It is pretty darn high relative to the general population. being in the top 0.68%, i.e., found in about one out 147. It is more than enough to get one into most gifted students programs. This happened to me personally, as I come from a family of engineers and university professors, with many having PhDs. This led me to believe that, intellectually speaking, I was just “average” and unremarkable, though my IQ is higher than that of 99% of the gifted.As an illustration of how a selected environment might skew one’s perceptions of his/her intelligence, take Quora itself. It is a safe bet that the mean IQ here is substantially higher than that of the average population, perhaps something like 117 (see What is the average IQ of Quora's users?). Such a figure does not seem that high, and there is definitely no majority of high IQ individuals here, but they are much, much, more common than in the general population, as one can see from the table below (the values for Quorans were estimated considering a mean of 117 and an SD of 15, i.e., homogeneity of variance).So, while an individual interacting primarily with the general population would find only one out of 20 people with a gifted-level IQ (126+) the figure for those interacting mainly with Quora users is six times higher. For someone with an IQ of 137, that would go from one in 147 to one in 4.3. It would feel like having an IQ of 111.There is also the fact that usual depictions of highly intelligent individuals is often unrealistic. In movies and TV shows is often exaggerated and the eminent thinkers that make it into the history books are more the exception than the rule. Both things things make it harder for one to perceive oneself as having an exceptionally high IQ.Finally, intelligence alone gets you only so far. The rest must come from self-regulation, hard work, opportunities, how one interacts with others and so forth. Forgetting that will tend to make one equate intelligence with achievement, but the latter is much rarer than the former, leading to its underestimation.

I had a neighbor who just kept making complaints. I owned the house next to him and an additional lot. This made me the own the largest two lots at the end of the private road. My lots were 5 times the size of the other lots.Well this neighbor decided that he was entitled to part of my property.He decided to form a committee of the last 4 lots. I owned two of the lots. They somehow decided that there were 3 owners and, without ever notifying me of the committee, held a vote to have a cul-de-sac put in 90% on my property.So the first time I hear about this is when the water company shows up and asks where I want my water meter moved. Me: “why is my water meter being moved?” Them “you requested it and it is necessary for the paving.” Me: “What?” Them: “It will be $147 to move your meter”. Me: “What? Don’t do that”.Next I got a call from the paving company. Needless to say I disabused from the knowledge that they had permission to remove “fern” trees aka Cypress trees. I sent them certified letters to prevent them from doing anything.Then the neighbor sent me lawyer letters (written from his wife who is a paralegal, law firm). I sent them a strongly worded certified letter.They went away legally. I put bright pink paint on my boat house on their side.ETA: He kept calling the police on me. Eventually they started citing him for false calls. Video is a wonderful thing.
