I don’t believe the Bay had a specific Native American name.Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo was the first European to discover San Diego in 1542 - about 200 years before the Europeans actually started to settle there.Prior to Cabrillo’s discovery, the original inhabitants of the region were known as the San Dieguito People and La Jolla People, as well as the Kumeyaay People (Native Americans).The San Diego bay and the area of present-day San Diego were given their current name about 60 years after Cabrillo’s discovery, by Sebastian Vizcaino - a wealthy merchant.

If you go by school district, San Dieguito is close to Carlsbad and is considered one of the better districts in North County. I don't have children, but I am partial to both Encinitas and Carlsbad in terms of quality of life, proximity to the ocean, and other positive attribute.I also have friends who live and send their kids to school in Carmel Valley, near Del Mar, though that would be a longer drive for you.

When I was a senior in high school in San Diego in 2007, there was a very popular girl two years younger than me who, at least as I recall, was known by the entire student body as “the hot girl”. She was the daughter of the school’s art teacher, and the epitome of the stereotypical popular girl, known almost entirely by her rather developed physical assets at age ~16. I’m sure there must have been many male teachers who felt awkward with her attending their classes looking the way she did.The only reason I got to know her at all was because we shared a lot of common friends, as I was well-known around school for very different reasons (I was selling drugs out of the van I lived in and getting kicked out of school for going barefoot every day, but that’s another story). She and I were even chosen to co-host some meaningless school assembly at some point due to our mutual notoriety among the student body, though I don’t think we had many meaningful interactions beyond that.In the years immediately following high school, I rapidly lost touch with most of the people I knew from those years as I went on my own path of world exploration and personal growth, but from time to time I would still see something about “the hot girl” show up in my social media timeline, as we still had some mutual friends. It seemed that she was getting into modeling, and I would start to see professional photos of her in bikinis and lingerie come up from time to time, shared by the people we both knew. I guess I wasn’t surprised. She had the body for it and it her looks were the only attribute I could recall about her at this point.Then one day, I don’t recall exactly when, I realized I was seeing pictures of her show up in my Facebook newsfeed, but not from any mutual friends we still shared. Her name and modeling photos were being posted by popular entertainment magazines and websites like Sports Illustrated (despite the fact that I had no interest in following professional modeling).And suddenly, she was in a supporting role in a major movie as Ben Affleck’s mistress, who must have been about 25 years her senior, and showing off her extra large tits in controversial music videos with some musician I didn’t care about named Robin Thicke. She was only in the movie for a few short scenes, but she was pretty much exactly as I remembered her. “The hot girl” from my high school was Emily Ratajkowski, now “the hot girl” for the whole world.Recently, my present girlfriend from Eastern Europe even sent me a photo of Emily as an example of what she considered beautiful women with bodies she was trying to emulate, not knowing that I had gone to high school with her. I just laughed at the oddness of the situation. Everywhere I go, I cannot escape seeing naked pictures of the most popular girl from my high school.It’s kind of an odd feeling if I’m honest, to have memories of the teenage popular chick version of her from a time in my life when I was practically unrecognizable to the person I am now. Contrarily, I have witnessed her grow into what is (so far as I can tell) just a hyperbolic version of what she was back then, now with skeezy horndog men around the world going gaga, writing lewd public comments about what they want to do to her, and probably furiously masturbating to her pictures.I think it just shows that while some people change incredibly after high school, others only double- or triple-down on what they already were, so long as they receive ample social reinforcement for the role they are playing in society. I doubt she’s complaining about the lifestyle she has though.—-Edit: There were several other famous people who apparently attended my high school too (like Tony Hawk and Eddie Veder), but I did not personally know any of them.
