Because it is from proto Dravidian that all subsequent Dravidian languages have developed including Tamil. The main credit that I will give Tamil people is that they are rightfully very vocal that their language is very distinct from Sanskrit and belongs to a different linguistic family. Nowadays Kannada and Telugu people realize their language belongs to a different language family from Sanskrit but they don’t think it is a big deal except for a select few. If Sanskritists have their way, in a century or two they will make Kannada and Telugu people feel that Sanskrit is the Mother of their languages too. There will be no resistance from AP/T and Karnataka in this matter.

Honestly I dont know, actually nobody does but I can say how it works.The closing ranks of AIIMS Bhubaneswar depends on students mainly from 5 states :1. AP2. Telangana3. Kerala4. Odisha5. West BengalThe toppers will join AIIMS Delhi.Next the first 3 state students and WB will choose JIPMER Puducherry. WB students may take up AIIMS Bhubaneswar over it.After that APTK will take AIIMS Bhubaneswar over their state colleges. For most obvious reasons, they generally do not take Delhi colleges.For WB & Odisha, they may/will prefer Delhi colleges over AIIMS(MAMC, VMMC, UCMS, LHMC) then they will turn towards AIIMS Bhubaneswar. WB Students will obviously choose AIIMS because PG State Reservations are not lost on joining AIIMS for WB.I heard AP & T have really performed well so the cutoffs may go high. But I would keep a guess of AIR 500–600 closing for 1st counseling.The last cutoffs maybe around AIR 750–850.

Historically they realized early on that Sanskrit language which was spreading like wildfire all over India belonged to a different language group. Consequently they never accepted Sanskrit as a superior language and also considered it as an alien language. Also the Brahmins who migrated to Tamil lands considered themselves as superior and looked down upon all non Brahmin Tamils as inferior and called them collectively as “choothran”. The Tamil people considered this as an insult and as a reaction clung on to their Tamil language with even more stubbornness. Also they had in their collection , Tamil poems like Thevaram in praise of Lord Siva , and also poems in praise of their favourite Tamil God Murugan (Kanda) and their village deities like “Muniandi” and “Karupanasami”. These village deities were shunned by the Brahmins as plague. This happened to be a blessing in disguise as the native Tamils could sing their favourite Tamil songs with great devotion and pour out their feelings in front of these deities.It has to be noted also that all other southern Indian states like Kerala, Karnataka, AP/T had no problems in accepting the Sanskrit language and considering it as a “Devabhasha”.Also it is wrong to assume that Tamil people want to dominate the whole of South India. They are only concerned about ‘Namma Tamilnadu” (Our Tamilnadu).
