India asked Pakistan to hand over Gilgit—Baltistan to India and withdraw its army. India also started a weather bulletin for Gilgit—Baltistan region. India asked China to stop its CPEC and other projects in Gilgit—Baltistan region. Due to objections of India. World Bank stopped financing the Diemer —Bhasa dam on Indus river. There are movements in this region for independence and self rule. Some political leaders like BabaJan were kept in jail for their demand of self rule. Due to pressure of self rule from local people. Pakistan Government wanted to declare Gilgit—Baltistan as its fifth province. This region is under the complete grip of China. PLA soldiers are stationed here to provide security to Chinese workers for various projects. It may not be easy to take over Gilgit—Baltistan from China—Pakistan combined. But India can try to proceed along eastern boundary of Gilgit-Baltistan and occupy some areas along border with China. The present stand off with China is outcome of Gilgit—Baltistan plan of India.
