You just triggered my never-ending albeit currently inactive mission (which just became active again) to promote the German science fiction pulp booklet series PERRY RHODAN.Real world informationThis series had been conceived in the latest 1950s and up to 1961 by the authors Karl Herbert Scheer (due to his service ice in the WW-II German navy, the submarine fleet and his profoundly written military parts of this series he got the nickname “Hand Grenade Herbert”) and Walter Ernsting (who named himself Clark Darlton since he believed that an English sounding name was better for reputation). HG Evers was one of the founding authors too.Since 1961, the authors of the different generations of authors (none of the founding authors is still alive) wrote an issue every week until now, without any interruption.Now, the series has reached issue 3070 (← auto translated by google). It spans over a fictional future time span of 3662 years into the future counting from 1971 (this year was ten years into the future when issue 01 came out).The series is written by a team of authors under the lead of an expose author who plans the series in advance. (In German but you can use the country flags at the top right part of the site to fully auto translate it into several languages like English, Spanish etc).As an internal naming convention within the series, names of space crafts, large scale entities, space stations are written in all caps.Since the writers wrote the series right before the real history Venera missions by the Soviets and other space probes examining planet Venus, the authors went with the idea of the jungle world Venus populated by gigantic dinosaurs, dangerous insects and a hot and humid climate with heavy rainfalls and a harsh environment.The series is divided into story arcs of about 30 to 50 issues and the first story arcs are available in English and not just the German original language.The early plotIt is the year 1971, the US Space Force wages its first manned moon landing done by major Perry Rhodan and his trusted team consisting of captain Reginald Bull, captain Clark Flipper und Dr. Eric Manoli.Rhodan and his team uses the newly developed moon rocket STARDUST whose moon lander stage has a nuclear engine.En route to moon, the crew of the STARDUST encounters first problems and manages a crash landing on moon. After doing the needed repairs, Rhodan and Bull drives with their moon rover to the source of the disturbances and discovers an alien space craft, spherical with 500 meters diameter, it crashed too and Rhodan and Bull managed to get invited into this space craft.Here, both humans discovers human aliens which names their race “Arkonides” and tell Rhodan that they came from the M13 globular cluster 34′000 light years from Earth.The alien space craft is named AETRON and the AETRON is commandeered by the female Arkonide (Vere’Athor = Captain) Thora da Zoltral from the ruling house of the Zoltral. The scientific leader of the mission is Crest da Zoltral from the same noble house, he is the Ka’Marentis (Minister of science) of the Tai’Ark-Tussan (The Greater Arkon Empire).The mission was to find the world of a mysterious entity who can grant the immortality since the last active Arkonides desperately wants to make their last remaining great minds immortal since the Arkonide Empire is in a severe decline due to complacence, decadence, heavy computer game addiction, drug abuse by the elite and even the general population.Crest has Leukemia which can be cured on Earth after the famous Australian Dr. Haggard recently discovered the right cure for blood cancer. Dr. Eric Manoli aboard the AETRON determines that the anti-Leukemia serum will work on Crest since the biology of the Arkonides is very similar to that of the Terrans.Crest volunteers to be brought to Earth by Rhodan and so, Rhodan wants fully AWOL and declares his space ship which he landed not in the US as expected but in the dessert of Gobi in the Inner Mongolia. Fast forward a few years.In 1984, the Third Power managed to get their hands on more alien space crafts, had some adventures in outer space.Rhodan found the alien entity which can grant the immortality but this entity named ES rejects the Arkonides the immortality since the Arkonides had their chance to prove themselves worthy, ES gives the immortality to Rhodan and enables him to chose other Terrans fit for immortality.Well, in 1984, the Robot Regent of Arkon, a gigantic computer on the military central world of the Arkonides removed the Arkonide emperors from their actual position of power and rules the Arkonide Empire with an iron fist again. Programmed with old political agendas and Arkonide ideologies of expansion, the Regent and its robotic fleets are reconquering lost territories of the Arkonide Empire, forces them unter the mechanical rule of the robots of Arkon.And this regent considers Earth with these so Arkonide like inhabitants a great target for colonization.So, Rhodan manages to convince the galaxy, Earth had been destroyed.In the same year, the unified Earth government had been founded and Galakto City was renamed in Terrania City.A bit later, Rhodan and Thora marries.In 1990, the unified Earth government after already having sent out the first settlers into the Solar System and some surrounding solar systems founds the Solar Empire with Rhodan as the elected First Administrator.