What kind of accountability do churches have regarding the use of their members' donations?

Churches are typically tax-exempt under IRS section 501(c)(3). http://www.irs.gov/charities/charitable/article/0,,id=96099,00.html In order to maintain this tax exempt status, the IRS has certain accounting and reporting rules: www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p1771.pdfIRS Publication 1771, Charitable Contributions–Substantiation and Disclosure Requirements, explains the federal tax law for organizations such as charities and churches that receive tax-deductible charitable contributions and for taxpayers who make contributions. There are recordkeeping and substantiation rules imposed on donors of charitable contributions and disclosure rules imposed on charities that receive certain quid pro quo contributions. It is common for churches that fail to comply to lose their tax exempt status. In June of 2011, more than 3,000 Kansas non-profits lost their status due to failure to comply with IRS filing requirements. http://cjonline.com/news/2011-06-13/local-state-nonprofits-lose-tax-exempt-status#.Tp28Lr-Ch9kI was unable to find good information online about oversight of churches and their use of donations. Some churches apparently do not release any information on this to anyone. MinistryWatch.com http://ministrywatch.com/ reports on the statements made by various Christian churches regarding their finances, giving each church a letter grade.

Do you believe that to really discover your full potential, you have to accept rejection?

When I wrote my first book in 2005, I was extremely excited to become a published author soon. When I send the book proposal to almost a dozen publishers, I was wondering what would I say, if all of them accepted my manuscript?I did not have to go through to trouble of explaining to my publishers because everyone rejected my book.I was disappointed, but I had the confidence that what I write is good and useful to people.I started a website www.aatmicscience.org and started publishing my writing on that (who can stop that?). Hardly a few people visited, but I kept writing one or two articles every week.Soon I discovered another website www.ezinearticle.com which published articles free of copyright. I used to write around two articles in a week. I was thus able to publish by around 500 articles by 2011 published in different forums.I wrote my next book on ‘Spiritual Intelligence’ only in 2011. I send it again to more than half a dozen publishers. However, this time, my expectations were more realistic. I was expecting rejections. Fortunately, in 2012, one publisher ‘Wisdom Tree’ accepted my book for publication. Thus my first book ‘Practising Spiritual Intelligence’ was published in 2013 and my journey as a published author started.Thereafter, I published ‘The Secret Red Book of Leadership’ (2015) and ‘Myths are Real, Reality is a Myth’ (2017) and ‘GST Made Simple’ (2017). I am hoping to publish two more books in next few months. If I would have not been willing to face rejection, there is no way, I could have become a published writer by now.Rejection is extremely painful, but without rejection, you can't find your true potential.I am not the only one who has to face rejection before attaining success. In 2016, J.K. Rowling , the Harry Potter author took to Twitter to share some of the toughest rejection letters she received over the years, both for the first Harry Potter book -- which was famously turned down 12 times before Bloomsbury agreed to publish it -- .. But she kept going anyway. “I wasn't going to give up until every single publisher turned me down, but I often feared that would happen,” Rowling wrote. “I had nothing to lose and sometimes that makes you brave enough to try.”[1][1][1][1]I agree with her.Rejections did not break me.Soon I was ready to face even more rejections.I quit IRS in 2016 to pursue my passion in writing and teaching.I am a B Tech from IIT-BHU Varanasi, M Tech from IIT Delhi and PhD from IIITM Gwalior.I was sure to get some job offer from some Academic institute in India as a Faculty.I applied for almost a dozen Management colleges in India including the private ones.I was rejected by all of them.Did I stop teaching due to rejection? No!I rather started Awdhesh Academy, first as an YouTube Channel (November 2017) and then as a private limited company (May 2018) to teach and share my knowledge online. When Awdhesh Academy was opened for subscription in June 2018, I got more than 300 paid registrations within 10 days.I got extremely excited with the response and decided to arrange for more funds to expand my Academy.I contacted more than two dozen Venture Capitalists for funds. And you know what. The history repeated itself.I was rejected by all of them. However, that did not stop my journey.I rather introduced a new course this month on our platform for civil services and we are going to introduce many more courses in due course of time.We may grow slowly in absence of VCs, but that does not make any difference to me.I am in no hurry and I am enjoying the journey of successes and failures, acceptance and rejections, pleasure and pain without which it is impossible to know who you are and what potential you have.Young people often ask me how to identify their potentials, talents or gifts of nature. My experience is that there is no formula, shortcut or test made in the world which can identify who you are at the deepest level. It is only by suffering the pains of the failures and rejections, you can identify yourself and find your true potential.Footnotes[1] Stories of Rejection From 8 of the World's Most Successful Entrepreneurs and Leaders[1] Stories of Rejection From 8 of the World's Most Successful Entrepreneurs and Leaders[1] Stories of Rejection From 8 of the World's Most Successful Entrepreneurs and Leaders[1] Stories of Rejection From 8 of the World's Most Successful Entrepreneurs and Leaders
