<Rant>I finally get to rant and be a drama queen, I better not break a nail whilst typing this one out.I have too many to mention but I am going to list the top 3 annoyances.Lets beginThe Delusional Stripper - Waltz in with an over-sized hoodie on, gets pumped up while checking around for the potential ladies…Once he feels like he has reached super saiyan levels…Removes the hoodie and starts to flex in the mirror while looking at the ladies around…that’s right ladies I am ripped! Dude we share a mirror lets not make it uncomfortable for everyone around you. It is usually a guy like thisThe Souped Up Barbie - You all know her, she is the color coded, Hair straightened, shocking lipstick , eyelash extended girl that comes to the gym and ask the fit guys for gym advice while flaunting her itsy bitsy clothes. I really have no time for your nonsense.The Bicep Curl Bench Press duo - I don’t even know why I am annoyed at them, these are the smart guys, the one guy loads up 120kgs bench press and the spotter, bicep curls the 120kg. That’s a compound movement folks!</Rant>

Sorry, buddy. Ya missed it.Q&A sites go through an arc. They start off and people ask The Big Questions. They get answers, and people talk about the answers, and everybody gets chummy. It’s fun to be there, so smart people show up, and lots of good information gets pumped in. Everybody remarks how awesome it is.Sooner or later all of the Big Questions have been answered (with the same answers people have had for thousands of years), repeatedly. So have all of the other answerable questions, the ones in that narrow band where there actually are answers (unlike the Big Questions) but the answers aren’t better answered by a search engine.So people start finding other ways to amuse themselves. You get more and more politics and relationship stuff, topics which are constantly new but generally unproductive. The site attracts attention from people who re-ask old questions or have unanswerable questions (such as needing a specialist or involving lots of detail). When it gets big enough, it starts attracting trolls, and that makes everybody cranky.The site reinvents itself a few times, hoping to restore The Good Old Days, but that alienates the long-timers and doesn’t restore freshness. Eventually it becomes known solely for stupid questions, and gradually peters out.That “Golden Age” was about 8 years ago, when the site was new and Silicon Valley was pumping money and attention into it. They’ve gone through a few reinventions, and without meaning to get all rose-colored-glasses, they haven’t stumbled on anything that reinvigorates it.This one lasted longer than most. They attracted a lot of really smart people early on, and their moderation and user controls keep the active trolling to a manageable level. This arc happens even if they didn’t want to monetize the site, but eventually they had to, and that sure didn’t help. (I can’t say if there’s a better way, but the way they chose invites a lot of dumb questions, and their moderation and filtering techniques can’t really cope.)I can’t rule out that the next reinvention will be the one that works. For that matter, the QPP is really popular with a lot of people, both the askers and answerers. I don’t consider that “amazing”, but there’s no reason it has to appeal to me. Or you. If you’re asking this question you probably would have preferred the “Golden Age”, but that’s over and it’s not coming back. Not at this site, at any rate. But the Samsara of the Internet means that it will happen again, some day, in some new form that I can’t even guess at.
