It seems that you are unaware of the dynamics of Indian Railways (IR). IR operates a very complex environment and has far too many challenges.First and foremost, it is the only method of ferrying people around at a low cost and millions of people depend upon IR to provide them a cheap and reliable means of transport. While IR schedules are not reliable at all, at least people get a cheap means of going places.European railways do not have the huge demand as seen by Indian Railways and they are quite expensive at most times unlike IR.Very few countries have a rail network as expansive as India. The resources (tracks) are meagre but the number of trains plying on them is huge. The typical Indian train has 16–18 coaches on an average and many have 23-24 coaches.Europe and elsewhere have dedicated lines for freight and passenger unlike India. In UK, London to Manchester (about 300km) take 2′ 20″ while a similar distance of New Delhi to Gwalior by the Gatiman Express takes 4′15″. This is precisely because of the congestion and track condition.While it is true that safety and maintenance lags behind in India, it is not because of lack of will or attitude. The traffic simply prevents such operations. The fact that railways run at a deficit of 43% year over year, it is a miracle the railways still run in India.The cost of the Second Class peak time ticket between London Euston to Manchester is £185 (about INR 17390). The similar distance to New Delhi to Gwalior by Gatiman Express Second Class AC Chair Car fare is INR 940. Is this even comparable?Edit (7-Nov-2018): BTW, the Gatiman Express fare includes mineral water, newspaper, breakfast and tea also.Trains which were superfast and have limited stops have been made to halt at many more stations. I can swear that they are no better in quality and comfort than our Humsafar Express or Tejas Express. Eurostar is of course very-very fast and that is the only difference.Humsafar Express Coach (Exterior and Interior) (Exterior is superb while interior is good).Euronight Express Coach (Exterior and Interior) (Slightly better cushioned berths and all are cabins)Tejas Express (Exterior and Interior) (Exterior is OK nowhere comparable to Eurostar but interior is far better).Eurostar (Exterior and Interior) (Well, exterior is much better, but interior is mundane).
