The US is not teaching China a lesson.It’s due to fear of the Chinese speed of progress and the possibility of surpassing the US as a world leader that the US took actions against China and Huawei.The US is doing to Huawei what they did to Toshiba in the 80s where Japan is the second largest economy threatening the US. The onslaught collapsed Japan’s economy.Source, LA times, Jul1 1987: Senate Votes to Ban All Sales by Toshiba in U.S.Senate Votes to Ban All Sales by Toshiba in U.S.However, Huawei is unlike Toshiba.In Huawei’s case, the US fabricated a lie to smear Huawei and coerce EU and its allies to stop using Huawei or the US would stop sharing intelligence with them among other sanctions. Bullying will never work for long, sooner or later the smaller countries will rebel.Finally, unlike Japan, China has a very big domestic market, Huawei’s technology was evaluated by some EU countries to be freed from espionage contrary to what the US claimed and Huawei is a very progressive company.Hence, my evaluation is Huawei will survive and get even more advanced.

How cheap everything is. All my Aussie friends look like pack horses, schlepping it through the airport with their newly purchased North Face jackets etc.How green it is. Most Aussies have a TV impression of the US. That means they think it will mostly look like LA or Vegas. (inland California incidentally looks very similar to the Australian bush). They are surprised to see 50 foot trees covering most of the east coast and Pacific Northwest.How ugly L.A. is - with the exception of Detroit, LA is probably the ugliest nastiest city in the US. Don’t get me wrong, you should still go. Go see how disappointing Hollywood and Beverly Hills are. However, if you really want to experience a beautiful California, you need to get north of Malibu or south of Laguna.How useless public transport is - unless you plan to be in NYC or San Francisco, don’t plan to be using public transport on your vacation to the USHow friendly Americans are - Americans are generally very friendly in casual interactions. Need help on subway in NYC? just ask a local - even New Yorkers, not particularly known for their friendliness, are pretty kind and helpfulHow nobody cares about your accent - American, English, South African accents are noticeable in Australia. In the US, unless you get off the beaten path to small town, USA, don’t be surprised if no one asks you where you’re from or comments on your accent. Places like NY, Washington DC, San Francisco, there’s just so many people from all over the world, that foreign accents are all too common.Sales Tax - you know that North Face jacket you just purchased? make sure you plan to add 5% to the ticket price when you get to the ticket counter. A bizarre and annoying part of retail in the US.Tipping - you’re expected to tip the waiters and waitresses at restaurants and bars. 25% - only in NYC, 15–20% everywhere else, 0-10% - you were a bad server, and this is how I’m letting you know, 0% - don’t plan to eat that restaurant again, oh and I’m cheap rude and stingy person.Portion Sizes - would you like a 1/2 liter cup of coke to go with your 24 ounce steak?How safe it is - like most countries, there are places “you just don’t go” . Unless you’re wandering around Compton at 1 am or South Chicago with dollar bills strapped to your clothes, the US is pretty safe.
