Which psychological school of thought works best in the treatment of personality disorders like DID and bipolar disorder – Jung or Freud?

This question is full of wrong assumptions which makes it very difficult to answer properly.Assumption 1—That there is a single psychological school of thought that works best for the treatment of personality disorders. There is no one agreed upon school of thought that is good for all personality disorders. There are actually many valid approaches to thinking about the diagnose and treatment of personality disorders. Most are designed for a specific personality disorder. Here are a few:Object Relations based approaches such as Otto Kernberg’s or James F. Masterson’s. This appears to be applicable with some adjustments for all three of the major categories of personality disorders, which are Narcissistic, Borderline, snd Schizoid Personality Disorders.Heinz Kohut’s and Self-Psychology’s approach to Narcissistic Personality Disorders.Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for Borderline Personality Disorder.Assumption 2—That DID and Bipolar Disorder are personality disorders.DID is short for Dissociative Identity Disorder which used to be called Multiple Personality Disorder. It falls somewhere in between a personality disorder and a psychosis, depending on how severe it is. It is believed to be a response to abuse.Bipolar Disorder is not a personality disorder. It is a psychotic disorder that is believed to have a biological basis.Assumption 3—That Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung developed specific treatments for personality disorders or that their work led to useful treatments.Sigmund Freud (1856–1939)did not believe that what we call Narcissistic Personality Disorder today was treatable by his methods because Narcissists do not form transferences that were analyzable by his methods. It was left to Heinz Kohut (1913–1991) to identify and name the narcissistic transference and how to work with them in the early 1970’s, many years after Freud’s death.Carl Jung (1875–1961) is known for many things—introducing theories about the collective unconscious, archetypes, synchronicity, the disowned shadow side, anima and animus—but inventing a treatment for personality disorders is not one of them.Punchline: Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung were brilliant theoreticians, but our modern theories about personality disorders only owe the most general sort of debt to their work. Otto Kernberg (1928-Present) did his best to incorporate Freud’s Drive theory into his Object Relation’s approach. However, even a modern master psychoanalyst like Kernberg had difficulty getting other theoreticians to accept that Freud’s drive theory relates to personality disorders.A2AElinor Greenberg, PhD, CGPIn private practice and the author of the book: Borderline, Narcissistic, and Schizoid Adaptations.www.elinorgreenberg.com

What are the chances of getting rejected from Works Applications after the training period?

I am a member of the very first batch that Works Applications recruited from India, and one of the first members of the Singapore division. The 50% figure is hugely exaggerated and mostly a rumour, nothing else. I haven't witnessed anything of the sort. The training is intense , i won't deny that, but as others have mentioned if you perform well you have nothing to worry about. The reason some people might find it difficult is because the trainees are expected to showcase their thought process , not only coding skills and that may be something you may not have experienced till now.Anyway, to answer your question no they do not fire 50% trainees. You shouldn't worry too much about that kind of thing. Apply yourself to the training work, and you'll be fine.

I want to get placed into Thought Works company. How should I prepare? On which technology should I focus on?

If you are a grad, you need to be very strong in Programming, Data Structures, Algorithms, Databases. You still need to know enough basics in Networking & Operating Systems as well. You should know your projects well. You should be able to apply concepts you've learned in college on real world applications and scenarios. And you need to be a good person with social sense (although it depends on each interview whether they like your views or not) but basically you need to be a socially aware person.
