First of all, this question needs to be a lot specific. Comparison between Bits Pilani Pilani campus and one of the new IITs is meaningless. Same applies to comparison between an old IIT and Bits Goa/Hyderabad/Dubai(?) campuses.Secondly, what makes a college better depends on the individual and his requirements. But answering the question in a general sense, the real bugger is comparison between Bits Pilani Pilani Campus and an old IIT like IIT Bombay.Since this answer requires a subjective treatment,there is a lot of ground to cover, so hold back,stretch your hands,relax, make yourself a coffee and find a good couch as this will take time to read.First lets analyze on points that are believed to give Bits an edge over the IITS:(1)Reservation:Reservation is one messed up system and we do have students above 5k rank in core branches, boasting their IITB credentials. Situation is even worse in other IITs as IITB witnesses higher cutoffs than any other IIT. However the rest half are arguably the cream students of the country and for a population of 1.3 billion, that’s saying a lot. This makes IITB an incredibly competitive place and in general, the level and quality of competition is definitely much higher than that in Bits.Besides majority of students in Bits also have ranks above 5k ,so even the reserved crowd logically offers more or less the same competition. IIT(old)ians in departments like electrical and cs, whether reserved(OBC) or not, still possess much higher ranks than Bitsians. The OBC btech cutoff for cs and electrical at iitb remains around 300 and 1200 respectively. Nobody with right mindset would have chosen Bits with those ranks. SC/ST’s are whole other stories but they comprise just 22% of the population. So the general crowd in an old IIT based on entrance tests is better than the regular Bitsian crowd. The best in IIT are at whole new level while the mediocre are not so far behind.The impact of reservation on overall quality is felt only in new iits. It may feel not difficult (but only in your first year) to score more than the average even if you perform poor, thanks to reservation. On the flip side, try to score maximum marks in an exam and you will regret being born.(2)No attendance: This is a major argument given against IITs that Bits follows zero attendance policy and hence gives more freedom to its students. However this hardly makes a difference as professors in Bits ensure attendance through unannounced tut tests or covering stuff out of slides in lectures. Besides most of the courses at IITB also are relaxed on attendance and it really depends on the professor. Most of the courses in the first year IITB had no attendance requirement. Following a passion during lecture hours doesn’t make much sense if you want a decent academic record. The only relaxation that zero attendance policy provides is that one will still be allowed to give term end exams even with zero attendance, or one can pay uninterrupted attention to private endeavors like startup, etc.(3)Dual Degree: This is really a very nice policy at Bits where they have integrated Msc courses with BE ones. Hence one can graduate with both a bachelors and a masters degree in different streams and this allows for a lot of flexibility. Any engineering stream of one's choice can be clubbed with the dual at a low cgpa cutoff. Dual degrees certainly provide Bits an edge over IITs. There is no such concept at IITB.For people smartly pointing out that IITB also has dual degree courses, take a deep breath and try to understand what's being said here. The dual courses in iit is very different from bits pilani even though both are called dual degrees. See comments for more info.(4)Practice Schools: Another good policy of Bits. Students are almost certain to be interned at the end of second and fourth year. There are extremely high number of opportunities at IITB also but there is no certainty. The minor flip side is that you cannot attend PS2 if you missed PS1.(5)Deciding own timetable: In Bits you can choose own timetable but that’s only if you have a high PR number(randomly generated each semester) else you will have to compromise on your instructors/schedule. All this is not of much consequence overall.(6)Fees: Fees in Bits is a tad higher than IITB but you get exemption on fees if you perform well in Bits. There is no such provisions at IITB. SC/STs study at this premier most institute for free and no reason at all. The closest you can come is a Merit-Cum-Need or some private scholarship. All this is pretty irritating.Edit: Fees is no longer a tad bit higher in bits as the administration there treats the students as gold mines for its vision 2020.(7)Seclusion: Pilani is located very remotely with nearest cities being Delhi and Jaipur, both around 200 kms far. So for every little initiative or career requirement you have to shuttle between cities. Though the enthusiasm for startup is great at Pilani, one has to travel to Delhi again and again to run it. IITB being located right in the financial capital of the nation offers much more opportunities and attracts companies more.Comparison of experience at both the institutesCampus: Both the institutes have a breathtaking campus to boast, with IITB campus being larger and greener, while the Pilani campus being cosier and less green due to the geographical location of Pilani. The Bits campus is slightly better maintained and has got more places where you can simply lay down,relax and stargaze or something like that. The Saraswati Temple , the grass area of NAB(New Academy Buildings), and the Sky Lawns are great places to spend time in peace.Meanwhile the IITB campus feels more spacious and has a cooler appeal to it.Overall, both campuses are worth taking a pause to appreciate their beauty.2.Clubs: Club culture in Bits is more or less meaningless. The first few weeks of a fresher is spent in tedious interactions with seniors and if you can impress them, you might get selected in a department. Interactions for clubs are meaningless as ultimately auditions for them are what that matters eventually. Further if you somehow couldn’t make into a club that you are interested in, there is very little possibility you will be given a second chance. However once you do get in a C/D, you will spend a good time. One positive aspect of this is that senior-junior interaction at bits is very high from the start. You make contacts with tons of seniors effortlessly, which kind of felt missing at IITB where there was minimal interaction in the beginning. Gradually however, through various channels like working in institute bodies, department events, etc. you get in touch with a large number of seniors in IIT also.In IITB, scenario is different as “enthu” is the main thing that’s required. Anyone can work if one is interested. For tech teams, of course they expect you have the required skills if you join late, but the process is much less stringent. The orientation of each club were exciting events and the participation was purely voluntary. This system works way better as you get to freely experiment with the work involved in different bodies at your comfort level and then gauge your interests accordingly. All this freedom and opportunity to explore varied sorts of work was highly missing in Bits.Both institutes have clubs for most of the activities.3.Ragging: Zero(rather negative) in IITB, dismal in Bits Pilani. Only during interactions when you visit seniors, you might be asked to give your intro and stuff but everything’s under control. In IITB if a senior is caught in a fresher hostel in the first month, he will face a hard time justifying that.Besides that, there is an excellent system at IITB to provide a 4th-year student as ISMP mentor to the freshers to assist them in all their difficulties and guide them, and a DAMP mentor (of the same branch) in the following years to help you regarding all academic or curriculum problems. Such a system really ensures one gets a proper guidance and stay comfortable with the insti life and policies.4.Facilities:Mess- Food quality is definitely better at IITB especially in senior hostels. IIT mess is markedly better as it serves 4 times a day, provides a lot more variety to food than Bits’ mess, has wifi, TV and is more spacious. However, Bits somewhat compensates that by having a nice canteen in the mess itself and by organizing regional dinners called “Grubs”, but even that is retaliated in IITB by organizing multiple gala dinners and hostel events.Library-Bits library is better hands down. Its much larger, aesthetically much more beautiful, calmer and has got an excellent environment and facilities to read and study. Obviously, all sorts of books and facilities are available at both libraries, it is just that the Bits library is better built and maintained. Plus its got a nice CCD machine.Workshop-Mechanical Workshop in Bits was much better than at IITB with more shops and a stricter first-year course that focused heavily on the details of the processes involved. Plus the equipments were provided in the workshop itself and needn’t be bought, unlike at IITB.Internet-The net speed at Bits made me laugh and cry at the same time. Wifi speed is okayish while Lan speed is laughable. There were restrictions on many sites. The only relief was the software labs in NAB but that too was closed after midnight. One had to rely on mobile data outside hostels and DC++ to download stuff.IITB, on the other hand, offers high Lan and wifi speed clocking around 100mbps and has got wifi in every building. There is no restriction of any kind, except