PDF Editor FAQ

What is the fastest way to get checks for my USAA Federal Savings Bank checking account if I am not near any branch?

To Courtenay Hoffman,The fastest way to get USAA checks is to call USAA directly at (800) 531–8722 or go online at http://usaa.com and sign in.PRO TIP: It is probably more efficient to do this online instead of by phone, but the checks will still take the same amount of time to print no matter how you order them.Once you are online, click “My Tools.”.You will then see a screen like the one below. Select “Reorder Checks.”This will direct you onto a trusted printing company’s website (Harland Clarke), where you can order either FREE standard checks in blue or tan with the USAA logo, or personalized designs (at an extra charge). Make sure you have the right account, and that your name and address are correct. Speedy delivery will cost you extra (up to $41 for one to two days). Also make sure you specify the correct delivery address if it is different from the address printed on your check.WARNING: Checks from USAA no longer come in a box; this is for security purposes so they fly under the radar. Checks now come in a large flat envelope, and you might think it’s junk mail, as I did once..Trust me, you are not alone in being physically distant from a USAA branch. Most of the almost 13 million USAA members are not near a branch. USAA has only one full-service bank, and a handful (maybe four or five) of limited-service banks near large military installations and the Pentagon.USAA’s customer service is second to none, and you can easily and efficiently order checks online or by telephone. I have done this myself.—Sarah M., posted 20 July 2019, USAA member (as the former dependent of a Navy officer)QUESTION: What is the fastest way to get checks for my USAA Federal Savings Bank checking account if I am not near any branch?

Why is USAA moving towards online banking?

The question is somewhat confusing. I’ve been doing online banking with USAA since the 90s.USAA has always been limited to the amount of physical banks and ATMs that it has for as long as I remember (which is a pretty long time). The only place I think I’ve ever seen a USAA ATM is in San Antonio, and I’ve only been there twice in my life. I do believe I saw one once somewhere else, but can’t remember where it was.1) Physical buildings are expensive. If you can avoid them, you should. Not only the real estate but the staffing of small remote locations, including manager overhead and security is quite expensive.2) Paper checks are mostly unnecessary. You can send a check to anyone from anywhere using online banking. USAA will either print it and send it via US mail, which is mostly reliable but not 100%, and there’s a variable delay, or it will do it by direct wire transfer if a relationship exists with the receiving institution. USAA has a lot of relationships with mortgage companies, other banks, major communications providers, etc. already established. 1000s.So yeah, I’ve been using online banking with USAA for decades. Very, very rarely do I write a check. I think the only time I do anymore is for the guy who delivers firewood. Sometimes other local services want a check for immediate services delivered too, like home inspectors. So, when you say ‘moving to’, I think they are already there. I don’t think they’ll be eliminating paper checks anytime really soon, though.

Why do banks have online deposit limits?

Before you can appreciate the answer, you should understand the process and its limitations.Remote Deposit Capture (RDC) is an automated process with rarely any human intervention once you have "deposited" the check. With the vast majority of banks, once you complete your RDC, the check image is not seen or handled by a human ever again unless it either bounces or the drawer views the paid item in their monthly statement. Even in those few financial institutions that add a human element, it is limited to viewing the check to ascertain if it has been properly endorsed. It's important, also, to consider that although the original check has various printed security features, none of these are apparent, much less verifiable, on the photocopy of the check that you deposit. For all your bank or even the drawer's financial institution knows, you could have deposited a piece of toilet paper printed on your computer and hand signed by a monkey.Once that instrument hits the drawer's bank, it could sit unnnoticed by the drawer until they presumably balance their checking account hopefully every month. There could be some who don't balance their account that particular month. If the drawer is a company, they may not reconcile their accounts for 90 days. That "piece of toilet paper" could sit in the drawer's account for over 90 days before any fraud is detected and the check bounces. Under Check 21 and Regulation CC, it could be a while before that check bounces. Without checking, my recollection is that the drawer or their bank have up to 120 days to bounce the check. By that time you could have disappeared with the money.RDC fraud is extremely easy. If I have your name, account number and know the name of your bank, I can use RDC to drain your account without getting caught. That is precisely why US banking regulators have cautioned banks to exercise a high degree of vigilance with RDC.So what steps do banks take to lower the risks involved with RDC? Most all banks impose daily and / or monthly deposit limits. Some banks only allow established customers to use RDC. Other banks might impose longer hold times before funds are available. Yet others may require customers authorized for use of RDC to be credit qualified. My bank, USAA, uses a combination of tools. For established, credit-qualified customers, the RDC limit is set at $100,000 per day, per account and all funds are available immediately. For all others, the limit is something like $10,000 per day across all accounts and funds are made available within 14 calendar days.

CocoDoc has made workflow of documents for myself and my clients much easier. Before using CocoDoc, I would have clients download and print documents then re-upload again to email to me. This software has taken out all those extra steps out of the equation, therefore making the workflow on both ends a much smoother process. I also get to track the progress, and view activity on the documents which are all great features.
