Does anyone want to write their heart out here?

I think I will like to.See, this beautiful lady up there is my grandma, the one person in this world who loves me the most. Being her eldest grandkid, she has an explainable bond with me. I can confidently say that I had spent the most of my childhood with her. Whenever someone asked how much she wants to live , she always and always answered, “Mai Kanishka ki Shaadi dekhe Bina kahin nhi ja rhi !” (“I am not going anywhere before Kanishka's wedding!”) and sometimes my siblings and cousins used to argue with her that she should not differentiate among the kids but she never changed her statement.Never had I ever had a birthday in eighteen years without her “Gajar ka halwa”. She was the most modern grandmother I knew. Her favorite fast food was Momos. Never had she ever came back from a trip without bringing something for me, doesn't matter when I was a kid and expected her to , doesn't matter now. Never had I ever kept my hand on anything and she refused to buy it for me. Never had I ever visited any doctor in my life without her. Of course my mother always accompanied but she was the stronger one so may it a small thing like a fever or something as big as eye surgery, she was always there. Whenever I used to get the information that Dadi is cooking Kadi (an Indian curry) today, I skipped the breakfast. She was the most open minded person in my house, because of her I grew up with almost all liberties.Whenever I felt low, until this age, I used to lie down in her lap and her gentle stroking on my head would make me sleep, this had been my forever habit since I was 5 years old. She was my home. Why am I telling all this today? My grandmother is the strongest person I have known and was a proud cancer survivor from 2012.Until 3 months back this deadly disease came back and this time in the worst way possible. Brain, lungs, kidney everywhere. Long story short, she is at this time admitted in the ICU and counting her last breaths. She is in unimaginable pain from last one week and still not giving up. There is no hope left of course and each day seeing her kills me from inside.Although I know not much days are left of her , still I know I am not ready for it. My family members are already down in shatters and this is definitely the most difficult time in our life. I can't cry in front of my already vulnerable siblings. They are younger to me and already at their lowest points.I don't know when I got a proper sleep from days. I lie down and don’t remember when after hours sleep engulfs. Wake up almost daily with a panic attack. Literally drag myself out of bed, not wanting to face the day.And have to drag myself to college. Have to put aside everything there and put on a smile, because I can't kill the mood of my friends daily. They also have a life .But all is not negative, I have immersed myself into heavy reading. The books which were kept on my shelf from months, I have read almost all in a week. I usually wake up early in the morning , and do some exercise or am working on the tasks which I was procrastinating from months. It's just that I have shut a lot of feelings in myself right now. And sometimes I just feel if someone could hug me and I could cry as much as I want and clutter everything right inside me.This is surely a very hard time which everyone has to face sometime in life and I can't put my armor down yet.Yes, I did feel light after writing all this.If someone read until here, kudos.~ KANISHKAEdit 1: I lost her last Friday. I don't know what strength came into me that day. I was rock solid and the pillar of strength for my family. They all are going through a hard time. But today was her birthday. And she was the kind of person who on 2nd October used to start saying from morning that bring this flavor cake for me, used to cook special meals herself and the whole day passed in the blink of an eye. But today looked very long and empty. I missed her the most today. Although I did some little things which would make her happy where ever she is but she left a void no one ever can fill. :')

Have you ever "fired" a doctor? How did you go about leaving your doctor and finding another one?

Better than that. I am a disabled veteran and I was seeing blood clots in my urine so I went to my doctor at the VA. This Dr walks in the exam room and writes a prescription for 60 Vicodan with 4 refills. I took the script to the chief of staff of the VA hospital and I tossed the script across his desk and I demanded a new doctor and that the doctor who wrote the script get fired. I was given a new doctor on the spot and the doctor was fired the next day. If you are not your own advocate for your health care than you will get what you get I am afraid. I was so mad that day as there many old soldiers who would have filled the script and gotten themselves hooked on drugs.

How can I improve my writing skills?