torrents. So IITB has a lot better internet connectivity.Hospital-Bits had a medical center that closed down in the evening(lol) and in cases of emergency, you would have to call the warden who will in turn either come himself with his car or send for an ambulance. Besides one cannot expect very good medical services in a small town like Pilani. The medical center was also not very up to the mark.The IIT hospital is a very large one with 24-hour emergency service, very sincere ambulance service and highly skilled doctors. A medical file of each student is maintained and the medicines are supplied free/subsidized rates. One can find medical assistance for any trouble.Hostel-Bits has better living conditions :P if you think for 4 years. Gandhi, SR,Ram and Buddh bhawans are very nicely built and are spacious. Rest all hostels can be described as “meh”. The rooms are sufficiently large, open; no space crunch so hostels are only one story high. There are small courtyards in the hostels where one can play cricket, badminton, etc. and the common room had TT tables, TV and CCD service at night. Any complaint was immediately dealt with. However the washrooms in older hostels were miserable and cleaning staff wasn’t very sincere.IITB hostel rooms for the first year are as good as it gets, offering a very nice view of Sameer hills from the windows and with a nice large Refugee area on the 7th floor where one can chill out and enjoy the scenic beauty of the Powaii area(including Vihar and Powaii lakes). The common rooms are spacious and have TT and foosball tables. Besides rooms get cleaned once every month by the staff. However things go somewhat ugly after the one year paradise. The hostels for sophomores and third year UG male students seem no less than haunted places with rooms small enough to put slums at Dharavi to shame and old enough to remind us of the colonial era.Edit: Most of the crowd in the older hostels have been shifted to the newly formed Hostel 18 with single rooms, which has top notch infrastructure and facilites.For any recreation, one needs to go to SAC which is not very far away.Infrastructure:The Saraswati Temple,Rotunda, NAB area and FD5 are really well built and comfortable to spend time in. The Bits campus is small so reaching from one place to another usually take no longer than 15 minutes. However the SAC and GymG(sports ground) were small and very ordinary and there was not much scope to pursue a new skill/sport if you are a beginner, or barring a few activities there was not much emphasis overall on extra-currics. IITB on the other hand has a very good Lecture Hall Complex and excellent facilities at SAC, better roads in the campus, more comfortable classrooms and really nice auditoriums.Transport in Pilani is a big pain in the ass with no direct trains and limited connectivity to the nearest station Loharu. Inside the campus, the autos charged profusely though there was never a need to ride with them. On the other hand, IITB is located right in the city and inside the campus, tumtum services are good and the autos charge moderately.The FD2/FD3 divisions in Bits were old. IITB does have more halls for teaching and better maintained department classrooms.5.Sex Ratio: Both are engineering colleges at the end of the day. Be prepared to die single, no exceptions here.6.Life in the campus:In bits life was more chilled out(or lite) as the academic pressure was a little lesser and the no attendance rule always cut off some slack. Beside the late night culture in bits is really popular and the campus is much more alive at night. Places like ANC, SR reddy , Rotunda see a lot of footfall and team meets. Such thing is missing at iitb as people mainly gather in the canteens but don’t roam around the campus or carry out their business too late at night.There are many places in Bits where one can hang out to eat or celebrate. There were reddys for each of the 14 hostels, ANC, Sky Lawns and a few restaurants inside the campus. As compared to that, IITB also has a similar case with many canteens and cafes to eat. However, outside the Pilani campus, there were not many options. The Connought place was at a stone’s throw but had substandard food at high prices. There were very few restaurants/bars outside, no Dominoes, no McDonalds,no anything. On the other hand, outside the campus of IITB there is Hiranandani and the whole Mumbai city. Obviously there is no further need to mention anything more, you can explore new places and restaurants every day of the year if you want to.Being located in city area has its own perks. There is an ocean of options if one wants to hang out or plan a one day trip in IITB, notably for trekking. In Pilani, there is a lot of seclusion and less exposure. To have any little excursion or adventure outside the campus, one has to consider Delhi or Jaipur.Freedom: In IITB the institute gives somewhat more freedom to its students. You can leave or enter the campus at any time and roam outside all night if you want. In Pilani until this year, girls had to return back to their rooms by 10pm which I guess, sucked a lot, and is a pretty seneseless rule. Further there is no restriction in iitb to enter hostels of the opposite sex until 10 pm.Edit on the request of Navneet Prabhat : boys are not allowed to enter the girl's hostel at all(Mira Bhavan) in Bits Pilani :PYou don’t need to take your wallet when you go out of your room in Bits. Your ID card takes care of that as transactions in most of the shops happen against your mess bill. So its a good step towards going cashlessWeather: The weather at Bits is another pain in the ass. Being located in Rajasthan, the temperature goes from 45C to all the way down to -2C. The rains are torrential and sometimes choke the campus. Mumbai on another hand remains mild, showery and pleasant all the year long.Lingo: There is virtually nothing to call a lingo at iitb. Words like craxx and machauu seems too forced to be used in regular conversations. In bits “lite” culture is really popular and the lingo was addicting. Words like “phoda”, “ghot” really slip out of the mouth.Fests: Oasis is not very interesting and rather a little over-hyped. Yes I said it. Not sure about being the second best but surely it lags behind Mood-I. The only flip side to Mood-I is that the institute provides no food or accommodation to the first year students. However loads of people get room retention on the pretense of projects under profs, IB work or sports camps.A lot of cultural, entertainment, technical and academic events are organised all the year round in both the colleges, the frequency being more in IITB.DC++: Dc++ sharing at IITB is very poor. Not many hubs and very limited files. Meanwhile at Bits, DC++ was the lifeline with many hubs and almost all sorts of files were available. Plus I don't believe IITB can ever have a DoPo of its own :P7.Academics:The first few weeks at both the colleges felt same in terms of quality,pressure and peer group. However differences segregated out a lot gradually.In Bits, almost all the courses were dealt superficially with a less in-depth treatment. Many courses could easily be nailed by properly covering the slides and practicing a particular set of questions. There were rare surprises in the evaluative papers in many courses although some courses like CP, Meow, EG, Bio and Thermo were challenging. Situation in IITB was different as the courses are much more detailed and depend more on implementation of the concepts taught rather than simply understanding them. Plain slide reading wouldn’t ensure a good grade at IITB. Conclusively, the evaluatives in Bits didn’t compel one to appreciate or explore the subject.The quality of interaction between students and the instructor during lectures was dismal. Some professors like Rishikesh Vaidya, Sunil Kumar, and Vishal Saxena were amazing and even received ovations. However lectures were usually rushed and less time was devoted to entertain doubts. The quality of discussions was also very ordinary. A lot of this depends on the peer group also. In IITB according to my experience the students take a much greater interest in initiating these discussions which sort of felt missing in Bits.In IITB, the instructors are academically more qualified and the student-prof interaction is very rich. The doubts are highly entertained and the discussions are very stimulating. In general the professors at IITB teach better, focus on intricate points, and resolve doubts effortlessly. Overall for similar courses at both the places, IITB covered them in a more comprehensive and conceptual manner, rather than stressing on formulas or on concise/shallow coverage of more topics; as was the case in Bits.A lot of open-book exams were held in bits which really was a good thing. Open book exams were a lot more challenging and really tested one’s level of understanding of the topic/course. There were fewer open book tests in IITB.The tutorials in Bits were taught by professors while in IITB mostly senior students took them. Obviously a professor with PHD has a more in depth grasp on the course and a much higher expertise in teaching than a 2nd/3rd year student. Thus tuts in Bits were more beneficial than tutorials at IITB, provided one opted for decent profs when deciding the timetable.Relative grading is followed at both the colleges. In bits performance of students are evenly distributed and its easier to score a good grade and even if one messes a course, the grade doesn’t fall down drastically. In IITB, scoring a top grade can suck the life out of you and if you ruin