………. Fast forward a few years.It’s the year 2040. The bluff that Earth was “destroyed 56 ago” still works. The Solar Empire became a more powerful organization with its own space fleet of about 4500 larger and hundreds of thousands of small military space crafts like the 1500 diameter IMPERIUMS KLASSE RAUMER (Empire Class Space Crafts), the mutant corps has become the top secret weapon of the Terrans still governed by Rhodan who by now is a man of 104 years of age and still looking like in his late 30s thanks to the immortality he had been granted by ES.On Earth, war, hunger, diseases, famines are a thing of the primitive past. The Terrans enjoy peace, prosperity and a growing interstellar empire which is being built up in secrecy and whose most important outer world was Venus, the other “Earth” in the Solar System.In this year, a stranger emerges from beneath the Atlantic Ocean, his name is Atlan. He is an Arkonide who lived for 10′000 years on Earth and was one of the last Arkonides granted the immortality by ES. He stranded here on Earth and accompanied mankind on its way from the late Stone Age to the space age to finally get an interstellar space craft to return home.After finding out that humanity didn’t destroy itself in 1971, but instead now have an fledgeling interstellar empire, his only mission is to get n interstellar space craft to return home since he was so home sick.He was furious about his miss calculus of humanity, the the slept in a hibernation capsule in his submaritime base south of the Azores thus missing the greatest moment in humans history, namely humans becoming an interstellar power.Rhodan, still needing the secret of the still existing Earth intact, needs to prevent Atlan from escaping to Arkon and between two great men, both heroes, both antagonists to each other, a fierce fight with espionage methods, the escapes of Atlan from traps by Rhodan, and many other adventures, Atlan eventually manages to get into a SPACE JET, a small FTL space craft and no other than Rhodan.On planet named Hellgate (hot as Mercury), Atlan and Rhodan fought their greatest battle, Atlan almost defeated Rhodan and both men acknowledged that a fight is pointless between both.Another reason for Atlan fighting the Terrans is the fact that the Arkonides are so decadent, so weak and he, Atlan was born in an age of strong, determined and powerful Arkonide men and women. He couldn’t believe that his beloved Arkonide civilization almost ended. So, he needed a bit of self confirmation.After the second direct fight between Rhodan and Atlan on Venus, both men, tired of the mutually fight started to become friends.………. Fast forward a few years.After more adventures in 2044, Atlan da Gonozal, who was no other than the designated ruler of Arkon back 8000 BCE, eventually became the new emperor of Arkon since he was strong, determined, highly intelligent, right for the program of the Robot Regent to acknowledge his claim and so, the Robot Regent freely became the servant to Atlan.………. Fast forward a few years.In the early 22nd century, Rhodan and his friends discovers that the Arkonides themselves are descendants of another human alien species, the Akons.The now even more powerful Solar Empire and the Arkonide Empire creates the common United Empire under the lead of Rhodan.Atlan resigns from the throne of Arkon since he was soooo fed up with all the intrigues, the power plays of the decadent Arkonide nobility and he happily joined the Terrans again.………. Fast forward a few years.The United Empire split up again, the Solar Empire became fully independent again, still governed by Rhodan who manages to be re-elected almost permanently since his governing of the Solar Empire was so accepted by the Terrans.The Terrans and the Solar Empire and the galactic police force the USO under the command of Lord Admiral Atlan, both allies, needs to fight an empire from the other side of the Milky Way galaxy.………. Fast forward a few years.Now, it’s the year 2400, the Solar Empire, despite not that far reaching than the Arkonide Empire at its height, now is the most powerful galactic empire, the Terrans are controlling many aspects of the life of the galaxy, are those keeping peace intervening if some dictators and other evil guys run amok.The Solar Empire is highly supported by its allies, the USO, a powerful robotic species, the Posbi and many other smaller non-human galactic countries.Despite its self designation as an empire, the Solar Empire is the largest democratic federal state with a constitution and a modern system of checks and balances.Well, in this year 2400, the by now greatest adventure of mankind starts. Rhodan and his allies, helpers got visited by the Halutian Icho Tolot who brings back some stranded Terrans and after this meeting, the Terrans under Rhodan and some parts of the USO under Atlan makes their hard way to the neighboring Andromeda Galaxy.Here, they find out that this neighboring galaxy is ruled by the evil Meister der Insel (MdI = Masters of the Island).To prevent the MdI to conquer the Milky Way Galaxy, the Terrans and their