I have completed all three programs mulitple times.All three programs have a variety of workouts on offer. All three are designed for muscle building and weight loss; however, each program has some strengths and weaknesses:Pound for pound P90X is the best overall program for muscle building and weight loss. This program is sufficiently difficult to challenge someone who is already in shape but is also doable for someone looking to get in shape; the trainer provides you with modifications to virtually every exercise if needed. Tony Horton’s humor starts to wear a little thin the 30th time you go through a workout video though. So I just print the workout sheets off and go from these. The yoga workout is absolute hell in this program. With that said, Tony is class act and you cannot blame him for the fact you’re watching the same videos over and over. My wife laughs at me because I know what he says line by line by line in each video.P90X2 was designed around the concept of building athleticism as opposed to just working towards weight loss; its workouts are much more technically demanding than those presented in P90X. For example, instead of doing push ups from bars or the floor you complete pushes from various positions using medicine balls. The pull ups are also more technically challenging; and there is a ton of core exercises that places a lot of demand on one’s back. For this reason Tony recommends you take two rest days in a 7 day training block. The final training block in p90X2 with the focus on eccentric lower and upper workouts is easily the toughest block out of all three programs. I definitly impoved my core strength using this program.P90X3 was designed more or less as workout program for people who want to work hard but do not have the time to spend an hour plus every day. Workouts are 30 mins in length. If you want results though, you have to increase intensity. The MMX fighting workout is very challenging physically speaking; and the Challenge is uber tough (it is similar to a ‘merc’ workout where you complete as many push ups and pull ups in 30 mins as possible).SummaryP90X is the best program for looking fitter. P90X2 is the best for building athleticism and core strength. The yoga workout for this program is doable and challenging. P90X3 is good for the time strapped person. I would complete them in order; they seem to complement one another.