your paper, the grades slip down sharply. Even 0.5 marks are sufficient to push down the grade. The peer group is very competitive,which is natural considering that majority of under 500 rankers choose IITB. Consequently, academic pressure at Bits is more relaxing and less stressful.A good initiative at IITB is that each student has to compulsorily have to enroll in NSO(sports),NSS(social work) or NCC(cadet corps) zero credit course. This was missing in Bits.8. Internship opportunities: Probably this point is one of the most impactful one to establish a contrast between the two institutes. Internship and research opportunities offered by an engineering college, particularly in the third year, are the benchmark for deciding its eminence and IIT-B for all purposes comprehensively edges over Bits in this regard. Right at the onset of the fifth semester, a plethora of companies, universities and firms approach the institute for extending internship and work opportunities, and a good majority of them extend PPOs to the students after the third year summer. The situation is such that maximum students get interned by the end of the semester in a highly reputable company or a notable university with lucrative stipends, just because of the sheer volume of companies/univs that approach IITB.In Bits, the large majority of students mostly venture on opportunities that they have to create for themselves, be it through apping or personal contacts, for the third year summer. Barring a few, the masses either spend the summer learning stuff on their own, without a professional guidance, or engage in self undertakings, which is quite a waste of a golden period. However the 7th sem is spent in PS -2 which does provide a comprehensive working experience with reasonable stipend.In general, the trend to intern in a company or take up a research project is markedly more in IIT-B, where staying idle even in the second year summer is scorned upon.9.Alumni Support: This is again an important area where IIT-B considerably triumphs over Bits-Pilani. There was hardly a body in Bits that meliorated the student-alumni interaction in the institute to benefit the students. In contrast, the Student Alumni Relations Cell (SARC) in IITB, is a committed and highly active body to foster productive and constructive relations between the students, the alumni and the institute through a variety of initiatives, most notably the Alumni Student Mentorship Program (on the same lines as ISMP and DAMP), and Alumination (a plethora of events for career boosting and personal guidance). Consequently, the alumni side engagement is also very high, leading to enrichment and high networking opportunities.10.Tag value: No doubt tag value of IITB is more marketable than that of Bits Pilani. This difference is even more pronounced internationally. The local population also tend to respect the IIT tag more, no matter whether you enter by merit or through bogus means like reservation. That’s a hard fact and there are no if or buts.11.Connection of Campuses: It doesn’t matter whether you graduate from Bits Pilani or Bits Goa, you will get the same graduation certificate and treatment by every recruiter. The course structure, curriculum and administrative policies at all campuses are identical. In IITs this is not the case and each IIT isn’t bound by same curriculum and policies.12.Experience after one year: Iitb definitely felt like a more dynamic institute with a hell lot of more opportunities to learn and apply after the first year. The aggressive and productive environment was sort of missing in Bits. The provisions are such that one can pursue whatever one wants whenever one wants in IITB. The programs like ITSP, SOS and SOC, plus surplus internship opportunities, coordinator work, social programs, summer courses, adventure trips, and various other workshops at IITB felt missing a lot at Bits where maximum students are compelled to waste their summers doing nothing or next to nothing. Further over-viewing the curriculum at the end of the year, IITB curriculum felt more relevant, rigorous, qualitative and productive. There is much more clarity regarding future years. Further Bits also pays the price of seclusion as the IIT experience felt more wholesome. The peer group is also very challenging in IITB that automatically induces one to not to lag behind.So that indeed was a comprehensive comparison between the two institutes. And though IITB is definitely better than Bits Pilani Pilani Campus on many parameters, including the important ones, the Pilani campus is one of the most unique ones in India. Furthermore all the comparisons I have done is on the basis of limited knowledge gathered over just one year and there can be a lot of aspects that might make a difference.Besides an ideal college also depend on what courses/stream one wishes to pursue. Leaving CS/Elec at IITB to study the same at Bits is one horrible decision, and leaving the same at Bits to study non core courses/courses you have no interest in, at IITB just for the sake of it, is also a very bad decision. Needless to say, perspective guides me . Someone else might observe things differently.The real difference to a college is brought about by its students. Since old IITs has top rankers of JEE, they definitely accept the cream. If the same students go into Bits, it may supersede IITs.So “Is Bits a good college?”: yes. Its rare for a completely autonomous private college with no government support and ties: to engage in a somewhat close battle with completely government funded premier institutes, and still maintain its identity and reputation both internationally and locally. Furthermore Bits has really been efficient at progressing on limited resources and finding its own way. If it had its own lavish research funding and government support, it would improve way much more than other colleges.However nothing can be said for 5–6 years in the future. The way Bits is going on regarding low cutoffs, increased strength and fees has really put its reputation at stake.I hope I have been thorough and gave a glimpse of what it is like to spend time in these colleges and hence give my version to the long debate of which college trumps over the other.Leave in comments any correction or any more parameter that should have been discussed.Edit: More than 100 upvotes in less than a day. As a parent of a boy studying in RVCE and given the fact that I did my B.Tech in IIT Madras decades ago and having researched RVCE, VIT, SRM, BMS, MSRIT as also sufficiently studied PESIT, MIT and NITSuratkal, I can state the following.Before my son wrote JEE Mains and the rest, my belief was if my son gets IIT M(or any of the old 5) go there, else any college in BLR is fine. I did not consider NIT Suratkal made a diff though my son thought it was better than BLR colleges.As my son did not get good enough JEE Advanced rank as to get IIT M, I started the research. I took admission for him by default in VIT, SRM and after getting JEE Adv result did Serious research to find that a. VIT, SRM are jokes, b. the minute CET, COMEDK came the latter helping my son I found that BMS, MSRIT were class below RVCE, c. MIT is a little better in attitude to VIT, SRM but again not so good.After my son joined RVCE I found that folks have skipped Suratkal in preference to RVCE even for the same or similar branches. A CS guy in RVCE might have an IT seat in NITK and might skip it. The crowd in RVCE is Elite without doubt. I am certainly happy about that, as my son gets to beat smart kids in college. (Note that my son had the disadvantage of ISC at boards …though that means better education but difficult JEE Mains etc…except Advanced! So the fun of beating these CBSE muggos is fun!)Not sure if the VITEE, SRMJEE, MUOET top rankers ever join there, since these colleges specialize in management. So if 60% of RVCE guys especially in the top 3 branches CS, ECE and IS are the cream of Karnataka and from India (via COMEDK), most who join VIT or SRM may be capitation variety. In summary that my son did not get into IIT M is a sore point, but after that the choice is clear (I was not that clear six months back!)Finally if placement means anything RVCE top 3 branches will give a run to most of the other branches in IIT M leave alone the rest. May sound superfluous but other than IIT M others dont have the guts to put their stats on the net. RVCE does it. VIT, SRM only talk of producing bulk matter for bulk jobs. Visit RVCE site and you will find clear data on how many got 14L+ and that makes it clear favourite to the point that I made to my IIT M Prof retd. brother that if placement is a value, then it is better to join RVCE top branches (CS,ECE,IS) instead of even Mech in IITM. I will agree there are others like NITK, IIITH, BITS all in CS, EC branches that will also give great placements but I am trying to state that studying Civil in IIT M may not get you what RVCE CS might!Having said all this, I personally will prefer IIT M for my son, (he is lazy to try again as he is doing fine in RVCE) because of the quality of learning which certainly is superior to RVCE. However having done sufficient boxing with RVCE profs, I am impressed by their capability vis a vis VIT,SRM,BMS and MSRIT whose profs were also verified by me. These other college profs leave a lot to be appreciated.Summary, if you want a good salary after studies (seems to be the mad reason for many foolish students and parents to make their kids go mad in 11th and 12th if not from 6th onwards!) then if you dont get top 5 IITs or maybe a couple more say Roorkhee, BHU