Mexican water is not “bad”. In many areas of México, we use an entirely different application to water use. The main idea though is that the water coming from the taps, and this usually from the county water supply, is not potable. It’s used for washing dishes, washing fruit and vegetables, the laundry, cleaning, bathing, and in toilets. We buy it in 20 liter bottles called in Spanish garrafones. We put the garrafón up onto a water dispenser in the kitchen to use it. They range in size from around 500 liters to 1100 liters. Many are installed on the roof of the house or on a platform outside the house. But the water is not “bad” for the uses for tap water. After all, do you need to drink the water you wash dishes in or use for the toilets in your home?
