Even if they get delegated, it is still women dealing with the delegations.It is the woman’s family who spends on the lavish weddings even if no dowry is involved. It is the woman who is expected to leave her job and family to live with the man’s. His family gets a say in her life while he gets royal treatment from her family. The basic inequality of a marriage cannot be denied at all, in India.It is the woman who is expected to leave her job and follow the husband wherever he moves. Since this is the future, most women themselves as well as their parents, don’t bother to invest in education and careers at all. It is a self-fulfilling prophecy of sorts.As per Hindu marriage Act, the provision of alimony is gender neutral and yet, it is almost always women, asking for alimony in case of divorces.A man can also claim alimony if he can show to the court that -He or his family spent the most in marriage. He made sacrifices to his career for the family. He left jobs to take care of children. He has suffered major setbacks in his career owing only to the smooth functioning of his family. Chances of him getting jobs are lower and he has no other source of income.When, men can show all this, they do and will get alimony because the law is gender neutral.Dowry is illegal because it is extortion.
