Is IIIT Naya Raipur a good college?

Well. It's going to be a very long answer. My humble request is to read it completely.IIIT Naya Raipur is an institute established by the Govt of Chhattisgarh and NTPC. It is a UGC approved autonomous institute. It is an International Institute of Information Technology, unlike the other IIITs. An institute run under the mentor-ship of IIIT Hyd and our Director Sir Dr. Pradeep K Sinha who was with C-DAC- It picked up tremendously well in the last 4 years. So let me cover the major points of the institute.Location:It is located in Naya Raipur, about 25kms from the city of Raipur. The institute is well connected to the railway station by the BRTS Bus Service. You have a bus to the railway station every 30 mins. It is 4kms away from Sector 27 which is a mini-market. So you have no problem with the basic needs. A pleasant location with a lot of trees.Cut-offSo there are 3 branches- CSE, ECE, and DSAI. Each branch comprises of 60 seats each50% of the seats are reserved for the people who reside in Chattisgarh. This is Chattisgarh quota15% of the seats are reserved for the people whose parents work in NTPC. Only the mother or father must work in NTPC for this quota. Relations are not allowed35% of the seats are given through JoSAA and CSAB. This implies 63 out of 180 seats are in all India category. Now, this seems a little unfair but the talent which comes out in the above two quotas is equally good.At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what your JEE Mains rank is. The topper might be bunking classes and the low ranker can listen to all the classes carefully. Both the topper and the low ranker burn the midnight oil before the exam. So once you get in, it doesn’t matter what your rank is.Campus Facilities:Our Campus is a humble 25-acre plot consisting of the Academic Building, Hostels, and other facilities. We have facilities for sports like Cricket, Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, TT. We also have an indoor gym and an outdoor gym. We also have an upcoming Swimming Pool and also another Football ground. We have a canteen which is open till midnight and also a mini supermarket. Recently, a Salon- Cafe and a Biryani Place also were inaugurated. We also have a guest house beside the director's house.Hostels are a fun Place Actually!!!!We have 4 hostels- Bose House, Bhabha House, Ramanujan House and Raman House.Bose House is the hostel for the new kids. All the first years are put in here.Raman House is the hostel for the girls of all the years. 1st and 2nd years have twin sharing while the last years have single rooms each.Bhabha House is the hostel for 4th years and for some of the second years also.Ramanujan House is the hostel for the third years and also for the remaining 2nd years.Bhabha and Ramanujan have balconies attached for each of its rooms.Ramanujan being the biggest among the rest is the biggest hostel in the whole of Raipur.Bose and Raman are the old hostels. You have twin sharing of rooms for the first two years and then you get your own rooms from the 3rd year. But having a roommate is fun actually!!!Hostels are a fun place at IIITNR. In my view, the 1st Yr boys hostel is a very good place. It is active at 3:00 am also. Believe me, You will have the time of your life at the hostel. So regarding the Internet Speed, I won’t be telling you.. see it for yourself 😛😛😛😛Mess food is average. This is the same everywhere in India. But trust me, there was never a case of food poisoning to date. The menu looks delicious but you will eventually get bored of it.We have two badminton courts and one TT table in our hostel. They are open to all 24hrs.Fee Structure:The tuition fee is approximately 75000 per semester. The total fees for 1 semester including hostel, mess and SAC fee is approximately 1 lakh. Also, the fee of the 1st semester is around 1.3 lakh. For the subsequent semesters, it is around 1 lakh.Academics:We have one of the best course structure in the country since we follow IIIT Hyd.We are taught the required skills in the first semester itself. We don’t have subjects like Drawing, Chemistry, and Physics. This procedure is followed so that by the end of 2nd year, we get the required skills.Coming to faculty, we have Doctorates from premier institutes like IIT Roorkee, IIT Kanpur and IIT Delhi. So no problem with the faculty.Even though the faculty are good, you still will depend on YouTube, NPTEL and other online sources for your exams and assignmentsClubs:Technical Clubs include AIML, Technical Society of Coders, Community of Electronics, Cipher Cell and E-CellCultural Clubs include Capriccio (Music Club and Band), Igniters (Dance Club), Drama Club and Indradhanush (Art Club)Literary clubs include Debate Club, Poetry Club, Quiz Club etc.The sports club is emerging in this institute. We have an internal sports competition called Aarambh where members of each team compete with each other. We have our institute magazine Fenestra where articles and gossips about the institute are published. It is also a student-run community.Internships:You will given guidance about internships in the first year itself. You will have to do your groundwork for that. Our seniors have bagged internships in some cool places likeNanyang Technological University- SingaporeNational University of SingaporeUniversity of MalayaIIM LucknowUniversity of NottinghamIIT BombayIIT KanpurThese are the results in just 4 years of the establishment of the institute.Placement and Higher StudiesThe first batch of the institute was 100% placed with the average package being 6.2l for ECE and 8.2l for CSE.The highest package for CSE is 28.3l and for ECE is 10l.The majority of these companies have offered six-month internships with internships getting converted into full-time offers on completion.A senior from the first batch, Siddhant Sir, went for his masters in Engineering Management at Cornell University USA.We also have people who got ranks of 11 and 256 in GATE.There are people who got in IIMs like IIM Kashipur and IIM Udaipur. The first International offer was from FireVisor System PTE. Ltd, Singapore with the package being 28.3l p.a. Pooja Jaiswal Mam bagged this offer. In the 2016 batch, the placements have improved to a great extent. The highest placement was 43l p.a for CSE and 13l p.a for ECE. The average package for CSE is 9.12l and for ECE its 7.6l. On the whole, there was 100% placement with the average package being 8l p.a.So placements will definitely improve in the next four years. That’s for sure!!Now coming to the Pros:It is a IIIT with its own campus. It has one of the best course structure among the newly formed IIITs and NITsIt is the first institute in central India to introduce Data Science and Artificial Intelligence in B.Tech.The amount of exposure you will be getting is more than that of newer NITs. It will grow in the next 4 yearsSome cool companies like Deloitte, American Express and Hyperverge have visited our campus. It will be better in the upcoming yearsAnd Finally the cons:The biggest con is that there is no fee waiver for the batch 2019–2023.The same is to be followed for the upcoming batches also. It is least likely that you will receive the waiver. The previous batches were given this waiver as stated in the other answers. It depends on the effort of the individual through the guidance given. If it doesn’t happen, it will backfire.Academics become very hard right from the first semester. Many people burn the midnight oil to complete their assignments.Academic Burden is not distributed uniformly over the four years. It is not good compared to older NITs but it will win the race ultimately.. So patience pays. Some pictures are as followsThe 3d model of the institute……So Cheers!!!Edit 1:Since many people were asking how the hostel rooms look like, I am uploading a picture of my room which is currently in Bose HouseYou are given a bed, a table and a chair. For more pictures of the campus, please refer to this answer:https://www.quora.com/Does-IIIT-Raipur-have-a-permanent-campus?top_ans=232878921

