PDF Editor FAQ

Which Credit card would be good to apply in India?

I will give you a very honest answer from the perspective of a middle class salaried person residing in a non-metro city.Parameters-No annual charges. Some cards like Standard chartered Manhattan and Platinum Elite charge 1000 and 5000 respectively from second year onwards.. Imagine you don't use your credit card for a year, still you have to shell out the annual fees. Similarly avoid HDFC Diners, Axis bank buzz credit card,SBI signature ,Amex Gold Card and so on. Avoid all credit cards offered by Amex and standard chartered.Reward points and cashback- don't be fooled by 10x ,20x rewards program. These are marketing traps to lure you so that you spend more.Late payment charges. Go for the card which levies minimum penalty. My personal experience with Citibank credit card is not a cordial one. If by chance you miss the payment due date, they won't send any reminder smses or call you back to remind you.Ease of reaching out to customer care when u need. In this aspect Citibank is the worst. Their credit card business is controlled by their Chennai office. For every silly little thing you have to call the Chennai call center who has no clue to what's happening in the Rest of India. In fact if u wanted to redeem your reward points, you have to call Chennai.Nothing happens online for Citibank credit card. HDFC customer service is best in this regard.Avoid taking credit cards offered by small banks like Ratnakar Bank,Kotak-Mahindra,IndusInd Bank,ING Vysya Bank.Choose a card with zero/ below 500 annual charges and zero application charges. Here is the final list of the best credit cards available in India.SBI Simply click & Simply Save,HSBC platinum,HDFC Signature credit card ( use this only if you hold an account with HDFC Bank)ICICI Bank Platinum Chip Visa Credit CardAs of August 2019, one of my friend is using HDFC Regalia and fortunately he doesn't have to pay any Annual charges . Also it allows a free airport lounge access per quarter. I think this is the best card available in the market.

Has anyone availed the new Amazon Pay credit card by ICICI? Is it good?

Undoubtedly Yes. Might not be the best in the market but definitely one of the best! Much more beneficial if you have Amazon Prime membership. No annual fees (Zero) and there are offers on issuance on new cards (Rs 500 amazon pay balance). At least 1 point (equal to rs 1) for every 100 spent. I have a sbi prime card with 3k annual fess, it gives only 50 paise for 100 spent.5 % for prime and 3 % for non-prime for all physical goods purchase on Amazon.in.2 % on all partner sites where amazon pay is accepted such as make my trip , bookmyshow, swiggy and many others when you pay with this card.Rewards added directly to your Amazon account each month as Amazon Pay Balance (Cashback) when your statement is generated. You can see transaction level reward points thorough icici app which no other credit card does (Let me know if you know any credit card who does this.)Answering Some of the question asked in Comments :Can I use this card for offline transactions? Ans : Yes, You will get flat 1 pc back on all offline payments. Are other bank related offers always available on this card on Amazon sale and other type of deals? Ans : Yes, it will be added advantage. Mostly all ICICI credit card offers will be applicable here as well. Will there be any difference or extra privileges if the applying customer already has ICICI account or not(mines SBI account)? Ans : You have to complete your KYC if you are not an icici bank customer. No cost emi is available for all products (minimum amount being 3k)? Yes, on Amazon for 3 & 6 month tenures.Apart from that does it provide entry pass for Airport lounges? Like HDFC does. Or any other benefits like Swiggy, zomato points as in HDFC, city bank, HSBC cards? So petrol/diesel will have a discount? And Dining bills? - Not as of nowAnd EMI tenures are of 3 and 6 Months only? - Only for no cost EMI.How is the card limit determined if I apply? Ans : Will be decided by bank.Cashbacks won't get expired right in Amazon pay balance? Ans : Every month your cumulative rewards points will be added to Amazon pay balance as Gift card (Which anyways have 1 year expiry). So it’s definitely worth. Please comment if you need any other info. Using it from more than a year, Very rewarding experience. Thanks.

What happens if I leave Dubai without paying a credit card?

