It’s at the beginning of the movie, where you’re looking along the gunbarrel of an assassin’s gun. James Bond (played by Sean Connery) walks along, into the circle of the barrel. Suddenly, he turns, points his pistol and shoots.Remember? Of course you do. Except you don’t. That wasn’t Sean Connery. It was veteran English stuntman Bob Simmons, whose Image was used in those two movies.Couldn’t they find a Scottish stuntman?The real first James Bond in the modern canon - Bob SimmonsAlso in From Russia With Love, when Bond and Tatiana get on the Orient Express, the train passes a man standing in a field. (Cubby) Broccoli.A fine figure of a man.Again in Moonraker, you’ll see a cameo by Melinda Maxwell (Lois Maxwell’s daughter), as one of Hugo Drax’s “super humans”She’s on the right.In The Living Daylights, when Kara Milovy plays with the Orchestra, John Barry, the famed Bond movie composer is conducting the Orchestra.In Licence to Kill, Wayne Newton makes a cameo as Professor Joe Butcher, a corrupt Telethon compere, who supports Franz Sanchez’s drug business.And you thought they’d never get him out of Vegas.In Goldeneye, Minnie Driver has a cameo as Irina, Zurovsky’s mistressAnd she sings so well, too. Electro, Venom, the Lizard, Dr. Octopus and the Green Goblin have all been done.I’d say Morbius would be a great villain.Peter Parker may hang with the Avengers on his free time, but school is still a nightmare. Being a science geek may be cool in Silicon Valley but in Queens, he’s still a freak. So when he meets fellow teen science geek Michael Morbius at the Hardy Science Foundation, a friendship quickly forms. Michael is kind and brilliant and supportive, a little brother figure to Peter. Michael’s beautiful and equally brilliant cousin, Felicia Hardy (heiress to the Hardy Foundation) could make a priest regret his vows.Then comes the accident. Michael gets hit by a car and is in a coma. A desperate Peter creates a serum based on his own blood. Injecting it secretly into his dear friend Michael, the serum wakes up Michael and everything seems to be fine. Peter, to the rescue.Then Michael is bitten by a bat and becomes Morbius, the Living Vampire. Consumed by his thirst for blood, Morbius preys on the innocent people of New York city. Weirdly enough, Michael has found he enjoys being an alpha predator. And the blood he craves most is the Spider, blood that will supercharge him.Peter hunts his former best friends, knowing he must stop him and hoping he can cure him, correctly this time.Joined on the hunt is the beguiling Black Cat, who seems equally devoted to Michael, but the chemistry between the Spider and the Cat is too much to ignore.Since they are meant to be kids, I’d cast.David Mazouz as Michael MorbiusOdeya Rush as Black Cat/Felicia Hardy.

A worthwhile first entry of the Bond series! It’s a quite dated, and contains behavior that would be considered unacceptable today; however it is definitely worth your time if you are a fan of action/spy thrillers and curious to see where the series started.Sean Connery was perfectly cast as James Bond here, though it was initially controversial, since he was originally envisioned to look like David Niven or Hoagy Carmichael. However, his interpretation of the character (aided by director Terrence Young), set the stage for every other actor to follow in his footsteps. Smart, sexy, and smooth. He can be making love to you one moment, and be kicking your ass in the next.The plot of the film is unnecessarily convoluted. All you need to know is that James Bond is sent to Jamaica to investigate the disappearance of a fellow British agent. The trail leads him to the underground lair of Dr. No, who intends to sabotage the launching of an American rocket.While the film plods a little at times, it was mostly enjoyable, thanks to the editing, which gives it a nice pace. Most of Connery’s Bond films have excellent editing, courtesy of Peter Hunt. The one’s that aren’t done by him suffer in comparison (most notably in Thunderball).Ursula Andress plays Honey Rider, and is an absolute goddess in this film. It would go on to become her most iconic role. Felix Leiter is also played by Jack Lord in this film. He would go on to start the tradition of a new actor taking up the role in every film up until License to Kill.Much of the trademarks from later Bond films can be seen here. The opening title sequence is a little convoluted, but it contains bits of pieces of the iconic opening sequences that we know and love. There is also the trope of an evil genius who spells out his evil plan to Bond.The weakest part of Dr. No is the title character himself, played by Joseph Wiseman. While he looms over the whole movie as a mysterious and menacing figure, all of that goes away after he makes his first appearance.Then you have the final sequence, involving a battle sequence and his defeat at the end, all of which lack the drama and excitement that came before.Although Dr. No may exist squarely in the middle of the pack when it comes to the quality, this one stands out greatly, as the one that started it all.
