TT is a regular feature of Asian culture. In many locales you'll find cement tables outdoors used by everyone, regardless of the materials. As a sport, TT is often unparalleled. Children are recruited at a very early age to join camps for intensive training. These kids eat, sleep, talk and play TT 24/7/365. They drill endlessly. I saw one video of a Chinese camp where a little boy was nailing forehand after forehand as balls were tossed on the table by his mentor. This goes on for hours, every day. But it's not just TT on the agenda. There's all kinds of strengthening and endurance drills as well. There is nothing like these camps in the Western world. Even in those countries where TT rules supreme, the typical child is recruited relatively early to attend seasonal training courses, mixed with tournaments and exhibitions. As rigorous as these other lands train their young, none can hold a candle to the Chinese programs. Of late we are seeing hot competition from Korea and Japan, who are taking steps to bring their youth into competition at earlier ages than ever before. TT means much more to the Asians (and many others) than we could hope to understand in the USA. Please understand, I'm not writing about China or any other nation taking kids from their parents without consent. It's nothing like that. They treat TT with a reverence unmatched elsewhere.

First, consider it yet again.Let me put this straight: Army - and military in general - is not for everyone. It is a downright miserable place at worst. Consider the boot camp as a sick cross-breed of prison, kindergarten and mental asylum. You will be treated like a slave, you have to share the dorm with people you would like to avoid at any cost in the civilian life, and you begin to wonder why your parents bothered to give you a first name at all. You will move everywhere on the run, and there will always be a horrible hurry everywhere yet always too much time to wait.Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori must be the oldest lie there is. The second oldest is army will make you a man. No, it won’t. The third oldest lie are the recruiters themselves. Consider the recruiter as dishonest as a shady used cars salesperson.And, by sweet lord God, do not enlist if you have some daydreams of military heroism and becoming the next G.I. Joe! Consider not only the fact that you may get killed, but consider also the fact you may get maimed for life and lose limb(s) or your eyesight. If you have brainwashed yourself with the video games or something else, get real. It is nothing like that.Second, if you are really wise, enlist to Air Force instead. You will find things there much more challenging, reasonable and sensible tasks than as a grunt. If you decide military isn’t for you, you still may learn skills (like aeroplane mechanic) which are hard cash in the civilian life.Your mother has a really good reason to worry about you. She has carried you, born you, taken care of you and loves you. War is a thing where people fight and die, and those who don’t, will come back with a wound in their souls. Be prepared for that as well. You may be mobilized without your consent.When you sign the contract, you basically sell your soul to Devil. He will own mine till I make 60. You relinquish all your human rights, your civil rights, your privacy and dignity. They will own you, your mind, your body and your a55. Let me put this straight: you will never be the same person when you go in and when you come out.Okay, you have read so far and still want to do it. Ask yourself: why do you want to do it? My own reason was that I come from a more or less military family, my youth was tumultous and my dad suggested it might do me good. It went horribly right.If you still want to do it, remember be all you can be is no lie. You really can be everything you are able to. You will learn managerial skills, leadership, demanding tasks and skills, and if you are really bright, even make it as an officer. If you are still in school or college, consider ROTC. Never leave your school unfinished. The better you fare in the school, the more doors it will open.