I had a very unpleasant experience with this, even though I did not really leave any debt.Long storyWhile in Bahrain I had an HSBC status account that provided me with 2 credit cards with slightly larger credit limits than normal. Due to a negative experience in my workplace that resulted in multiple delayed payments I became dependent on my credit card to pay for my daily expenses.Eventually I quit the job as it was too painful to continue. With the settled accounts, I went to my HSBC branch and cleared off all outstanding payments. I sat with the relationship manager, over a few days, verified all payments have been accounted for and cleared every penny (or fils/ dinar as would be the currency in Bahrain). I surrendered the cards with a letter, with the assurance that the procedure was needed to block the cards and close them forever. My primary savings account, also with HSBC, was kept as is in case of future use. With all repeated assurances that the cards will be blocked and closed I left for India, my home country. Getting busy with work at hand I forgot about the existence of the account when suddenly after nearly 2 years I got a call out of the blue claiming I had outstanding payments to be made, which of course I refuted. My primary details were available to them because I had provided the same to the bank as an expat required to do so.Apparently I had nearly 4000 Dinars worth of money to be paid - nearly USD 10,500. I got concerned because I assumed fraud and I was diligent enough to take care of everything before I left - I did not want to leave any bad debts. It took me multiple calls to the HSBC dubai office at my personal expense to check the source of these charges eventually realising that the majority of the supposed debt was an accumulation of compounded interest and non payment/ service charges over the period of 2 years - on an initial charge of about 40 USD paid to an online hosting service provider. This charge was actually an automated charge which should have been deniedbecause I had requested for the credit cards to be blocked and cancelled formally. I expected this had already been done.I had already shifted out of the hosting provider and was not using their services. In actually I think the relationship manager took my cards and letter; and probably dumped them into a drawer (shelf) never to be seen. So the cards were never cancelled or blocked although they were no longer in my netbanking system that I used for sometime to keep an eye on my savings account. I was then still expecting some more remuneration from my company. The charges for hosting has occurred a few months after by which time I had stopped looking. Now HSBC was calling me to pay a very much larger amount instead. Initially it was pleasant as I tried to explain the scenario to someone within the bank. The lady was understanding and said she will look into the issue and revert. However there was no progress and one day she was no longer available. I had spent a good amount of money on my phone bills trying to sort this out and at this stage I left it to the bank to make the effort since I had communicated everything on call as well as in writing with some evidence of me initiating the closure process originally. So far so good as silence followed. 6–8 months later I started getting emails in a more threatening language to make up the payment. It also followed with rude calls to my home, often picked up by my elderly mother who got concerned with the abusive nature of the calls. I checked and found out that the contact was no longer from HSBC but instead from one of the recovery agencies to whom they might have passed on my details.Eventually I managed to be at home when they called and initially attempted to clarify what had happened and it was not upto me to make any payments. However seeing that there was not attempt to really listen and they were more hell bent on being rude and abusive, I asked them to F-O and do whatever they thought they could. The threatening calls included suggesting bodily harm to me and my family AS well as banning my entry to the ME - neither of which was points of concern to me. I told them to go ahead and try.The calls continued but eventually fizzled out when they realised I was not going to affected by their tone. However the attempt to reach me continued through all my emails and even facebook/ linked in profiles. By now it was a different secondary agency. I was getting friend requests and messages from different names - Ali, Ahmed, Mohammed etc… who tried to ask me if I was the same person. In the initial attempts I replied but this led immediately to the subject of recovery. The approach was soft but the moment I acknowledged them, the tone became rude and threatening. I started blocking or not accepting requests. This lasted for nearly 6 years till it trickled down to negligible. I still get occasional emails from different agencies now which I send to the junk folder.Coincidentally this started pretty much at the period HSBC was being investigated for shady dealings.ConclusionIt depends on you really. I know people who charged everything on the credit card and left without a bother. The details they had provided were all falsified or they just changed numbers etc. The amount they used the cards were substantially higher than the effort of changing phone numbers.I also knew many people who raised huge debts, went back to their homelands and returned with a different new passport to erase all past records. Such things are possible and was quite common. For me, I have learnt that being honest actually creates issues for you than not.Edit: This answer has given me my first 1000 upvotes. Thank you everyone everyone.Warning Edit Suggested by Virendra Kumar Soni. Thanks:When ever you request closing bank account, surrendering ATM card, Credit card, written application should be given and acknowledgement should be kept in records.