and if you dont get BITS that too in CS or Electronics then you can get into RVCE in CS,IS or ECE. However if you want good education and say in a specific branch then top IITs, BITS (Pilani), NIT (Trichy, Suratkal and Warangal) will precede RVCE for sure.As for NIRF ranking I will treat it as tissue paper, beyond a glance. Just my 2cents view…. do your research as what you want might not be what I want and certainly not what my son wants. He might be happy with a high end Indian salary and might be happy with decent education and classmates who are smart but possible to beat with minimal effort and finally a college that lets him to think but does not force him to struggle. RVCE is very accommodating, supportive and encouraging to the smart brains but the Profs are not necessarily as smart as in IIT M.RVCE is a good place for a smart guy who is lazy and wants the best possible with minimal effort and where you come out with fantastic salaries.ADD ONWith 2 years having gone since my original post, with the serious up voters, I thought I will add more recent info.RVCE top 10% CS folks get much better jobs than say IIT M, non CS and may be non EE guys. To explain it, the first week of placement this year had about 50 CS jobs, of which 28 were Cisco at ONLY 13.5L (see the stress on only). If this was left behind, a conservative value for the average of the rest was around 22L.MS 39L, Citrix 24L, Goldman 22L Couchbase 20L filled about 15 folks. It is rumored that an American placement at 1Cr is also going to be available. That puts RVCE way ahead of the rest, excluding IIT (top ones) + a few others.Data for IS though not equally great is close to CS in terms of percentages. ECE stands tall in addition. In summary RVCE is way beyond NIRF ratings and probably in the top 10 in the country in terms of placement.Add On 29Aug18The latest info. states that an Australian company Atlasian (not Alsatian!) has given what I would guess as the highest Indian salary ever given in the history of India for freshers a sweet 48.5L and the first entrants are two kids from India are from RVCE (Campus Placements). Believe me, one of them is not even a 9 pointer but is supposed to be very well versed in coding and after having been troubled by other point looking companies has got this. There seems to be atleast 9 jobs with 30L+ salaries so far and Uber and Adobe and the likes have not come in yet. Also a particular company is for the first time trying to take for a US job at close to a crore, RVCE students. Of course 25L in India is worth better than 1C in US in real worth.So if you get Mechanical in IIT Madras, and CS or IS in RVCE and you are genuinely good and will sincerely learn and get good grades and you want a better salary the choice is clear. I guess the first 40 salaries in RVCE this year as of now must be having an average of around 28L. Believe me, the college makes very little noise about all this.Update on 19Nov18I was aghast that BITS Hyderabad pass out (or claiming to be one) was upset with my message. That is awe inspiring. If they were good, there is no reason to get into this message for a comment as this message was not dealing with BITS. That has forced me to write a few points.The above values I have placed are correct to the best of my belief but please note that they are talking about particular branch in RVCE. For example if you were in ECE (at RVCE) and you were not taking a coding job at a higher level, the best job would be TI at around 22L. Now if you run out of the Electrical branches, where again as you go from ECE to say Telecom the salaries drop, and then land in Mechanical or Civil and you did not get a top end coding job, then the top salaries go down to the less than 10L section.What does this mean?1. Averages don’t mean anything. In BITS for example the intake is very less, and no reservation or management seat. So their averages don’t drop much. However even there a single foreign offer skews the average, and means nothing! However in RVCE with reservation and with management yet the CS department claims an average of about 12L last year and I bet that should have moved up for the current batch (the batch with the Atlasian job) to maybe 14L. Now this includes the Management quota and the Reserved quota. So one should remember averages are not a good tool to measure many things. Even the “Mean” may not mean everything.2. What is happening today in India is what is called the Bubble paradox. The rich are growing richer and the poor, poorer. So the top salaries are going up while for the lower end of the spectrum getting a job is getting tougher. This means that if you did Mechanical in IIT Madras and that means a rank below 2K in GM, and you did not crap in Coding fundas, but learnt your subject “Mechanical” chances of a 20L job diminish terribly. Ofcourse you will get a brilliant Mech job but with lesser salary. If you did Mech in a god forbid college, then you get nothing or maybe TCS job! I had this taxi driver in Chennai who passed out of one of those colleges who had a Mech degree and a core job of 12K and HCL job of 18K and he was driving taxi for the summer to make some quick bucks! That is what I was pointing to. The problem is the top end of the Software Industry is paying terribly high compared to the Engineering jobs as on date.3. Finally the biggest foolishness of Indian parents and students alike is that we are comparing Salaries with Worth and deciding JEE or some such exams with Potential. As an IIT B.Tech of 80s, I dont agree to this. Today the crammer gets away with ranks in many competitive exam. For example, while I poke fun at my Tamil nadu brethren that they are not willing to take NEET (in some posts!), one must realise that CBSE and JEE main are equally hopeless. The TN guy has eaten the TN book and the CBSE guy the respective book. A question like what is a raincoat made of, answer being Bakelite does not make you any better, but if you studied CBSE you got 4 marks in 2016 JEE Main but if you did ISC you just did not. Does that mean anything? The real test is JEE Advanced where the understanding is at least tested to a good extent. However they are not the same as the JEE of my times, since they need to produce 25K GM ranks and need to fix folks with reservation whose GM ranking might be say 2.5L in SC/ST and probably 10L in Pwd. So the paper cant be that focussed on UNDERSTANDING. Now Understanding is one thing, Knowledge is a lesser stuff and Cramming and Vomitting is the lower stuff where TN board and CBSE do it the Tamilian and Hindiwala style. No difference. So if you really want to check your worth then KVPY seems to be the last bastion of evaluation. No doubt the Olympiads are much better but they are trying to skim the top 10 of the country in say Maths or Physics or Chemistry or whatever. So if you want to claim to be a genius tell me your KVPY rank and we can take it further. Again I want KVPY rank of those who did not do Biology if they got through in 12th!? The KVPY maths paper in 12th is a total killer!4. The saddest part is making money via salary is worthless. If my son picks up a 40L job, I would argue that if he was worth 4C in wealth at 10% he is better off. (Today many are crore pathis!) So education is for learning and understanding and not for “feeling proud” about some slave job. I left the industry at the peak of my career as I found nothing more than “acting big” as the benefit. So it is sad that kids and their parents torture themselves from 7th standard or earlier to get through these so called competitive exams to ultimately slave it out for these silly salaries. And once they are there, it is a pity that someone thinks since he cracked a silly exam and wrote bakelite right and so got say 5000 ranks more he is better than the one who did not know it. LIFE unfortunately is a continuous battle and those who get into IITs and then never learn are not going to “fell better off” in the “slave market” then one who enjoyed his childhood, learnt for “learning’s sake” and then got going.Dont know if my point is clear, but I think if you carry your JEE or some goddamn exam rank as a tag that wont take you too far. Yes the discussion initially was to compare RVCE CSE with MIT CSE which is not a big question to answer, however the way CSE is making a difference to life in terms of salaries across the world, people who thought they did great to get say a 3K rank in JEE are probably mistaken after they do brilliantly in Civil in say IIT Delhi and learn a lot but may not get the salary that a 100K rank guy in JEE who might have joined PESIT in CSE and spent time on Hacker Rank may get. Some info. of interest.RVCE CSE Placement 2017–18 Max = 39.12 Min = 3.15 Average = 11.15IITM CSE Placement 2017–18 Max =95.87 Min= 7 Median = 21I am not talking about other branches in IITM where the stats are much lower. Now in RVCE there are about 55 folks via COMEDK with no reservation, 50 in CET in GM and we can assume the reserved of about 50 again around 30 can be placed in similar vein as they are likely to be in top 600CET ranks. So about 120 of 180 folks are non Management. Add about 50 with Diploma who are the laggards in performance. So in the 220 or so that essentially come out, around 130 are genuinely good. So if you take the median of this 130 group, my guess is they are around 15L. If you see the overall placement stats of RVCE of all departments, in 2017–18 there are 140 with more than 12L and the number has shot to 250 in 2018–19 where placement is in progress. So for 2018–19 I will assume the median of CSE RVCE to