With support from Ministry of Women and Child Development, Partners in Development Initiatives undertook this study to understand the plight of single mothers in the country. The objectives of the present study are to map the socio- economic profile of single mothers and understand the challenges and difficulties faced by them. The study was conducted in the four metropolitan cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata during the period December 2011 to March 2012.
