This question! Anyway let me try to address it my level best.Firstly, The Right and their obsession with Obama. Some people cannot wake up to the reality that a black guy got elected president. Not once but twice. They are still moving around trying to connect him with people like Saddam Hussein using only his name which by the way he got from his father. He's Barack Hussein Obama Jr the first born son of Barack Hussein Obama Sr same way George HW Bush Jr is the first born son of George HW Bush Sr. What's in a name? Does a christian name rank higher than a non christian name? For the record, I come from Africa and there's a rebel leader called Joseph Kony. Joseph Kony shares a name with Joseph the father of Jesus or another good guy from the Old Testament who saved Israelites from starvation. But Joseph Kony is the worst guy that’s still alive in the African continent. He started by serving as an altar boy before he moved on to start a militia that resides in Uganda's western border with DR Congo. His militia rapes women like it is their only favorite hobby. What's in a name? I ask again.Secondly, because it is the way society is. When you hold a job that rarely has more people, you get that title when you're quoted somewhere. Think of this, for 200+ years, only 45 people have been President of USA. There are few that are alive. With a trend of presidents all over the world called by their first and last names, this gives us a reason to say President Jimmy Carter, President Bill Clinton, President Donald Tump, President Barack Obama, President Emmanuel Macron, President Vladimir Putin etc. This happens even to businessmen (Richard Branson), authors (William Shakespeare, Bram Stoker), scientists (Isaac Newton, Stephen Hawking, Marie Currie), sportspersons (Serena Williams, Anthony Joshua, Muhammad Ali), actors/actresses (Morgan Freeman, Angelina Jolie, Joseph Morgan, Nicholas Cage, Tyra Banks) etc. I think this is to do with the naming system in schools. After garnering friends from primary to high school and to college, you don't want to throw that under the bus as you move to politics where even one vote can save you. Say Lisa Roberts and every alumni of Yale will recall the valedictorian of the class of 2002. Call her Lisa Joelle Roberts and her close pal will wonder who the hell is this Joelle person. But if you said, Lisa Roberts Osaka, somebody can figure out that Lisa Roberts got married to Mr Osaka and they can easily recognize her.There're points where ambiguity comes in like President George Bush. It becomes necessary to add an initial to differentiate the two or simply say senior and junior. Another ambiguity arose when Hillary Clinton ran for presidency. That’s why the media could refer to her as Secretary Clinton but for her competitor, he was simply Mr. Trump. No I am not diminishing him. Remember when he got famous in The Apprentice and The Battle Of Billionaires, he was known as Mr Trump.If you moved across the continent and said The Queen only a select few people come to your mind. Forcing you to insert Elizabeth I, II etc. If you said the prince or princess you confuse more people. Cause there're more people who are in that group. So you go ahead and say Prince William, Prince Harry etc. It's no use saying more names to let people know who you're referring to. As soon as you get to your best naming that can easily identify, you stop there. For the record, few people know that Obama's names come from his father Barack Hussein Obama Sr. But since he is the one who brought fame to that name, there is no use of adding Jr to his name and after all, Sr died a long time ago.There's somewhere people wonder why he is not called Barry. I got reasons from real life. My full name is Lucas Nyachogo Matoke. At home, I am called Luca but when I was in college, I was called Luke by my course mates. It was a good name and I loved it. However, it never worked as very close friends kept on calling me Luca. This made me go for Luca and drop others. Believe me, everybody faces this challenge. Name shortening can work for some like Bill Clinton or fail as an example Barry Obama.But for official purposes like the ballot, educational certificates/transcripts and signing of bills, the president's name must be full and like the one in the national ID card. In most of these official cases, the naming starts with the surname. I hope you're satisfied and will learn to say President Obama and not Mr Obama.