be around 21 the same as IITM in the previous year.Now RVCE CSE Placement of 2018–19 which is progress shows for CSE Max=50, Min = 4 and Average = 11.5.In IITM even with reservation the quality of intake is likely to be very good. IIT M placement for 2018–19 is yet to begin. Their data shows clearly that with international placements the salaries have shot close to a crore.A detailed comparison shows whatever I have been stating for months on this message.a. IIT Madras and other top 5 IITs are obviously brilliant (I cant reduce my pedigree…can I…LOL!). However if you are bothered about salary, and you are not in CSE or trying a CSE job by spending 4 years learning non core stuff then well you are gonna be on the average much better than the rest and the rest includes RVCE for sure.b. However even in the top IITs if you are not in CSE the salaries drop dramatically, though they are likely to be much better than the rest.c. If you want a top placement, at the end of 12th better to look for CSE and not necessarily tags like IIT. If top 5 IITs cant help then BITS Pilani is behind and top 3 NITs are below and the rest are to be forgotten. Ofcourse if you want to learn Civil it is better in a top IIT than in a lower top state college like RVCE or Guindy or Osmania or Jadavpur.d. I am sure similar data for CSE as in RVCE exists in Jadavpur, Guindy, IIITH etc, but one should remember that once you drop down the college level even with CSE the salaries are likely to drop sharply. To suggest, my data being limited, if you studied in Ramaiah well the top salary might be yet 25–30 but the average will drop dramatically and if you are in the top 50 in RVCE you are much better than being top 10 of Ramaiah.So the original discussion of RVCE vs MIT needs lots of comments from MIT folks as data is not freely available there to the best of my knowledge. To me, I dont care about any of these colleges. I studied in IITM and IISc and know the worth of good education. I am happy that without slogging too badly (mainly because of being a top athlete) my son who could move into RVCE by COMEDK could find his way and I am sure the proof of the pudding will be known in the next year or so. However the comparisons I am providing are more as guidance to parents and students alike.So if your child is a prodigy with no other interests say in sports etc then going to IIT is the way, but yet if your child can only get a Mechanical seat in IIT Hyderabad but can get a CSE seat in RVCE then my message should help. If you got pharmacy in BITS Pilani, I wont take it and forget other BITS campus. If you want the best to learn in a field of interest say Mechanical always join the IIT vs a state top college. However the situation in this country is so skewed that if salary means anything to you then you should shift to CSE in the best available college, atleast ECE to save your skin. In simple dont assume the tag IIT or NIT will save you in the job world. Again CSE from the not top state college may not save you. I would not have admitted my son to say Dayanand Sagar college for CSE even if it was for free and worse still would not go there for other branches. I know a girl who is in UVCE ECE and she is happy to have got an intership in Wipro. In RVCE the top 150 CSE folks may never attend Wipro interview though they get paid a bit more than UVCE. So remember it all depends on how good you are, how well you study for the 4 years and where you study. So joining RVCE CSE by Management is fine if your child can manage the competition and stay in the top 50% but well what many dont know is RVCE mercilessly fail useless students and the Management guy may only be paying the college money, but may never pass out and even if they did may not be eligible for placement.So as a parent your child matters, not college.Remember, if you are sitting with the best and you are good you can improve. That is the logic my son chose to take RVCE ECE vs BMS CS and he upgraded to CSE by performance and is doing great. Anyway an add on.RVCE placement seems to have spent lots of efforts in getting too many internships this year. I am not sure if it is their efforts or just that companies in the SW line are desperate to pick up good folks at the earliest, PROBABLY BECAUSE OF A NEW UP PHASE IN THE SW INDUSTRY. I made that statement since I remember hearing on CNBC that a bunch of behemoths of the Wipro,TCS,Infosys variety are planning to jack their entry salaries by 40% or so. That means a huge demand is cropping up, dont know why!As on date my data shows that at least 52 RVCE students (33 from CSE and 11 from ISE) have got interships. This does not include the non circuit branch interships which may add another 10 max! These are paid interships for the coming summer and I would bet 90% of them will mean a job in hand. My son is in that 52, not to mention details. The intership stipends range pm from Rs 20K in the worst case to as high as Rs1.3L as in Arcesium a Hyderabad based company who seem to have promised a 60L salary. While quite a few of the high paying interships are what can be called as Application work very often Front end work, the hardcore SW companies what my son will like to call as Computer Science jobs are paying relatively lesser but are preferred by serious students like the one at home! So for a Arcesium paying 60L a Samsung may pay only 25L but with CS work. Typical stipend is in the range of Rs 40 to 50K pm. Lots of internships are yet to happen and btw things are going it is going to be a big placement season in July August at RVCE.3April2019Based on data so far collected (Internships have come to an end with about 5 companies not completing the process yet and with Job application and tests having begun for some pro active companies like JP Morgan and Bosch) the data stands as belowTotal internships procured = 82 (52 CS and 13 IS and 8 ECE)Average internship salary = 51k (so salary average must be around 1.2–1.5L if I guess right for these companies)Regarding interships in IISc and the likes, there are a few but I am not tracking. One of the options was with Florida Internal Univ, dont know if anyone took it or if it is worth the quality for the serious guys but they pay 5K USD plus weekly food allowance+stay+travel. 5K USD is for adding to your assets! LOL!Quite a few folks in the passing out batch 2019 seem to be going to US and other places for Masters particularly from CSE/ISE including CMU. Dont have details as these are not tracked by RVCE seriously like they do with placements. In fact my data shows that at least 10–15 of the CSE guys go abroad for higher studies but my figures are not necessarily accurate. Given all the above data if your ward is capable of delivering then RVCE is a better bet than most of the non top 5 IIT colleges especially given the advantage of Bangalore. (Am I triggering ISM and BITS Hyderabad guys! OOPS!).17 May 2019Having said so many things so far, I want to add a couple of points, especially with college season beginning and too many upvotes in the past few days.You can check out RVCE site Admission section and find an exact quote for Management seats. Should give a feel for what is in demand. CSE costs 10L + 8.5Lx4 = 44L plus some other fees. I will guess if you want CSE by management you should be prepared to shell around 50–60L for four years. Is it worth it? If your child is brilliant, you have money and your child missed the bus (say in terms of ranks, say got 20K rank in Advanced or say got 2K rank in COMEDK but was because he/she was busy say in sports etc) and you want to give the child a chance then go ahead. Otherwise please dont imagine it benefits. RVCE shows no mercy to management seat students, they fail them with the same concern as with CET/COMEDK students. So your child might end up with a 3 or 4L job. Is it worth 50L for a 4L job is your problem? (There are many shady parents who will yet find it cute, I met a boy long ago in 1990s who said he studied so that he can inherit his father’s business. He in fact left his purse behind when he got off the bus and I had to call him back and give it, utter disregard for anything!)RVCE CSE, IS, ECE guys get Cisco jobs for a song. That is where there averages in placement increases. Typically about 14L and guess what, last year 58 got CISCO in the first round and Cisco came for a second round and must have taken a dozen more! Again, that is for the 8+ point guys, preferably 8.5+ guys. My stats shows that about 40 guys in the current batch (of my son) have 9+ in CSE. So Cisco is not that easy and 8+ is for the special case. Typical job for the lower rung will be a HP or IBM (that may alo become difficult with time I suspect!). That leaves you the typical Infy, TCS, Wipro etc jobs which pay 3 to 4L for the guys who dont get even the 8+.Finally salaries I discussed earlier have a terrible catch. I will explain with an example. Atlasian the company that gave the maximum salary for the current batch of RVCE stated 48L which became 50L. Now let us understand what it means. It is a fixed salary of about 17L and 50K USD stock options. With rupee depreciating the 48L went to 50+L or whatever. Now the 50K USD is not available after one year. I believe it is 4 years. So we are talking about 12.5K USD +17L which is about 25L after year 1. This is the story about not just RVCE but about IITs and the rest. Stock options are a catch. Suppose Atlasian gave you every year 50K USD stocks or more than after 4 years your salary will be 48L and above, but I dont know if the stock options will be given in equal measure after every year. So