Concealed Carry Pistol Permit Application: Fill & Download for Free

I have a carry permit for 3 reasons.When I go to the range, something I do fairly regularly, I don’t have to worry about locking the gun in the trunk, with ammunition stored separately. I case my firearm, put it on the floorboard of the back seat next to my range bag that has my ammunition, and go happily on my way. If I am ever stopped, the first thing I would say to the officer is “Good afternoon officer. I have a carry permit and there are X unloaded cased guns in the backseat. How would you like to proceed?”.Second, it is far easier in NC to buy a gun on a whim if you have a CCW permit. Yes, I’ve bought a gun on a whim. Give the licensed FFL holder your permit and drivers license, fill out the form, wait 20 minutes and walk out with your new gun. If I buy something from an individual, all I have to do to make the transaction legal is show them a copy of my permit. If the seller is smart, they will take a picture of the permit on their phone so if someone ever asks if they had the proper documentation, they can say yes. That is not a legal requirement.The third reason is because when I got my permit 10+ years ago, it was easier in my county in NC to get a permit to carry a concealed weapon than it was get a pistol permit. When the CCW law was passed in NC, NC became a “shall issue” state. What this meant to me was that I could go to the sheriff’s office, get my finger prints taken, give the sheriff $90 and a copy of my CCW class graduation certificate and after a max of 90 days, my permit would be issued. The NC CCW law specified that if you had a CCW permit, you didn’t have to get a purchase permit to buy a pistol. To get a purchase permit in my county (Orange) at the time you had to:Go to the sheriff’s office to get the forms that had to be completed and notarized. The office only provided the forms between 10 and 2 Tuesday and Thursday. The forms were not on line.On the forms, you had to get the signature of two people that lived in Orange county that could attest to your good character. In addition to getting the appropriate signatures, your references had to accompany you to the sheriff’s office the first time you submitted an application for the permit. I had a few problems with this. The first was that although I live in Chapel Hill, everyone that I worked with and shot with lived either in Durham or Wake counties. I was uncomfortable going to my next door neighbor and saying “How about vouching for me for a pistol permit?” The second problem was getting a time when both my references and I could all go to the sheriff’s office in the middle of the work day. The third issue that I had was that the sheriff’s office had a policy at the time of only issuing a max of 2 permits a year.For me, the permit is mostly a matter of convenience. There have been a couple of times in the last 10 years that I carried on my person, but those were very unusual circumstances.

I don’t know if that Glock 19 was modified or simply well maintained and well broken in as a range rental gun, but I don’t believe I’ve ever shot that well with any of my own handguns, and some of them have been modified. I shot a grouping the shape and size of a long “C” with my thumb and forefinger in the lower left 10 and x rings (bad habit - I jerk the trigger - I now have a SIRT training pistol).The instructor didn’t even bother scoring. He’s got two arms and a rather nice suit jacket, most of the time, so his options are rather open for most concealed carry pistols.The President is indeed a citizen of the United States of America, and he can pass any background check by default. If you mark fail on the President’s background check, even for a legitimate reason, I suspect your career ends (possibly with a public dressing down by your superior for being ‘an idiot’ so everyone else knows what to do) and the application ends up on someone else’s desk until it passes.I’m not even sure if you could enforce the permit requirement against the President outside of DC. Who’s going to arrest him? I’ll give you a hint: if anyone does, it ends as well as it does for the person who would dare fail the President on a background check.For the President of the United States, the sentence ‘shall not be infringed’ is more true than it is for any other person.
