PDF Editor FAQ
What crazy experience have you had at an airport or on a flight?
Crazyyyyyy is just understatement..So my story is like...Travel Date: 31 August 2017I had to travel XXXX from Delhi to attend Interview, my flight timings was 9:55 PM from Delhi Terminal 1D and the good thing was, I got the confirm flight ticket around 5:44 PM same day from the company, while I was in my office, which is in Noida (Distance between My office to Delhi 1D - Only 32 kms)I was not able to leave office before 7:30 PM due to back to back meetings and some important work and to make the situation more worse, it was raining cats and dogs in Noida/Delhi.Finally Started from Office around 7:45 PM.. Time left in Departure 2 hour 10 Mins. Called my brother to come One Particular Spot, say P1 (For local ppl - it's Ghazipur Modh), so that he could drop me at Airport. Distance between my office to that Spot - Only 7 kms).Due to rain, water logging and traffic jam every where but finally reached P1 at 8:20 PM.. Time left in Departure 1 hour 35 MinsBrother stuck in traffic and reached P1 at 8:25 PM.. (Every passing minute was making things worse). Time left in Departure 1 hour 30 Mins, distance to cover approx 25 kmsWe started for Airport, checked Google Maps for shortest route but thanks to rain minimum time was coming as 95 mins.. F*************We Changed our plan, decided to travel via Airport Express Metro from ShivaJi Metro Station till Aerocity Metro Station. Distance between P1 to ShivaJi Metro Station - 14 kmsAs I was frequent Metro traveler, I knew the metro departure timings 8:48 PM, 9:03 PM, 9:18 PM from ShivaJi Stadium. Thanks to raining, plus rush hour and after jumping red lights we reached ShivaJi Metro Station at 9:01 PM.Ran as fast as possible, security check crossed, entry point crossed, heard that train arrived, running from ground to -1 level, then blanked for few seconds - where are f***king stairs for platform. Someone pointed - that side, ran again, reached stairs - heard doors closing sound. DAMN !! Doors CLOSED !! cursing weather and delhi traffic.Immediately searched for Uber/Ola but no luck, decided to wait for next metro. Finally metro came at 9:18, went in and sat and started calculating the time. 6 mins later, reached Dhaula Kuan metro station. One more station to go.Sent SMS to the concered HR: "Hi A*****, Time is running too much faster than metro. Not sure whether I will be able to catch my flight."SMS Received: "All the best, hope you catch it."Next Station -> Delhi Aerocity, got down from metro, time 9:31 PM.... Time left in Departure 24 Mins, distance to cover between 4.5 - 5 kms.Came out of Station, Asked One Auto Driver whether he would go to airport, he said No. Asked another Cab Driver whether he would go to airport, he said Yes for 300 bucks... I was like f*** Y**, for hardly 5 kms distance you are asking for 300 bucks. But I had no option, agreed but asked him to drive as fast as possible. No matter how fast you're, you're in delhi and traffic will not show you any sympathy. Finally reached Airport at 9:44 PM. Ran like mad for entry, entry point check done - ran towards Airline counter and showed my ticket.Girl at counter:"Sorry Sir, You're late, we can't do anything now."Me: "Please mam, i stuck in rain and traffic, help me I have to catch the flight."Girl: "Sorry Sir."Suddenly, I remembered the Best Thing I did on that day - "WEB CHECK-IN"..I said.. "Mam, i done WEB CHECK-IN!"Girl: "Hurry Up Sir, Departure Gate is about to close. You need to go through with Security Checking as well."Inner Me - Bhaag Puneet Bhaag (Run Puneet Run)Ran again, jump 3-4 people in queue while saying "Sorry, My Flight is about to leave in 5 mins Sorryyyyyyyy".Security Check Done, Ran towards the Departure Gate, reached there, handed web check-in printout to the airline executive and his dialogues were "Enjoy your journey, please go in that bus"Phewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, went in bus, then aeroplane and messaged to HR "Finally, able to catch flight and hope will be able to catch tomorrow's interview questions too :)"(Realized the Value of WEB CHECK-IN)Attaching the ticket Snapshot
What is it like to go through airport security in Israel?
