Having known several students in VCU’s Class of 2020, some of whom got several Cs in their classes, I will try to share my insights.Usually VCU does not rescind applicants for failing just one class (as long as you still meet graduation requirements), but it’s hard to say, because every case is different. I would imagine it would be beneficial for you to notify them, instead of them finding out later when your HS transcripts are released to them.I could only find one person on the Internet who failed a math class; they contacted the admissions office and the response was that VCU typically does not rescind accepted students. However, if you do get rescinded, you can always appeal.Depending on whether and how much your other grades dropped, and your intended major (and honors college status), you’re in quite a precarious position, since VCU does have a lot of qualified applicants on the wait list to replace you. It’s also quite competitive; my brother (who ended up going to Stanford…) got rejected outright. I don’t want to sound too pessimistic, but you’ve dug yourself quite a hole - failing a class is indeed a serious matter. Some of my classmates were concerned about their C’s, and their guidance counselor told them that they’ve known students to have been rescinded in the past; they’d better start studying hard.But what can you do?Well, first, your medical reason isn’t going to carry much weight unless you have documentation that you were severely impaired for the rest of the year. Your details imply that the concussion affected your second quarter grades, but VCU is really interested in what you did afterwards. If you failed both third and fourth quarter AP Physics, that’s not going to look good.In any case, try speaking with your physics teacher. Ask him/her to write you a letter explaining what happened, showing what you did to rectify the situation and putting you in a positive light. Then send the letter along with your notification to VCU. If your teacher refuses to write you such a letter, that is a big red flag.Speak with your guidance counselor. This is probably the first thing you should do. Ask him/her for advice; we Quorans don’t know everything :) Ask him/her to contact the admissions office asking about your prospects. Ask your counselor about options if VCU unfortunately does decide to rescind you.Finally, get it together. You’ll need to get through college and not end up part of the 40% who do not graduate on time or at all. Failing one quarter is fine; failing three is not. You’re going to realize that college (especially a competitive one like VCU) moves much faster than high school. Nobody is going to force you to study. Don’t waste this opportunity; college costs a lot of money and time and it would be a shame if you had nothing to show for your efforts in high school.

The degree will show that it’s from VCU (main campus in Richmond) but your transcript will show that the classes were taken in Qatar.