Even if you don't start writing when you're young, it's never too late to start. In fact good writing skills are crucial to success, whether you want to be a professional writer, or if you're just looking for a job.Employers are looking for people with good communication skills and improving your writing is one way to make you stand out from the pack. Why Johnny can't write, and why employers are madI could give you some advice on how to write better (and I do have one tip), but I'd rather share advice from writers I admire. These writers are truly masters at the art of writing and you should listen to them.Advice from Fiction WritersNeil GaimanGaiman is the writer who helped define comics as a literary medium through his "Sandman" series. He went on to write "Neverwhere," "American Gods," "Stardust" and "The Graveyard Book." He's also written a couple of episodes of "Doctor Who" which is pretty damn cool. Here, Neil Gaiman talks about how he became a better writer at 23."What I did was work as a journalist. It forced me to write, to write in quantity, to write to deadline. It forced me to get better than I was, very fast.It got stuff I wrote into print. There is nothing for a young author that teaches you how to get better faster than reading something you wrote in print -- suddenly every mistake, every infelicity, every laziness, shows up as if in neon letters. And the process of transcribing conversations forced me to learn to write dialogue and learn the economies of getting speech patterns into just a few words. (Dialogue -- even "naturalistic dialogue" -- isn't how people speak. So you need to learn to distill.)And I was also lucky in finding myself with several book review columns, being forced to read and review everything, including stuff way out of my comfort zone, or books I simply would never have picked up. (I think writers should read from the shelves they wouldn't normally go.) And it was great reading stuff where I'd read something and go "I may be crap, but I'm better than this." (Working on Ghastly Beyond Belief was a great help on this, too.)Also I got to do some living. That bit was important too, and much of it was a side effect of being a journalist -- I got to see lots of bits of the world I hadn't known existed, and talk to people I would never otherwise have encountered. That was important too."what to do when you're crap at 23...Stephen KingAt this time, Stephen King has published 54 novels and over 200 short stories. He defines the prolific writer. His book "On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft" should be read by anyone looking to improve. The story about the sale of his first novel "Carrie" is incredibly inspirational. On Writing: A Memoir of the CraftIf you haven't heard it enough, maybe hearing it from Stephen King will help. You have to read a lot and write a lot to be a great writer.“You don’t need writing classes or seminars any more than you need this or any other book on writing. Faulkner learned his trade while working in the Oxford, Mississippi post office. Other writers have learned the basics while serving in the Navy, working in steel mills or doing time in America’s finer crossbar hotels. I learned the most valuable (and commercial) part of my life’s work while washing motel sheets and restaurant tablecloths at the New Franklin Laundry in Bangor. You learn best by reading a lot and writing a lot, and the most valuable lessons of all are the ones you teach yourself.”Stephen King's Top 20 Rules For WritersClive BarkerBarker has written fantasy novels like "Weaveworld," "Imagica" and "Sacrament" but is probably known best for his horror fiction which led to the series of Hellraiser and Candyman movies.Clive Barker tells us that you have to write even when you're not feeling inspired."Whether you are a good or bad writer is an irrelevancy when you first begin. What's important is that you write, you get up in the morning and you say, 'I'm going to treat this like a job and I'm not going to just do this when I feel like it. I'm going to really get to work on making this the best I can make it, and work hard to achieve something'. You can't sit around waiting for inspiration to strike like lightning, cause you'll wait around for a long time. Maybe once every blue moon a piece of lightning will strike, but most of the time you'll wait around twiddling your thumbs. What you have to do is just get on with it, and write whatever comes out and not worry over much about whether the punctuation is right or the spelling is right or even if the order of the words is right, but just get on with it."The Official Clive Barker WebsiteChuck PalahniukChuck Palahniuk is best known for writing the novel "Fight Club", but has made a reputation for what he calls "transgressional fiction" with other novels like "Choke," "Survivor" and "Invisible Monsters."Sometimes just getting started is the hardest part. Palahniuk has a method to get you started."Two years ago, when I wrote the first of these essays it was about my 'egg timer method' of writing. You never saw that essay, but here’s the method: When you don’t want to write, set an egg timer for one hour (or half hour) and sit down to write until the timer rings. If you still hate writing, you’re free in an hour. But usually, by the time that alarm rings, you’ll be so involved in your work, enjoying it so much, you’ll keep going. Instead of an egg timer, you can put a load of clothes in the washer or dryer and use them to time your work. Alternating the thoughtful task of writing with the mindless work of laundry or dish washing will give you the breaks you need for new ideas and insights to occur. If you don’t know what comes next in the story… clean your toilet. Change the bed sheets. For Christ sakes, dust the computer.
