At least one of you has to be a resident of the state in which you file. Each state has its own rules on what makes a “resident”.In Nevada, one of you needs to “live” here for 6 consecutive weeks. You must provide a notarized affidavit from another resident attesting to having physically seen ypu here at least once each of those weeks. There are extended stay hotels here whose managers cheerfully provide that service, for a fee. Or, if you already know someone who lives here, then that person can be your witness.You don't need a lawyer, especially in your case where everything is done except the paperwork. Clark County provides all the forms online. Fill them out, take them to the Family Court building, pay the fee, and they'll mail you the final decree after it's recorded. Mine took 10 calendar days from filing (on a Friday afternoon) until the final decree was in my mailbox.Apparently, Alaska, South Dakota, and Washington state have no residency requirements, but Alaska has a 30 day waiting period, and South Dakota is 60 days from the date of filing.And none of them ate as much fun as Nevada.
