought I couldn't do this job as I was fresher for them and he was not ready to take any fresher in his team as before me they never hired any fresher but due to budget problem they had to took me in his team as analyst this time. And there in 18 months I proved myself and became favorite of my manager who rejected me before. I was rated twice as Star performer of my team and now he calls me hero. I learned JIRA, SQL and many more applications. It was going well but just salary was the thing that made me unhappy. It was just 14700 and sometimes I do US shift so I used to get 18500.Taunt - some people used to say that you will not get more as you did just b.ComBut they didn't know I worked hard. Then day came July 2020 when I got call from one of the biggest international investment bank.So interview scheduled at night 10 Pm. I gave interview they asked me some questions it went for an hour. Then said they have 5 people in a queue. So they will get back to me.Then for next 3 days I didn't receive any call from them and I had lost my all hopes. After 3 days, when I was sleeping, suddenly got a call from HR then they scheduled technical round for me at 2 am late night as it was taking by Senior manager from Newyork. And after interview this time I was so confident. I got selected as senior analyst. then they asked me for package. So as you all know mine was 217000 so I asked them for 350000 but they didn't give me this. They have given me below one.My current package is 6 LPA 🥳 my in hand salary is around 48k and more sometime. And here also I am youngest in my team of 40 people.Fact - on this 11 Jan 2021 I have completeled my five year of employment . Now I am 23.So it was all my hard work and dedication.I don't have qualification degree but I have quality dedication..It's of 2016–2017It's of Jan 2021I don't have any pics of my new office as we are WFH.Please give your valuable comments. Thanks in advance 😊👍

What is your review of Ashoka University?

[Update: I wrote the original version in my first year. I have now updated the answer wherever required, since it seems to have helped a lot of my juniors. Also, a lot of people asked me this question on personal messages: I am NOT paid by my University to write this answer. They probably don’t even know of its existence.]Aha!Its that time of the year again when so many parents and students ask such questions on Quora, and wonder whether or not Ashoka is a good place to be in, and more importantly, a good place for them to be in.I am a first [edit: second] year undergraduate at Ashoka University. And unlike a lot of others here, I know what my major is going to be - Computer Science. I joined Ashoka after a lot of research, and even a lot more apprehension because most people I spoke to hadn’t heard of Ashoka. But now that I am here, I will try to write the most honest answer I can, resting aside all biases.ProsThe Student Body - The admission process to Ashoka is very stringent, and a student requires not just good academics, but also decent co-curriculars to get in. The Admissions team has been doing a wonderful job too. And so, the quality of students at Ashoka is simply great! Every student is intimidated by the amount of talent around them, while being extremely talented themselves. The Faculty - You probably know that one of the USPs of Ashoka is its amazing faculty. We have faculty members who are alumni of Harvard, Stanford, Oxford and other such prestigious universities around the world. But apart from all that jazz, the administration takes student feedback very seriously. Visiting professors, even if they are from Institutes as prestigious as IIT Delhi (and we have regularly had such professors, especially for CS), are not employed for subsequent semesters if student feedback for them is not good. Our Campus/Infrastructure - We have a world class infrastructure. Really. No kidding. I swear. Our hostel rooms, our classrooms, the indoor sports complex, our library, open fields—everything. The maintenance teams have a huge role to play in this, and they constantly do a wonderful job.(New point added) The Model of Education - This is something unmatched, at least in India. In my 2 years at Ashoka, I have never had to rote learn, not even once. I was made to write a research paper in my very first semester. Our grading is through essays, research papers, creative projects, individual and group presentations, class quizzes, assignments and exams. After two years here, I feel this is the best aspect about Ashoka—the way we are taught.Other Stuff -Even though we are a bit away from Delhi, we don’t have transportation problems. There is a free of cost shuttle service which drops you to the nearest metro station (Jahangirpuri, yellow line). We have a lot of clubs and societies. So many that it becomes difficult for us to decide which ones to join. Further, each student has his/her right to start a new club or society whenever they want.Student-teacher interaction - We often find ourselves sitting and having meals with our professors and we talk about much more than just academics. Apart from that, the Masters students, YIFs and the UGs share the same facilities. So, we are in constant touch with them, and sometimes have great conversations with them too.We regularly have a lot of talks and speeches by eminent guest speakers. There are times when it becomes difficult to decide which ones to attend because they coincide. The different centres we have. Centre for Writing and Communication, Centre for Entrepreneurship, Trivedi Centre for Political Data, Centre for Sexuality and Gender Studies and other such centres work closely with the students and help us with the much needed experience of working with professionals.Other than the mess, we have many other (very reasonable) food outlets on campus. So you’ll find yourself not knowing where to have your meals on a daily basis.I could go on and on. But the cons now. Oh and it could be possible that some other universities would quickly ask me to delete this part of the answer. But (as cheesy as it sounds) I am at Ashoka. ;)ConsThe size of the campus - Our campus is not very large, its just 25 acres in area. And so, it does not give us a feel of a University. But then, it makes us a closer family, so its not much of a problem. Edit: with the batch of 2020 coming in, common spaces have now started feeling a bit crowded. The Popularity - Lets face it, all of us want to go to popular universities, and fairly so. Ashoka is not very popular among the masses right now. But the rapidity with which its gaining popularity is surprising. Being just 3 years old, its doing very well on that front and we believe that it’ll be one of the best in India very very soon.No Placement Record - We do not have any placement record for the undergraduates, since the founding batch is currently in its third year. Since we have an option of the fourth year for them, we might not have proper placement data until 2018. But, we are expecting good placements, going on the YIF placement record. Edit: out of 136 or so students graduating in 2017, around 120 are staying back for the optional 4th year. Out of the rest, 2 got placed in Citibank, 2 got admission into prestigious Grad Schools in Europe and 1 got into IIM-A.Being a new university, things are yet to be in place, its a work in progress. There are things that go wrong, but we learn from our mistakes (by “we”, I refer not just to the students but to the Ashoka Family as a whole). Personally, I don’t consider this a con, because we are able to be a part of the all important process of laying the foundation of the University. Edit: Personally, I got the opportunity to be able to ideate on and organise the first inter-varsity sports fest of Ashoka this year. I’m sure most students here have had similar experiences. The fees - Ashoka is undoubtedly quite expensive. But it does not give up on student quality in favour of money. The University offers need based financial aid. This means that the fees is never a hindrance for a student to join Ashoka. If a student is good enough to be here, he/she is given financial aid upto 100%. I know people who are on 100% scholarship. In fact, more than 50% of us are on some percentage of financial aid.All in all, I am extremely happy to be here, and don’t regret my decision one bit. If not Ashoka, I would have been in some engineering college in India, and I am glad that I didn’t go to any. I have friends in the most prestigious engineering colleges, but they aren’t enjoying studying there.Don’t hesitate from contacting me for any kind of help (especially CS majors will likely have a lot of questions about the degree and all. I have researched on that enough).Hope this helped! Hope to see you at Ashoka soon :DEdit: If you have been accepted to Ashoka’s UG batch of 2021, please join this Facebook group to interact with seniors and other applicants—Log into Facebook | Facebook