Why are there so many gypsies in Europe compared to the Americas?

I guess they didn’t want to swim. :) They came by foot from India. Also, I imagine the Americans didn’t want them and their emigration was impossible. Even now, many say that some countries in Eastern Europe, although allies of USA, are not in Visa Waiver just because the Americans don’t want Gypsies. Doesn’t matter that Gypsies are only 5 percent of the population of those countries and the rest are whites.

Why are people from California so environment friendly?

In the 60s - 70s the Los Angeles (2nd largest population in the USA) basin was filled with a very bad smog problem; there were very few days with blue skies. In 1970 President Nixon allowed California a special waiver from the Clean Air Act. Normally a waiver allows you to a standard that is less than the required standard. This special waiver allowed California to have a higher emission standard than the federal standard. Los Angeles has more blue sky days than before, in the bad old days. The cars of today take in dirty air and actually cleans it, the air out of the tail is cleaner than the air that went in.Trump now wants to take California special waiver we have had for almost 50 years. What happened to states rights?California, 16 states, and Washington DC, use California Emission Standard; isn't this great for the environment? In 1969 there was an oil spill in Santa Barbara that really affected everyone's view on the environment. The first to feel the effects was the wildlife, there were people out there looking for birds and others cleaning them up, trying to save them. The fishing industry was affected. People could see on TV nationwide the oil waves coming on to the beach. This really affected California vision of the future and our place in the environment. At that time it was the largest oil spill in US history and this was also the beginning stages of mass media and TV.The tourist industry took a big hit in the region and this opened up the idea of how important the environment was for wild life and the tourist industry. The environment became a central part of California's identity and it needed to be protected for us, our children, our grand children, future generations and the real important tourism industry.California has not allowed any expansion of offshore oil field development since then and resist any attempts to do so.The oil spill increased all federal and state governments departments that had any thing to do with the environment, water quality, California Coastal Commission, etc., their importance and upped their visibility. People expected these government entities to do their jobs.Santa Barbara celebrates Environmental Rights Day on the anniversary of the oil spill. The spill led to the creation of the National Environmental Policy Act.The spill led to the creation of Earth Day.The future of California is its environment.California is a leader in renewable energy: wind, solar, biomass, hydroelectricity, and geothermal. California has closed all of its nuclear power plants and converted all of the power plants to natural gas (which has a smaller carbon foot print as opposed to oil).California has long had a recycling program of plastic, aluminum cans and glass bottles. When I was a kid, you could take a glass bottle to the store and get a nickle, just enough to buy some penny candies; yeah, old!California law encourages reuse of plastic bags at grocery stores, by charging 10 cents a bag.California has just passed a limited ban on plastic straws.I am a Californian, born in Southern California and raised in Northern California. I lived through all of this as a Californian. I remember the spill on TV. Always enjoyed going on HWY 101 in Santa Barbara and seeing the ocean and surrounding community built on the hills, it was beautiful and fun. I remember trips to LA and it was always smoggy. I've been in one fire, 1986 in Sonora CA (must have been a small one because, I could not find any information on that fire) and many earthquakes (Loma Prieta 1989). Living in this state made me an environmentalist, and I don't know how or why, it just happened. What was happening at that time, Vietnam War, protesting. The Civil Rights Movement, protesting. Watergate and President Nixon's resignation was a few years away. 1968 hippie summer of love in San Francisco had just passed. The Free Love movement was going on. This was a time of great social upheaval and many voices shouting and being heard by society and the government. The environment became another issue that needed to be addressed, many of our nations rivers were polluted and the water was unsafe for drinking, swimming, and boating. Any fish that could survive were not edible. Clean Water Act was passed in 1972 (many rivers have been cleaned up now). This was a time of great change in society.