typically the best salary in most Indian jobs that you get to Pay Tax On at the end of the first year hovers around 25L and a good salary hovers around 15L to 20L. So while calculating ROI use this figure. Dont be fooled by Arcecium 60L though in that case the number is higher than 25L, I am told! The story holds on for US jobs as well and again dont forget the cost of living in US. So a 100K USD job in US is really not as good as say a 25L job in India.Also Cisco in IIT Madras might state a 25L job but that is the same base salary as RVCE (14L or so) plus stocks. Similar with most other companies. In the lower rung colleges the job might itself be an inferior one. So as an example Cisco might give SW 1 for RVCE with 14L and same SW 1 with stocks for IIT, but might give SW -1 (whatever it means!) to the guy from some Dayanand Sagar and his salary will be probably 6L. I am explaining the concept not the actual values. So RVCE gets you on par with the so called Tier 1 colleges, while the BNMIT and Dayanand Sagars put you below.29th May 2019The problem I am facing is that with College season about to begin not only do I get upvotes but also get abuses. In the middle of it, I find one lady actually analyzing and finding that I am genuinely a parent. So I am forced to extend my write up more.I want to charge RVCE since folks believe I am sponsored by them. In fact I mention this to my son! LOL! Very soon with some parents asking for advice on which college their child needs to be put in, I will be called a consultant. Maybe I should charge them! (ROFTL!)Just because MIT or BITS admit students without reservation or management quota (they have NRI quota anyway in MIT) does not mean they are superior. It just means that they have their way of making money. Full stop.Comparing colleges is a difficult job and one has to chose what is best for the individual. In fact a question I will like to ask is what do you want to do after the choice. For example PESIT has a deal with USC and that lets a student go for an internship there pretty easily. Does not mean they get aid when they seek admission at the end of 4 years. To me the criteria for a college is by what I will call Technical Analysis, by the demand for it from the best available candidates. Post that I will look a the demand for the output of the college from the best available employers. Based on that is most of my above argument.If your classmate has come in by Reservation or Management does not mean that your college is bad. It only means that you can get into the college by merit or otherwise. However if the best of Karnataka yet choose to go to RVCE over say MIT then who cares. IITs have had reservation for a very very long time. I had SC/ST classmates. Only that they were not eligible to fill their quota unless they reached a cutoff of about 1/3 the GM cutoff. Since they were my classmates, do I become bad or the BITS Pilani friends of mine, who did not get into IITs were better because they did not have reservation.Finally I will stop writing about RVCE potentially in mid 2020 as my son will be out of the college and might write about something else. As I casually remarked maybe I will write about MIT but this is the Indian ones, got it! For example QS rankings says a bunch of BS while USNEWS gives another bunch of rankings. Do we conclude something based on that? Well I will prefer my son to go to what suits his needs based on his abilities.In summary the above write up is my view of RVCE and I started it in 2016 along with my son’s admission and am continuing with it. Let me begin with some education on what salaries quoted in India mean. As I explained earlier if say Microsoft paid 39L as so called CTC, then it means they are probably paying 18L + 21L stocks and the 21L will come in over 4 years. Even the 18L might have a component of 1 or 2L that might come after 2 years and some of the remaining might also be performance based. Now this story extends to international salaries I bet the world over. So if you read some IITian got 2Cr salary, it might be in London or SFO and that might be 80L salary+30Lx4years. 80L salary might look great but that might mean 100K Pounds or 120K USD and in US the tax will eat up almost 35% and if you live decently as your expected to, the cost will take up 35% in SFO and you will get 24L to save typically. Ofcourse the 30L stocks will add in the end of the year.Why this story? That is because many parents and freshers and even seniors are stunned by silly numbers. I remember way back in 2016 during COMEDK placement one gentleman wanted his ward to take RVCE ISE because it gave (hund red thousand dallars…if I repeat his words from my son’s memory). While that is not too wrong, it is not too right as well.Now my new story is about a data I got from internet that 14 guys have got 29L salary in Cisco and that is not RVCE but NIE Mysore. While the same salary is offered in RVCE this year, the placement has not begun yet and if the number of folks to be selected here is a repeat of last year it will mean 60–70 RVCE guys with 29L salary. I have no idea if that will happen, but even if half that number got it, the average salary of RVCE for CSE will bounce from 11.5L to maybe 20L. Now does this give the BITS Hyderabad folks a feeling of irritation, I dont know, but then the truth is NIE average will simply have gone over the roof with this recruitment. Does this mean that NIE is great or has become great?In our country many decisions are done by hear say and this is one. My info. also tells me that CISCO has about 150 interns from various colleges across India (about 18 or so, mostly from South) and plan to get in around 500 totally based on how many interns take the offer . If all these offers are 29L is another question. However all this info shows two points.a. Cisco deal of 29L in realilty is just a little more than their earlier deal of 13.5L. Now it is about 14.5L + another equal amount divided by 4. However the magic of sales of CTC looks big. In reality the amount one can pocket after 1 year including PF and Gratuity and assuming full performance bonus is around 17L, not 29L. To get the 29L you need to stick there for 4 years.b. This sort of jumps happen across companies. Microsoft was giving 9L even 2 years back and jacked it to 39L last year. So all companies with a want to pick the best and to get the first slot of interviews in good colleges are playing this CTC game. There are others like Goldman Sachs who might give you 22L truly; if you get the full performance bonus but that may look lesser than 29L or 39L. As parents and students it is better to find a job that fits you. For someone inclined in good CS work Cisco will yet be brilliant job and someone interested in Financials might like GS job and somebody wanting to get a good spouse might want MS job! LOL!c. Finally this 29L was offered in IIT Bombay last year, now it has not reached NITs and RVCE but even NIE. So does it mean IIT Bombay is bad or just equal to NIE? I did hit upon a MS Student in IIT Madras doing Aero (I happened to drop into my B.Tech branch after many years last week and this boy would not let go of me and had a nice time talking to this person). He having passed out of BITS Hyderabad Mech, and being a 2009 intake of BITS (when IITs were not having tooooo many seats and he should be relatively better than any input nowadays to BITS or anywhere!) said that BITS gave him a job though quality of work in the job after a year made him drift to MS at IITM Aero and now getting a job is becoming tough in IIT Madras. When I told him that in my times all of us B.Techs, got a HAL job by default (I had 4 jobs and even dropped out of final interview in Texas Instruments since I was joining CSE M.E. in IISc), he said B.Techs dont get core jobs any longer in IITs. I checked the stats on IIT website and they dont claim more than 90% or so placement even for CSE B.Techs. Also companies seem to prefer Masters (Dual degrees and M.Techs) over B.Techs. All these probably because IIT B.Techs are no longer any smarter (too many seats, people prepare from 7th and most have lost ability to think, they can only repeat or if you go by BITSAT can repeat at a faster rate than others!) and THEY THINK THEY ARE BIG, might have made many organisations including Govt. PSUs and Research Org from recruiting in IITs especially B.Techs who may not join them and even if they joined maybe stay for 1 year.In summary dont get carried away by brands. In my times getting into IIT was not by studying from 7th. I was taught to think in my family and IIT encouraged it. Today people do hacker rank and mug methods and become top coders. Entrance exams are not able to detect the best. So if your child is good, they will find their way. The only tip that I can give (the BITS/IITM guy was not willing to agree with my above views about heavy preparation but agreed with this tip!) you for sure is, branch seems to make a difference. For example, he said that IIT Madras Mech guys dont get any great core jobs, but consultancy jobs like Deloitte and Touche which give my MIT Mech cousin’s daughter 6L give IITians 16L, maybe with stocks. So if you want at least imaginary money (CTC), then do B.Tech in top IITs in any damn branch or do ONLY CSE in next level colleges. Also being in Karnataka and Bangalore makes a lot of benefit as catchment companies are plenty here. So NIE in Mysore is better than say a better college located in say Pune.While my above discussion has gone beyond MIT and RVCE and what not, the education to parents and kids is simple, and I