Why does the US embassy look for a travel history of an applicant in Nigeria to decide whether it can be granted visa?Travel history is like your Resume. A resume shows your educational attainments,places you've worked in the past as well as your years of experience. When you claim that you need a non-immigrant visa to the US you must as well have a way to convince the consular officer that you are going to return. I received the visa to Reunion Island then i discovered this is not even enough to convince the consular officer when I'll be applying for the schengen visa so i packed my bag and boarded air austra to Reunion and return the following day and 3 weeks later i applied for the schengen visa. Immediately i got to the interview point she asked for my passport and i handed it over to her and the next thing she said was “ Mr Franklin how was your visit to La reunion ?“ i replied with a smile and answered it was too short because i had to return to attend to an emmergency even though i never wanted to spend that extra cash to Reunion Island but it paid off later as that was the only question she asked and normally it was supposed to take 2 weeks to get the visa but the following day i was called to come and pick my schengen visa. What am i trying to say? sometimes they want to know if you are not the type that will escape and run away after receiving a visitors visa to their country. So your travel history of arrival and departure tells a bit of your travel reputattions and it can help you convince the officer that you will leave after the time permitted on your visa is due and may as well boost your visa chances. Depends on the country you’re talking about. Some countries share information with each other some don’t. So by entering your passport number, some countries will get your travel history.For the visas which require visa interviews (for example USA) it doesn’t matter if they have your history or not because when you visit the consulate to get a visa, you hand over your passport to the visa officer. The visa officer can take a quick look at your travel history by going through your passport.For Schengen visas, even if you submit your documents to the VFS, you submit your passport which has all the travel history, so again they can check your travel history.Countries like Australia are pretty straightforward, they ask you submit copies of all the pages of your passport, even the blank pages.So yes, by default all the visa officers know your travel history.
