PDF Editor FAQ
I’m 16, living with my parents and siblings in the UK. My dad took my phone and read through my messages. Am I wrong to be upset at my dad for saying he 'reserves the right to read everything I write until he dies'?
No, you aren't wrong. He's being invasive and unfair. You are old enough under UK law to leave home, get married (with parental consent), have a job, join the Army, have sex, etc. You should have your privacy respected. However, unless you're ready to move out, you probably have to put up with it. If your mother is more reasonable, ask if she'll intervene. It's possible that she will succeed in getting your dad to see reason.Good luck.
Why are most army soldiers so young?
Soldiers are young for several reasons. To clarify, soldiers must be at least 18 years old (17 with parental consent) to join.Kids grow up wanting to be in the military. As soon as they can many do.The military can pay for college. That lends well to a post-high school activity.Joining the military for many is an act of rebellion against their parents. It's better to do something so physical when you are younger and your body is stronger.People who are older tend to be set in their careers with families. Those sorts of people tend to be less interested in disrupting that life they've created for themselves.Recruiters target the younger populations. They go to high schools and malls, among other locations. There are lots of reasons, many of which I've ignored completely. That's just my 60-second answer.
Why do some people call 17-year-olds "kids" when they're young adults?
Three reasons come to mind:1/ Behavior even if adequate to the physical age. To someone in their 40s, 50s, 60s... a 19 year old is a kid. Heck someone who is 25, is a kid. LOL.2/ Behavior irrespective of physical age. A 19 yr old who has tantrums, gets angry, can't share or play nice.. is a kid. Some people never grow up.3/ Society is CONFUSED. Where I live you can havesex when you are 16drive supervised when you are 16 (presumably you have the judgment required to have sex unsupervised, maybe even make a child.. but you don't have good judgment required to drive unsupervised... whaaaaaat?). Oh you can also get married in Ontario at 16 with parental consent. Married! Ha!!enroll in the army with parental consent - ie learn to shoot people - at 17. Because a 17 year old has judgment to shoot at people? Really? (I think it is because 17 year old mostly boys have no judgment of their own and can be taught to shoot at anybody.. but that is perhaps cynical of me)vote and drive unsupervised by 18. OK so you have been having sex for 2 years (maybe you are now a parent, or you get to visit clinics for some penicillin), AND can shoot people (for the right cause, naturally), so now you can finally VOTE!! Wow. The inter-galactically complex metaphysical problem of which POLITICIAN to vote for, is now within our grasp. Look mom, I can VOTE!!! Oh you can also get married at 18 without parental consent. But you can't buy beer and cigarettes yet. No, that would require greater judgment. You're not ready for the hard risks in life yet.but wait! In my province, you have attained age of majority at 18. You are now a legal adult. Congrats!buy beer, wine, and cigarettes by age 19. See, after making three children, driving, shooting and voting, getting married... you now are allowed to have a drink and a smoke. We're all grown up now, baby!No wonder the kids don't take us adults seriously on occasion...