used the same logic for my son. If you want your preferred branch better be in THE TOP COLLEGES, no less than top 8 IITs and top 3 NITS and maybe BITS Pilani campus. Otherwise it is CSE or worst case ECE in the next set of colleges. Always South Indian colleges are better. So going by that logic, though BITS Hyderabad fills last in BITSAT and is left with the leftovers who did not get through JEE, Mains, even COMEDKs and so on, they are in Hyderabad which though not as good as Bangalore but has pretty fine CS jobs environment, will get good averages for CSE. Does not mean that BITS Hyderabad is any better but with catchment benefit of Hyderabad will get jobs.So go by BRANCH namely CSE if your goal is job in India. Otherwise go to the top colleges and study and go abroad. Also prefer South Indian colleges with Software environment (like Bangalore or Hyderabad) to others.Will update on placement progress in RVCE as it happens when I find time.18Jul2019I think it is time I wind up this over lengthy message with 178 votes as on date, with the following info. Based on data I have till yesterday, 20 RVCE 3rd years mostly CSE have been placed before the Placement season has begun in what is called as PPO (Pre placement offer) with an average salary of 20L in 4 jobs. More are likely to follow and placement is likely to begin next Monday with Atlasian. Those who have PPO are not going to attack the Atlasians and other jobs and will not get to feel the placement season.I remember paying my son his COMEDK fees on allotment exactly 3 years and 1 day ago and yesterday he is one of those placed. While I dont want to provide details, I can say that the value 20L above is likely to be atleast 30% above the real value (as I discussed earlier about CTC). So even if you assume the typical payout annually for these 20 are around 13L, they should be able to fend for themselves in life and even be able to take care of their dependent parents if any, who might have zero wealth as long as they are paid the next year fees and fed to finish the course. So that makes me feel happy that I am done with my son and as I said I can throw him out to fend for himself and worse still even if his parents are in the streets he can yet take care of them and after all that can even make a well to do, life earning good money. However in my case, may be the fellow might not actually go for the job and it might yet cost me to pay his higher studies abroad until he gets some TA/RA. So I yet cant say adios to him. However I am sure my choice of RVCE was perfectly right and as I tell him, even if he wasted more time studying in his XI/XII (he was a National athlete) and even got a say 2K rank in JEE Advanced (he got 7 times that rank fortunately!) and landed typically in IITM Mech, life might not have got any better. ADIOS.22Jul2019 Updating interesting Placement Statistics which I bet the RVCE Placement department would not have calculated yet!!Including Atlasian offer for 3 (value same as before), 36 are placed including PPO and JOB (that is the statistic I will provide by default) at an average of 23.95L. If you leave the 9 offers in ISE the CSE department average is 24.80L. So the FIRST 27 CSE grad of RVCE have a 24.80L average. If you knock out the bottom 2 jobs in this list then the top 27 in RVCE get a whopping average of 27.72L. All are Indian salaries, not Japanese, East Asian or US based jobs. Japanese jobs do come and one is waiting to happen but their figures of 20 to 30L mean no sense given the cost of living in those countries. Again some of them provide accomodation and travel in addition to this CTC. This bests out the averages in CSE in quite a few IITs for sure, however their top 27 will be way ahead of this number. The conclusion is that the top 3% of RVCE is getting paid better than the average in the top IITs, so if you get into RVCE CSE or ISE and you are in the top 27 out of 270 (10%) it is better than studying in say Mechanical in IIT Madras in terms of salary. So go to IITs to study not for salaries. Also talking about reservation or not say in BITS especially the non Pilani ones means nothing, if you are the cream of RVCE. So next time think before one makes generic statements especially folks from BITS Hyderabad and ISM Dhanbad! Always remember that these numbers are all fake in the sense CTC makes non true sense but that is the case everywhere, as they include stock options.PS. Not give placement statistics compiled by their placement department which are highly managed both positively and negatively.26July2019 After about 1week of Placement in RVCE, 95 Jobs have been got (including 12 internships, which will hopefully become jobs in Cisco which is the bulk of the numbers anyway). The average is 24.4L. The high number is due to Cisco giving the revised package. The job distribution is 54CSE,17ISE,18ECE,2TCE and 4IEM.4Aug2019 Whatever data I provide is primarily circuit branches as I dont have access as of now to the progress of the non circuit branches. After 2 weeks, 12 companies have given 55 PPOs (some like Boeing were summarily rejected by many students, due to less than 10L pay) with average pay of 19L. If you remove those low payers the average is around 22L. Also 7 companies have given 89 offers at an average pay of 25L. Overall 144 jobs at an average of 22.5L is the current total. This excludes non circuit jobs for sure, but hardly matters as they may not be more than 10 at this point of time. Aside TOI published an article on the jobs of RV, BMS and MSRIT each claiming great numbers. The numbers of BMS of 48L in Cohesity is more presentation. They only claim 22L in RVCE. The reason is their real pay is 13L but the rest of 35L is stocks. One might think that is similar to Atlasian but the truth is Cohesity has no listings. Just VC evaluation. So their stocks are worth ZERO in reality. You cant take them and leave when they vest. There are quite a few startups in RVCE too claiming 20L but in reality they are dangerous. Anyway whatever data I provided includes all of them. That is the truth in all colleges including IITs.8Aug2019 As of now 80 CSE students out of around 200 are placed at an average of 22.3L. That is 40% are at 22L approx. So even if the rest of 120 dont get placed (normally in that case all colleges dont count them) even then average is 8.8L. I hope all those big talkers from other colleges who claim their own Tier 1 status and all BS need notice it. Now if the 60% get 3L typical Mass Recruiter Salary then the average is 10.6L. I know so far the lowest salary is around 8L. So if the rest have only 8L then average is 13.6L. My guess is the rest are going to average around 10L so the final figure is going to be around 15L. Now one must note it is not those who got into RVCE by CET or COMEDK who are in the unplaced group as of now. The major crowd is Diploma intakes and Management quota. That is around 75 fall in that category. So the summary is if you joined RVCE CSE by merit via CET or COMEDK you are likely to have an average salary of 22L approximately. I just hope those braggos of BITS Hyderabad and ISM Dhanbad and the likes take note of this.1Sep2019 All branches put together have 258jobs at 18.58. My data unfortunately includes jobs where CSE can participate, so the number of jobs I understand could be higher since that will include jobs exclusively for Civil or Mechanical etc and the average might have come down. For CSE the 122 are placed at an average of 18.67. I understand I have missed around 3 more CSE jobs data. CTS the first low end payer has stepped in a day or two ago and that may drag down the average if there are fellows to join it. The only important point this year is that jobs for the high end student is going up steeply while jobs for the low end student is disappearing. Most of the also ran college with CSE and even better ones with non CSE are not getting placed at all!18Oct2019 As on 2nd Oct RVCE data stated that 177 out of 215 CSE folks got placed but my data only showed 167. Obviously some information is being missed by me (rather by my son in his mailing list!). Continuing with this logic as per my data as on date, 174CSE and 42ISE have got placed. 101ECE have also got placed but my data for ECE may not be complete since there are jobs where CS/IS cant sit for ECE jobs. As per my data, CSE average as of now stands at 15.16L. That is very high compared to last year where it ended at about 11.5L. The overall average for all branches (this data might be highly inaccurate and what I have for other branches is the data where CS can sit for the same job…so read it as jobs for all branches in CSE related jobs) is around 11.67 for 520 people. Infosys and CTS have junked in around 150 people at peanut rates. These are included in above data. In summary, if you are in CS, IS or EC in RVCE and fall in the top 50% of your class then you are likely to have a 10L+ job for sure. However if you are the bottom of the class you will yet face the difficulties that others face and that is true even if you are in an IIT. I will like to add that the branches not suitable in general from job perspective as on date are Chemical, Instrumentation, Civil, Biotech and IEM in the order of decreasing difficulty. So taking a Chemical seat is dangerous even in RVCE and if you got to a lower college you are really in deep trouble. Adios.28Oct2019 Current data shows that about 150 jobs have come to RVCE for placement (particularly for CSE) and about 60 of them pay more than 10L. 232 people have got above 10L. I bet that is encouraging. However this would have been filled with CS,IS,EC guys primarily. 157 have got above 15L, 90 have got above 20L, 58 above 25L, 57 above 29L and 6 above 40L. Remember Cisco was one of the largest recruiter and pays 29.2L.For those trying to irritate me by sending unwanted comments and assuming I am paid by RVCE, please be clear that if RVCE pays me it will be great, say 50L! LOL!. The truth is I care two hoots for RVCE beyond the fact that my son studies there. Cheers.10Feb2020 A strange update, so I thought I will write. I come to know that Target has taken about 6 folks and one of them is a SC girl who was a classmate of my son in first year ECE (my son changed branch later). She was just being let to pass very often as she scraped the tests. I must add however that does not mean she is bad, she had a rank of 3000 or so in CET. The others selected were also of strange quality, maybe managment quota and the like. The point I want to make is that this year the placement for CSE and allied branches in RVCE is just too good. Target incidentally pays about 13L and these are genuine numbers at the end of the year. This year there is a huge demand for students from decent colleges is what I suspect. Dont bet on this if you are joining RVCE using management that too into ECE. When you pass out it might be a bad year; who knows?

