PDF Editor FAQ

What's a sentence that can trigger your entire country?

Nepal here.“Buddha was born in India.” This really triggers my Nepalis compatriots. Never say it to a Nepali unless you are looking for a fight. It is true that Buddha spent most of his life in places that are in India today and got his enlightenment there, but he was born in Kapilvastu, which is in Nepal today. That’s the only thing that matters to a lot of my compatriots. If someone famous and influential says this, there may be riots in the streets of our cities and bazaars.“Nepal is a part of India” OR “Nepal should join India” OR “India should annex Nepal.” This makes Nepalis really really angry. We Nepalis love our independence. We are mighty proud of the fact that we were never colonized. Even making such a suggestion is enough for my compatriots to blow their top. If someone famous and influential says this, there may be riots in the streets of our cities and bazaars.“Mt. Everest is in the north of India.” Many English textbooks published in India (and used in Nepal) in the past used to have this line and it used to make us really pissed off. To us Nepalis, Mt. Everest is in Nepal and that’s it. No nonsense like in the north of India or south of China (although the northern face does in fact belong to China).

What is something everyone should know?

There is Nepali community living in India. They speak Nepali language.Nepali speaking community in India is also known as GORKHAS.They have equal rights like the others Indians. They are also defender of our country(in Gorkha Regiment,Indian Army,etc)Motto(s)-“कांथर हुनु भन्दा मर्नु राम्रो”(Better to die than live like a coward)Captain of Indian football team SUNIL CHHETRI. I’m sure many people knows him, also he’s Nepali community but INDIAN.They shouldn’t be threatened in worst way if they say that they are Indian. In India, Nepali is listed in the 8th Schedule to the Constitution as an Indian language with official status in the state of Sikkim ,North east states including Assam, and in West Bengal's Darjeeling district.Image source:-GoogleNepali language is also printed in currency notes of India.I’m writting this because I am threatened multiples of times by many people, but I DGaF bcoz I’m Indian though feels sad sometimes.Hats off to Gorkhas.

Why is the Nepali media spreading hatred against India?

Not all Nepali media; only a few. Just like in every other country today, we are also afflicted with this disease called nationalism. Since Nepal is hemmed in from three sides by India (east, west and south), our brand of nationalism is almost entirely based on India-bashing. One can say that there is an undeclared competition among our nationalists. Anyone who wants to prove that he is a patriot begins and ends by bashing India, because he who can bash India the loudest is seen as the most ardent nationalist. This is the reason some sections of the Nepali media (but not all) are so critical of India. This is not a new trend. It was started by the autocratic royal government of Nepal in the 1960s. Scared that the newly independent India would annex Nepal like other princely states, the Nepali king began cultivating anti-India sentiment in the country. (Another strategy was to play the China card.) Soon, anti-India sentiment took root and became the main pillar of Nepali nationalism. But most of us are more sensible and pragmatic than those idiots, so our Indian friends should not take them too seriously.