In short: Nail biting and interesting. This happened on 27th of June, 2018 i.e 2 days before!I was bit surprised there were no check while I was entering Israel. While exiting the country I had the experience of a life time. I have been to US, UK, a few EU countries, UAE, Singapore but never seen or experienced such kinds of security checks.Short background of me and my trip: I am an Indian national who travelled to Israel for 10 days with my three German friends. There are many security stages you have to pass through before boarding the flight when entering Ben Gurion airport. I explain three main stages which I find interesting.First, our car was asked to stop at the entrance check post of the airport. The following questions were asked; Her: Where are you guys from? We: GermanyHer: Can I see your Passports? We: *shown*Her: what is the purpose of your visit to Israel?*toldHer: Where did you go in Israel? We: Tel aviv, Jerusalem, Eilat and many placesHer: How long were you guys in Israel? We: 10 daysHer: are you flying back to Germany? We: YesHer: So where did you go in Israel? We: *in our mind “didn’t we answered the question before?” but we repeated the answer. Her: Alright, have a safe flight. Now at the check in area, my German friends went ahead of me. They were asked many questions but they were cleared and went to check-in subsequently for the normal baggage scanning. When it was my turn, she received my passport, then asked; Her: What is your father’s name?Me: *saidHer: What is your mother’s name?Me: *saidHer: Where do they come from?Me: IndiaHer: What holidays do you celebrate?(*I think she wanted to know my religion )Me: Christmas, Easter and New Year. She browsed through my passport and she stopped at UAE stamps. I had 6 entry and exit stamps! Her: Why did you visit UAE?Me: My brother lives there. Her: what’s his name?Me *toldHer: Does he live alone?Me: No, he is lives with his wife. Her: What’s her name?Me: *toldHer: What company does he work for?Me: (I forgot the name of the company so I said something)Her: When was last time you visited UAE?Me: June 2017 oh sorry actually November 2017.Her: Oh November 2017?Me: Yes!She went to her supervisor she said something; her supervisor came to me and told me “Sir you are late to the airport. You have to go through yet another check. I can’t assure you that you can catch your flight”. I looked at my watch, I had more than one hour and quickly realized, I am going to be ripped! Then she pasted world renowned flashy yellow 6 sticker on backside of my passport.(*picture copied from google)When it was time to pass the real security, the airport staff escorted me to the right after she saw my yellow barcode sticker, she also asked me my flight time. I told her “in an hour”. She raised her eyebrows with a shrug.A gentleman asked me to empty my pockets and take off my belt, put everything on a tray. Then I was asked to take all of my electronics out of my carry-on bag, laptop, camera, batteries, chargers and all liquid items and he put it in a baggage scanner. With pockets empty, I passed through the metal detector. Nothing was heard, so you see I was not a threat? But no. I still needed to pass a second round X-Ray scanner. Before that he asked me to bring all the scanned trays and my small cabin luggage to a table and brought few more trays. He started to empty my small backpack and cabin trolley bag while he asked me to take a seat in front of the table. At this time, I saw an Egyptian guy (from his passport??) being searched thoroughly. He was wearing thick ripped jeans. Officers suspecting he was hiding something beneath his jeans. He was patted many times yet the officers were not convinced. Then a tourist looking guy -something like in the picture below- came into security area and spoke with full authority. Yeah he was an undercover officer. I saw him speaking through a microphone hidden beneath his t-shirt. For his part he took the guy to a small room and came out with the jeans. They kept the jeans for three scans and finally they were convinced and let him go. But I was bit petrified and hoped I would not have to go through a strip search.(*from google)Then they called me. (‘Yeah it’s my turn!’) Went through the x-ray scan and a few pats on my shoulders and my arms. Thank god I was clear, time for my belongings. They used an explosive material detector to scan every single item. Seriously, every single piece from my bag. My headphones, charger, camera, books, souvenirs and even my underwear. He switched on 6 detector machines to accelerate the process so that I can get my flight. Tens and twenties of green signal from the detector did not dispel his doubts. He used the explosive detector over 50 times unwearied. Still unconvinced, he collected some stuff like camera, toiletry bag, charger etc and put it in the scanner. Finally I was cleared, he asked me to hurry up to the gate as my flight will depart in 15 mins. He told me he already spoke with the flight crew so they would let me to board the plane. Thankfully the shuttle bus which brings passengers to the flight was waiting with few passengers on board.I adored my time in Israel, though I received a "6" passport sticker at Ben-Gurion and intense security check!!
What's your worst Air India experience?
Among the deluge of negative experiences people have had with Air India, let me add a good one. I flew on the Chicago-Bangalore sector on an Air India flight in December 2017. I had a stopover and an aircraft change scheduled at the Delhi airport – Air India’s regional hub.The custom rules are a little tricky. If the stopover/layover location (in my case Delhi, India) happens to be in the same country as your final destination (in my case Bangalore, India) then the stopover location is considered as the first port of entry and you are supposed to carry out your immigration formalities as well as the customs formalities at that location. Being the naïve (and in this case, a little hungover) traveler that I am, I missed out on this little technicality. Post landing at the Delhi airport, I went straight to the traveler lounges post the immigration clearance and spent the next few hours gorging on the free food. When the time came for me to check-in for the next flight with barely over 45 minutes left for departure, the officer behind the check-in counter was the first to comment on the lack of any luggage with me. This is how the conversation wentAir India Employee (AIE): Sir, I see you are an International transit passenger. Where is you check-in luggage?Me: Check-in luggage? I checked it in at the Chicago airport. Shouldn’t it be flown directly to Bangalore for me to collect?AIE: No sir, Delhi being the port of entry, the luggage needs to collected and the customs clearance done before being checked-in again for further travel within India. This was announced in the flight.Me (by now realizing that I have made a big mistake and trying to bluff my way through): No. It was definitely not announced in my flight.AIE (smiling): Sir, then how come you are the only passenger so far who has had this issue?Me (accepting defeat): I understand I goofed up. Can anything be done now?AIE: Sure sir, let me check. He then called one of his colleagues to man the counter while he offered to come with me to the baggage carousel to check for the luggage. Please note that is not an easy process. We had to go the CISF team (the personnel handling security at all Indian airports) and enter multiple details to gain access. Once there, the aforementioned Air India employee reached out to a lady designated “Floor Supervisor” and told her about the issue. She checked some manifest and informed us that my luggage indeed was deemed unclaimed and had been sent back for some security screening before being stored. The Air India employee, who by then had decided to be my savior for the evening asked her if there was a way to get the luggage back since me, the owner, had come back and had laid a claim for it. A few more calls later, I was informed that my luggage had been tracked and would be sent back as soon as a baggage carousel gets available. Fifteen anxious minutes later, I had received my luggage. However, by this time, my flight had departed. The Air India employee walked back with me to the check-in desk, had a word with some of his (presumably) senior colleagues and gave me a happy surprise. They issued a boarding pass for the next Air India flight to Bangalore free of cost and as an added favor, bumped me up to the Executive class. The helpfulness shown by the multiple Air India employees I came across that day was quite commendable. I generally avoid Middle-Eastern carriers and always used to take some carrier flying through Europe for my journeys. However, I am seriously thinking considering Air India for my travels going ahead.
