I have two funny stories, 5 years apart from each other.On my first job, I escalated through a series of positions in no time, had gone to many plants all over the world and had worked on a bunch of successful projects. When I got to the position of Production Manager, something changed in the company. On top of that my 6 month old daughter had a respiratory disease. So everything was in pretty bad shape. One Saturday morning, 6 a.m., as I was driving my mother to the airport, to then drive myself to work, I mentioned to her that I was going to quit next week because I simply couldn’t keep up with that type of pressure. That same night, at around 9 p.m. I left the plant to head home. I had a discussion with the professional bully as he did not realize our problem resided on the fact that we were stopping so much because we didn’t have materials. One hour later I received a call from the HR manager asking me not to go to work om Sunday, and telling me we would meet on Monday. And so on Monday morning he asked me to pick up my stuff, hand over my laptop and gave me a nice fat check worth 6 months of salary, telling me I was fired. He also told me he believed it was a bad idea to fire me, gave me recommendation letters and wished me the best. I took 3 months of vacations before taking another job. The HR manager quit that company a couple of months later.The next job was at a smaller company. I got to a point where I was controlling all the information in the ERP system, I was implementing a new production planning tool and was well regarded by everyone in the company, except for the Production Manager. I really could never figure out why. So when the need arose to cut back costs, he convinced the General Manager to include my name with 20 others to remove. So I got another nice fat check worth 6 months salary. And decided to take some time off. Things back at the plant started going downhill in my absence, and two weeks later the General Manager called me offering my job back. Half a year later he was let go. I stayed, and the Production Manager was my boss. The former General Manager joined another company, called me up and asked me to join him. So I am currently working at the third job in my life, and I’m wondering when will I have another big fat check.
