Ryan was great for most of three decades, but only has one championship to show for it.Think about this; there are not just one, but two quarterbacks since Brady entered the league, who have somewhat mirrored what Brady did early in his career, by winning multiple Super Bowls within their first five or six years in the league — Ben Roethlisberger and Eli Manning.Like Brady, Big Ben won two Super Bowls within his first five years in the league, back in 2005, when it looked like the Steelers would be alternating with the Patriots in Super Bowl appearances for the next ten or fifteen years.Then, Ben and the Steelers lost in Roethlisberger’s third go-round, when Aaron Rodgers won his only Super Bowl, and Big Ben and the Steelers have been good, but not great, ever since. Roethlisberger has had a good career, but not particularly out of the ordinary, compared to Brees, Peyton, Eli, Rodgers, and Brady.But, make no mistake — Roethlisberger will be in the Hall of Fame at some point between 2026 and 2031, or so. Because he won two Super Bowls, in three appearances.Eli’s got a similar story. Eli led the Giants to a Super Bowl win against Brady’s Patriots in Eli’s fourth year in the league, and then again, three years later.After that? The Big Apple became Hum-Drum City, for Eli. The Giants regularly made the playoffs for the next couple of years, but never sniffed the Super Bowl again within Eli’s tenure, and from 2013 through 2019, when Manning retired, the Giants had exactly one winning season, leaving Eli at a .500 winning percentage upon his retirement.Yet, Eli, like Roethlisberger (and Brady,) will be putting on his gold jacket one day, probably in 2024 or 2025, again, on the basis of those two Super Bowl wins.So, Brady? With three Super Bowl wins between 2001 and 2005? He could have played on cruise control for the next six or eight seasons, rode off with Giselle into the sunset five or six years ago, and he’d already be in the Hall of Fame.Instead, he decided to rewrite the record books, and establish a level of excellence not seen since Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls ruled the NBA.