allies decides preemptive military campaign to the Andromeda Galaxy to liberate it from the murderous MdI.During this time, Rhodan and his friends and allies learns, that even the Akons, the forefathers of the Arkonides are descendants of another interstellar human species, the Lemurians whose empire was created from Earth, the Lemurians are the First Mankind, the Terrans their most direct descendants and so, it plays out that the Akons, Arkonides and all the other human aliens are descendants of Earth thus humans too.Rhodan and his friends experiences the Lemurian Halutian war taking place around 50′000 BCE during one of the last ice ages on Lemur/Earth during which the early and highly aggressive Halutians, fearing time experimentations to a paranoid level, waged a genocidal war against the Lemurian “time criminals” as the early Halutians called the first mankind.The Lemurians lost this war, the last remaining Lemurians on Earth became the Terrans of the modern 25th century CE and the Arkonides Thora and Crest handed the Terrans their technological original heritage, a grand cycle in history was finished.After the war against the MdI, Lemurians themselves, ruling over the Tefrodian humans and all the other Andromeda civilizations with a genocidal and brutal iron fist and the defeat of the MdI, Rhodan and Atlan desired to righten what went so wrong in the relationship of the humans and non humans in the Andromeda Galaxy. The Maahk, once subjugated by the Lemurian descendants, the Tefrodians and the MdI became allies to the Terrans and were able to forgive the human Terrans for what the human Tefrodians once did to them.And Rhodan and his friends as well as the other Terrans? They never were angry on the missguided Halutians of the Lemurian-Halutian war era and kept the Terran Halutian friendship of the present century.Well, so much to the start of this series as a teeny tiny starter.I ended with the end of the famous MdI story arch ending with issue 299 out of the already more than 3070 issues released until the current week (as of 25th June 2020).Some In Universe Information (as of the 25th century CE):The Solar Empire (Solares Imperium in German)This is the unified galactic nation of the Terrans and their descendants like the Ertrusians living on a super earth or the Lilliputian like Siganese or the much Terran like Plophosians.Its a federal democracy with some central aspects.The head of state is the Grand Administrator (Großadministrator in German)The ruling body is the Solar Parliament.The currency is the Solar, a highly stable currency which became a lead currency in the Milky Way galaxy.The territory is about 5000 star systems in the inner areas plus some thousands in the outer regions of this compact albeit highly powerful empire. In addition, the Solar Empire has bases across the whole western parts of the Milky Way plus some in the Andromeda Galaxy.The Solar Fleet has some hundred of thousands of dangerously well armed space vessels up to a diameter of 2500 meters far surpassing the old Arkonides and even the direct Lemurian ancestors.The Mutant Corps, still the best “secret” weapon of the Terrans is effective and highly motivated as always and fully loyal to Rhodan and the Terran government.The Arkonide Empire (Tai’Ark-Tussan in Arkonide, Großes Imperium in German)This once was the dominating force in the Milky Way.It was a monarchic empire ruled by the Arkonide emperor (Tai Moas =Firs Great one / Begam = Supreme Commander) and there already were more than 440 emperors before Atlan became the last of the Arkonide emperors so far.The title of the Arkonide emperor has 35 lines of text on a letter formatted sheet of paper font Calibri, size ten points.I think, evil Terran emperor Philippa Georgiou from the Star Trek mirror universe (with her humble title collection of compared tho that of the Arkonide emperor) would be highly envious on the Arkonide emperor.“His most exalted million eyed highness, ruler over Arkon and the barren island, kissed by the wisdom, from the family of the worlds oldest, …, bla, bla, bla, … initiated in the mysteries of Dagor, ….. bla, bla, …….. has decided that …..”The Arkonides are white haired, red eyed humans who looks a bit Scandinavian albeit with a potential to get a Polynesian like tanned skin if they’re not aristocrats cultivating the pale skin of an aristocrat.Aristocrats are wearing their hair long.Atlan himself has a slightly tanned skin since he is often outdoor and after becoming the Lord Admiral of the USO, he fully rejected every bit of him being treated as an aristocrat, he wants to be treated like any Terran, any of his friends, he hates being treated as an arostocrat he is from his birth on.The central world is Arkon I (Gos Ranton = Crystal World) an unimaginable luxurious paradise for a decadent and noble society.The former military central world was Arkon III (Gor Ranton = War World) until it got destroyed in the mid 24th century by pirates.The capital trade world is Arkon II (Mehen Ranton = Trade World). It is highly populated, has gigantic space ports.All three worlds sharing the name Arkon orbited the Arkonide sun on the same orbit after being placed there by the Arkonides a few centuries before the birth of Atlan.
