If you are sentenced to Arkansas Department of Correction (ADC), probably about one year. Most Arkansas felony sentences are served on a six for one parole eligibility rule, meaning that each day you serve counts as six days towards your parole eligibility date. Just understand that things aren’t quite that simple. The actual amount of time served can be affected by a number of other factors, including:While most felonies come with a six for one rule, others have a four for one rule. Some more serious felonies have a 50%, 70% or even 100% rules. Your parole can also be affected by your criminal history.The six for one rule only applies when you arrive in ACD. Most inmates are housed in county jail for several months before being sent down (the wait depends on how full ADC is). You will get credit for the time you serve in county jail, but not at six for one. If you pick up disciplinary infractions in ADC, if someone objects to an early release, and even the parole board (who whatever reason) not feeling like paroling you early, can all affect your release date. Remember: They can keep you for your entire sentence if they want to (though this is rare).What I said applies only if you serve your time in ADC. Arkansas also has an alternative sanction called Regional Correction Center—sometimes called Community Correction Center—(RCF). Inmates sent to RCF usually are released after nine months, regardless of the length of their sentence, though people sentenced to RCF do not receive credit for their time in county jail.

D. Townsend, witnessed the last meeting of George Thomas and Robert E Lee in his office. Lee frostily addressed Thomas about rumors he had called Lee a traitor, Thomas responded they were not rumors; he had done so. Lee said he had done nothing out of order and no one should think so. Thomas replied that he knew that General Scott, Lee’s mentor, himself considered what Lee was doing was a betrayal of his duties. Lee fell silent and left.Lee was highly conflicted. By Christmas of 1861 his fine Brown head and mustache would be gray.Lee was within his rights to resign his commission. The US Army did not hold him to his office as a war measure, Officially absolving him of his duties. By law Lee did NOT “desert” his post. ( By comparison, another case, Sec War J B Floyd dispatched orders to the northern arsenals for weapons to be shipped to Southern states on a Friday evening, then fled to Virginia without resigning. Suspicious arsenal chiefs refused the orders and wired the War Dept for instructions. )

Is prison as bad as it’s depicted in movies and TV shows? Not as bad? Or worse?You must realize that the Mainstream Media (MM) has a vested interest in portraying prison in as negative a light as possible. Give that idea a try and you’ll understand why this is.The MM version of prison is nothing like the actual experience. Prisons in each state will vary greatly on how they house and treat inmates. I was in the Arkansas Prison System (ADC) for a little over 4 years. I was arrested for selling marijuana. I was given a 25-year prison sentence for some psychedelic mushrooms I had in my house. So I was a non-violent inmate, who got sent to the most violent prison in my state, Varner (aka Gladiator School) because of the length of my sentence, rather than the severity of my crimes.Needless to say, I was a bit concerned when they told me where I was going. Oh, yea, they didn’t tell us where we were going until we were locked on the bus headed that way. They knew people might freak out and try to protest. Once you’re chained to other inmates and locked into a prison van, protesting is pointless. Suck-it-up buttercup, yer going to Gladiator School. Hope you’re not afraid to fight.Once I got settled into my barracks, the reality of my situation was a far cry from what I’d imagined. The best way for me to try to explain the environment is to compare it to either an Army Barracks or College Dorm. The only difference is that none of these people really wants to be there. They have accepted the fact that they are in fact in prison, and are simply doing their best to get through their day with as little drama as possible … just like people on the street.Oh, sure, you’re gonna have inmates that you need to keep an eye on. This is, after all, where they put thieves. So keep your personal items locked in your box. A thief isn’t going to do a ‘snatch-and-grab’ if your shit is locked up. The only time I’ve seen anyone actually try to break into another inmate's locked box, is when they know that their friend just got sent to isolation, and his buddy’s trying to get his contraband/books/commissary out of his box before the C.O.’s come take his stuff. Or in rare cases, someone is just being vindictive and pissy. For the most part, though it’s not hard to avoid becoming victim to a thief.In general, a prison is like a town with each barracks being a different suburb of that town. Some barracks are clearly better living environments than others. When you first get to prison, you’re going into the low class ‘projects’ side of the prison/town. You will be given some daily job to do. You will start out at class 2. In 60 days you will get your class 1 and get moved to a better part of this prison/town. This is generally considered the ‘Class 4’ area because this is where the fuck-ups get sent. Some people do their entire time in the ‘projects’ because they enjoy the rebellious lifestyle that those barracks offer.Once you get your class 1 status and keep it, prison can be a fairly easy gig. I was able to get into a ‘309 Program’ once I finished a few classes. I was sent to a County Jail and worked there as a trustee. We got special privileges as a 309. We could wear street clothes, had access to a free phone, could go to the local Wal-Mart store weekly, our family could visit us any day of the weekend and bring food/clothes. We could come and go as we pleased as long as we didn’t leave the compound. So I had the freedom to walk around, outside, with a radio and street clothes sipping on a Dr. Pepper.All in all not a bad gig for someone in prison.A far cry however, from what the MM sell us.