These two streams have the same (atmospheric) pressure as the still air around them.The error is that you have the false principle.You have one of the most common misconceptions and false science principles known.The short answer is that Fast moving fluid simply DOES NOT have (nor create) a lower pressure than some nearby "still or slower air".A higher pressure region pushes (accelerates) air toward any nearby lower pressure regions. (a negative acceleration will also slow it, or it can be accelerated from a stop). Note that this is an increase in speed which is ACCELERATION. This is KEY! An acceleration means that any given small particle of the fluid changes velocity AS IT MOVES ALONG. All bits of fluid along that SAME PATH do the same thing.This is too often misinterpreted as being applicable to two completely different streams of fluid having different speeds - that is a false application of Bernoulli as well as false use of mathematics. A bit of air moving along one path cannot be related to another bit of air moving along a completely different path. This is not any kind of acceleration or speed "change" . They are simply different speeds of different flows...Most of the demonstrations that purport to prove this are also misinterpreted because there are factors that are not taken into consideration; usually a curved path of the air which is an acceleration which requires a radial force of a pressure difference. That pressure difference is caused by the fact that the air must flow around the object. An object moving through air (a fluid) pushes some out of the way. This must be obvious. To do that push it simply increases the pressure at one point. Pressure is the ONLY mechanism there is to provide a force in a fluid. Air has mass, so there must be a pressure difference (force) to accelerate (change the velocity) the mass of air...I usually see several answers, some a high level, some incorrect.The conservation of energy explanation is pretty weak and rather indirect. The concept that a "Fast moving fluid creates a lower pressure" is a serious misinterpretation of Bernoulli's Equation that has persisted for quite some time, is repeated ad nauseam and actually violates fundamental principles. Those who repeat it are only parroting it without understanding it. This "Fast Air" thing is NOT another fundamental principle to be memorized like Newton's laws of motion.....Also, remember that Velocity has both speed and direction - this is also KEY! They do apply, but in many common situations they are negligible.)..Too many fundamental principles are being violated by these common, incorrect versions.....Now, A fast stream of, say air, out of some kind of blower is pushed out of the blower by higher pressure INSIDE the blower. It then moves into a lower pressure region outside the blower which is frequently the normal atmospheric pressure around us. That is where Bernoulli appears; at the blower exit, NOT after that! It increases speed from the high pressure in the blower into the lower, atmospheric pressure outside the blower. That is why it is traveling faster in the lower pressure region. Pretty much just Newton and we cannot violate Newton!If this "Fast Air" thing was actually true, then any and all moving air would be squeezed into a smaller and smaller stream as long as it was moving and we easily see that is does not...We must know one fundamental principle of fluids; Pressure at a point is exerted al ALL DIRECTIONS. This conflicts with comments from another commenter here. This fundamental cannot be violated either..The inward pressure of the atmosphere outside the stream is balanced by the same pressure inside the stream pressing outward...Another fallacy I see repeated here is that the moving fluid has less time to exert pressure because any one molecule is in contact less time before moving off the surface. This ignores the fact that as one bit of air moves off, it is replaced by another bit coming in, so the number of "molecule impacts per time" is constant, not less...Another fallacy is that the horizontal velocity of this "Fasr Air" somehow reduces the velocity toward the surface. This ignores the fact that velocities add vectorially. If something moving down at 1 m/s is then accelerated horizontally at 1 m/s, the vertical velocity is not changed. The net velocity is now 1.414 m/s diagonally; 1 down and 1 horizontal. An example is that the orbital speed of a satellite is un affected by the (always perpendicular) force of gravity. It travels at a constant (tangential) speed, but constantly being accelerated inward...Finally, remember that Velocity has direction? Well, if air is forced to move in a curve (as it moves around some object) it has a force toward the center of the curve...You also MUST realize that we live in a pressurized atmosphere and that the pressure is inward toward any surface. This is why air tries to follow the curved surface of a ball or wing. It is pushed against the surface by atmospheric pressure. The air's inertia tries to keep the air flowing in a straight line. It is simply these two facts that cause the pressure change in the flow along a convex surface (a decrease at the surface). The air is, in effect 'pulling away' from the surface, thus lowering the pressure...Therefore, it is NOT speed, but a CURVED PATH OF THE AIR that shows that there is a decrease in pressure above a wing. This is ALSO CRITICAL to understanding lift. The pressure difference is the CAUSE of the curved path of air. Focusing only on the wing shape takes away the real focus which should be on the path the air is forced to take by any wing WHICH IS A CURVED PATH and therefore caused by the pressure differences around the object. Relative motion between an object and the air directly creates the pressure differences...no Bernoulli, no fast air nonsense...A simple way to see this is to consider that the upper wing surface is moving away from where the air "wants to be". The air "wants to be" away from the wing either because it was traveling straight and the surface curves away from that path, or it was still and the wing moved by it in a downward direction. This last this is actually what is happening - wing moving through still air. In fact, the real science is that the air over a wing is not "sped up" toward the trailing edge; it is only accelerated downward behind the wing. The air below the wing it pretty much dragged along with the wing due to the pressure increase as well as being pushed downward...In addition, the increase in pressure below a wing is caused by the simple fact that this surface is mostly traveling TOWARD some air and, therefore pushing on it which is increasing the pressure under the wing...The higher pressure in the larger diameter of the venturi pushes the fluid into the lower pressure of the narrower section. It is the restriction of that narrow region that increases the pressure in the wide section and the narrow section is just like a hole in a pressurized tank where the pressure pushes the fluid out to a lower pressure region...When you put your finger over the end of the garden hose, you block it and that INCREASES the pressure. Since pressure is force per area, there is more force on that smaller (area than there was on that same small part of the previously wider) opening and that is why it squirts further - more pressure. If the water squirts further, it Must have a higher velocity and that can only come from an increased pressure. If your finger were to cut the opening area to half and the pressure was the same, that water is now half the amount and it would have half the force and, therefore, be accelerated the same and still squirt the same distance. However, since it squirts further, the pressure must have increased.Think about all this correctly and it will make sense.You absolutely cannot cherry pick the fundamental principles used to explain science. Everything that applies must be included.No matter how many times the bad explanations are repeated, this does not make them true science...Blowing over the curved paper, blowing past two balloons or soda cans proves that a curved path is due to a pressure difference, NOT the "Fast Air" nonsense...Sorry if you along with so many others, have been misled.Science fits so beautifully together.
